Default Sims 2 Compatability w/ Windows 10?
On the eve of Windows 10's release, I'm still deciding whether to install it or not. I want to make sure the Sims 2 (and life series as well) works with Windows 10, because I don't want to lose all the progress I've been making with my games and custom hood. So for any of those who beta tested W10, does the Sims 2 work on that version of Windows?

I think there's a thread somewhere.

@marka93 will be able to say something or give the link to that thread.

My advice to you is to hold off on installing Windows 10. There are no doubt plenty of unreported security leaks and potential backdoors. All the stupid new features make it more susceptible to hijacking as well. Wait out the installation until Microsoft releases a service pack or collection of updates to plug all the holes that hackers will be able to exploit.

I will be installing it experimentally on a secondary computer to do some tests to see what holes I can find and what I have to plug myself. I sure as hell wasn't pleased with the beta. Too many useless features that create risks.

All that aside, I'm fairly sure Sims 2 will run on it. If not, try using compatibility mode. Chances are that if it runs on Windows 8.1 (Which I assume you are using unlike me), it will run on Windows 10 as well.

The Sims 4! Weirder Sims! Aren't they weird!? Look how weird they are! Bet you can't wait to see how weird their stories are!?

Beta testing of Windows have shown to be able to play both Sim 1 and Sims 2 with no problem but just remember that changes have been made since beta started and I have not been able to update my beta for well over 6 months.

I will be updating my Windows 8 machine to 10 asap and will let you all know how it is.

Update: I have a very large hidden download coming on my Windows 8 machine (I think it is 10) so sometime tomorrow or the next day I will be able to install it.

If you don't get the option then you may need to hunt it down and do it manually, that's how I had to do it.

I'm out of town right now, but my mom's computer is scheduled to update so she can get her start menu back. I'll be using it to test all my favorite games (TS2 UC, TS1 Deluxe, Civ II Test of Time, SC4, Minecraft). I will let you know the TS2 results when I can.

My husband has been downloading it on a new machine that he's refurbing for me..and I will be watching this thread to see if there's any hinky stuff I should know about it before I go to the part when I have to reinstall/copy files on to it to get the game running again.

Up until now, I've been running XP only and it's gonna be a huge change when I go to Win 10, and 64bit instead of 32...I hope it's worth the trouble he's gone to do it. Fingers crossed!

Does anyone know if we keep our files? My game is too big for my USB.

@marka93 my friend forced it with Windows Update because the notifications don't come through, apparently.

I've successfully installed Windows 10 this morning. From my first testing, the game doesn't work.

Running the game straight after Windows 10 installed (you get to keep all files and programs, if you install through the desktop notification in Windows 7 (and Windows 8(.1) presumably)), nothing shows up on my desktop. If I go to task manager, I can see the program allocating around 25 MB of memory, and then just being there, doing nothing until it's killed.

After I tried troubleshooting compatibility (by selecting Windows 7 and Windows XP SP3 later on - both unsuccessful), the only change is that this time, the application allocates around 40 MB before starting to hang and do nothing.

By reporting this to Microsoft (I'm silly, I know) - the only thing they did is mark the application as incompatible. Clap clap.

(I guess I was being a bit too excited when it comes to installing Windows 10.)

EDIT: I'm guessing people who have bought the digital or store versions of expansion and stuff packs can try following this guide. It's about getting TS2 to work on Windows 8, and could work for Windows 10 users also.

However, I don't know what's up with TS2 Ultimate Collection users. I haven't opened my Origin yet (and I'm scared that if I delete TS2 and try to reinstall it, it will say it's an incompatible system).

EDIT: the real reason why the game wouldn't work on Windows 10 for me is because of my (outdated) graphics card driver. Looks like the game works just fine on Intel's cards, while it doesn't start up at all with ATI or NVIDIA's cards. The thing is, there's still no new drivers out there.

Well-thanks for the information about Win 10, but I've found that the install did not take in the computer that it's supposed to be in, so we're going to have to buy a copy of Win 7 to get anything to work.

People, when you do computer software, please do not press the "free" button that you see on the internet. It's not good for the computer, I guarantee you. It unleashes viruses, trojans and all kinds of unfun things.

There is no free lunch, especially on that! (just frustration with stupid people coming out..nobody in the thread or the site..)

Someone on the official site said it works for them, though they don't specify whether it's the ultimate collection or disks.

To get them to work I have read you need to do a clean install of 10 not just an upgrade, then install Sims 1 and Sims 2. Will attempt clean install when I get told I can install 10.

@ DJ. Why am I "not surprise" that Window 10 may not work with Sims 2, no one should be surprise. I said a good while back that I would not upgrade to Window 10 for that reason.
Older games like the Sims or any other older games dating as far back as the early 2000 will not see the "light of day" on this new Window 10 OS.

I said right here on this post my comments # 46 & 47 >http://modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=556484 that I was going to sat back and watch "all" the drama to come with this Window 10.
All I have to do now is pull up a chair with a bag of popcorn and cola and watch this free show here. Feel free to join me.

Note: If any members have some bags of tricks to make it work share it for those who want Window 10, so they can save their "tears" lol

I will never understand why any gamers would be in a rush to upgrade to a new OS. Happens every time and for the life of me I don't know why.
Granted, some folks need to upgrade for other reasons, but I've been computer gaming for 30 years and there is always this rush among people who I happen to know are primarily gamers to upgrade to a new OS. Makes zero sense to me.
I only upgraded to Win7 from XP late last year and have every intention of staying with Win7 until it is no longer supported - which I understand will be in 2020, five years from now. Yay!

I'm only upgrading because my machine is getting old, tired and it's about had the end of it's natural life. It was a rebuild to start with, and upgraded with a better video card and memory..but there's no room in it for any more of either..so it's a new machine. The one I bought was cheap but it's a newer machine-although the previous owner didn't exactly do everything the way good computer owners should...and that's why I have to buy a new copy of Win7, because he decided that he was smarter than everyone else, including MS.

My poor husband had a long and arduous fight with it and MS's download of Win10-and in the end, it was a draw. He decided Win7 was the way to go, and that Win10 was a step too far-as far as licensing went. MS couldn't recognize the license, so the download went bad..and he just wasted 8 hours of his time doing it.
