This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage, Free Time, Apartment Life
Default Need step by step help please
Years ago I did tons of downloading for the game and stopped playing for a long time. Now i just reinstalled all the games. I have all eps and sps and i also used the game patches as well. I totally forget how to download and extract CC into the game. I have windows 7. Can anyone give me a link to free WinZIP and tell me step by step how to download and then extract into the game. once i get the hang of it again i will be fine. Thank You!

I'd use 7zip myself but you can find either easily enough just by Googling them. Once you've downloaded and installed the arhive programme of your choice, you can get it to open an archive file by right-clicking on the file and choosing Open With - or, if you set up the programme as the default for zip/rar/whatever files, all you need to do is double-click the file.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

Does 7 zip work like WinZIP and winrar? also if it says open with (what do i select open with what?) Does the program come as default already where i can just double click the file and it goes right into the game?

7zip will extract both zip and rar files with no problem.

You don't really need WinZIP but you will need either 7zip or rar for most downloads will be done with rar and newer downloads will be 7zip.

7zip is free but you will need to know what your CPU is either 32 or 64 bt and you need to download the one that matches your CPU. http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

My system is 64 bit so i clicked on the link to download 7 zip and it shows a bunch of different ones to choose from. is this one the right one for mine. .msi 64-bit x64 7-Zip for 64-bit Windows x64 (Intel 64 or AMD64) also when i go to download 7 zip a message is coming up saying chrome blocked it because it could harm my browsing experience. i dont want to download something that will give me toolbars or viruses so what does that mean, should i just dismiss it and download it from the link u gave me?

I use WinRar. I download files to my desktop, make a folder for the download and place the rar file inside the folder. Then I right click and do extract here. Sometimes there is already a file inside of the rar but sometimes not. Doing this inside a folder stops files going across my desktop. I also where possible drag a picture inside the folder. I then store the rar files in a folder outside my game. The new named folder goes to my testing folder and from there to it's proper folder. So if it's a hair it goes to my hair folder, windows go to my building folder and so on. Keep things organized and don't just drop bunches of files into your download folder to be mixed up.

Look at the date of the download and it should be "Download 7-Zip 9.38 beta (2015-01-03) for Windows:" if it says anything else at the top then you are looking at a old version.

This is the link for the most up to date one: http://www.7-zip.org/download.html

The download should say this: 7z938-x64.msi and I just went and tried it and it download just fine for me.

I use PeaZip. I'm on Windows 7 (64 bit) and it works fine. My browser is Firefox, and it gave me no trouble when I downloaded PeaZip. The one drawback to PeaZip is that sometimes it chokes if you try to unzip more than four files at a time. For ordinary downloading, this is no problem. For those times when you've binged, it's an annoyance, nothing more. Hope that helps!

It doesn't really matter what program you use to unzip files so long as it unzips rar files. But no I download to my desktop so the rar files show up there. I find that easy to find. Then I right click and make a new folder, drag a rar into that folder, right click and open it inside that folder. Sometimes rar files might come with 20 recolours and I might not want them all.

Does any one else have this problem for I can download it using internet explorer, Chrome or firefox with no problems, no popups no nothing. It downloads as it should and scan with Avast shows nothing.

How you choose to sort and do is up to you. if you are going on a downloading spree you will want to store those Rar's someplace, for me desktop is an easy place. I make a folder because inside that rar there could be 20 or more loose files. i learned by experience that unzipping directly on my desktop could be a bad idea! You might prefer somewhere else. The main things are to try and keep the downloads inside your Download folder organized by a method that makes sense to you and know just where your new cc is going. I put mine in a 'New things" folder. Then if I decide I don't like it I can remove it easily.

All you need to do is unzip and place the files into your Download folder, but I would not recommend just unzipping and having a bunch of files all mixed in together. Making folders inside your Download folder and naming them things perhaps by item type, or creator or site are what you need to keep things organized. Use a method that is easy for you. Make sure you spell Downloads with a capital D or things won't show. Also when downloading check in case it needs a mesh as sometimes that is separate. if you are getting recolours of Maxis objects make sure to get CEP. If you plan to install lots or sims grab Clean Installer.
Keep all mods in a separate folder and make sure you have all the critical fixes- that is mods that will prevent your hood or game from exploding.

An example from my Downloads folder would be Downloads> Clothes_AF > AthleticPantsSneakers_T_A_EF
The T_A_EF stands for teen, adult and elder female. I might move them seeing they go across 3 ages.

PeaZip is free. I can open .zip, .rar, and .7z files -- haven't tried anything else, although I think it has a longer list of files it can open. Here is a link to the 64 Bit: http://peazip.sourceforge.net/peazip-64bit.html

If you get a message about it being blocked, can you please type in the exact text of the error message, word for word, here? That might help us figure out what it doesn't like.

WinRAR isn't expireware. If you use it past the trial period, it'll remind you that you really ought to pay for it, but it will still work.

Incidentally OP, you see that little underlined link that appears whenever someone types WinRAR - if you click on it, it takes you to an advice page that tells you exactly how to download and extract your files.

I no longer come over to MTS very often but if you would like to ask me a question then you can find me on tumblr or my own site tflc. TFLC has an archive of all my CC downloads.

I ended up downloading WinRAR instead and tried to follow the instructions but im still confused

I have sims 2 Downloads folder on desktop

When i click on an item i want to download, it downloads in left corner of my screen then i clicked open and extract to sims 2 downloads folder. when i go into the sims 2 download folder the item is there but the icon next to it is a little white paper so didnt think that was right because i seem to remember next to the listed item it should have the rar icon i think. I went in game to check and see and sure enough no CC which btw, where do i click to Enable CC?

If someone can PLEASE walk me through in steps ( i need it simple) i would appreciate it. I know im close to having this right but im doing something wrong.
