Coudln't find this covered anywhere, maybe it's not a common problem. for months now I have had serious trouble with everthign breaking on the Goth house lot.

I know that using the InSiminator and SimPE various things can be adjusted. Relationship decay rate, hunger, etc. But does anyone know of a way to stop or reduce the amount of decay on a lot? Do I need to move everyone off the Goth lot and hope that the next family doesn't overflow the toilets every single time?

Hi Scruff. Please keep in mind their is a chaos generator that makes things randomly happen, including fires and plumbing problems. Also keep in mind that the goth's have been around a while. Look at it like this, a whole adult life time is 29 days. (then they turn to elders), so what 1 day = 1 year or somewhere there abouts. how many years does a toilet or sink go before a washer or some minor piece of plumbing needs replaced in real life? So it's going to happen. Pescado has a less plumbing breaks hack or something like that.

I have the same problem however, mine started AFTER I installed nightlife.

Let me be specific. I removed my EA Games folder in My Documents and then let the game rebuild the folders to start from scratch because I tend to download tons of stuff and I want a CLEAN install. I cleaned out the main install folder on C: and put it back to its original condition. Then I played the game without Nightlife to make sure it ran fine. Once I verified it was okay, I installed Nightlife. I played the game for a couple of hours clean without any mods. I noticed that only on the Goth house the toilets (all kinds) clogged after every use, the tubs (with or without the shower component) broke after every use, the dishwashers (cheap or expensive) needed repairing if a dish was added and the trash compactors had the same problem. I also noticed that the computers crashed if a sim played with one and needed repairing before anyone could play with it again. During this "virgin" play I used the testingCheatsEnabled by typing it manually, and found the "sim modifier," neither of these had any effect on the problems with the plumbing and the appliances in the Goth home. Removing the appliances and plumbing fixtures and replacing did not help either and neither did CTL - clicking on the item to force an error or to set it back to its "ultra clean" or "set maintenance" (not sure that actually works anyway). Suffice to say nothing worked.

This was too often to be a case of the "random chaos generator."

I played the Caliente home and it did not have any of these problems.

At first I didn't think anything about the problem and I installed the following Mods: Insiminator (UV) 2.1 Sim Ed, Christianlov's All-in-1, Call anyone NL, The Censor patch (Quaxi), WIntermuteai1's collectionz redone, TwoJeff's Triplets&Quads and TwoJeff's Casual Romance. And I used a neighborhood and live camera alteration. They made no dofference either, that I could see, unless something made it even more frequent but all the appliances and plumbing were breaking at such a frequency that I didn't notice any change.

I am going remove the EA games folder again and rebuild the files and start over and see what happens this time.

Well, without the stuff I added (Maxis supplied generic - not recolored or modified) plumbing and appliances - I can't say whether or not anything was going on because at first, I was not paying real close attention. But, I always add the DW and TC to a home asap - makes life easier, so to say.

I have started over but have not played the lot enough to say anything yet. But I have noticed if you have a sloppy sim, or a bunch of sloppy sims living in the same house, things tend to break down because they don't clean up as often or flush or so on. So, off to try it again!

OK, I loaded up the Goth's. Put their plumbing through major testing. Toilets repeatedly used and flushed, showers, baths, glasses of water from every sink in the house. Showers and baths, more drinks, more toilet use and flushing. At least 15 uses of each plumbing item and NO failures. There were no computers, no trash compactors and no dish washers in the default maxis edition Goth house, so I did not test any of that added stuff.

This has just started happening to me in a brand new neighborhood with 2 occupied lots (one is occpied by 2 former NPC's).

Every breakable object breaks every time it is used by any sim, including visitors. The family are all fully skilled or nearly so, all have mid-range tidy points. They break brand new replacements objects as well. I even saw the top of the range hot tub broken for the first time ever.

I have both EP's and Merola's Multi Painting and a select few of Fishman's NL-friendly hacks BTW. Anyone with ideas?

Too many breaks of usable objects are usually an indicator for the existence of the "Break Inducer". This is an invisible object that can be spawned through the testingcheatsenabled cheat. When it is spawned, nearly every object that can break *will* break on use. Solution: Bulldoze the house. No other way (as I had to learn after trying this break inducer). If the break inducer can be removed via SimPE or any other tool, is beyond my knowledge.

Hope this helps a bit

I believe that you can spawn the break suppressor, which does the opposite to the break Inducer.

Ah thanks guys. I had been messing with testingcheats on that lot because I was trying to find a way to fix the invisible friend who comes home from school with a teen who drives. I remember I did click the break inducer, more by clumsiness than anything else. :o

I bulldozed the house anyway, which was a shame because it was on a sloping lot and bulldozing annoyingly flattens the terrain.

I got rid of all of the DMA worker sims that the Goths had hired. Locked all of the bathroom doors with the Simlogical doors, and used a Merola painting to adjust needs for a few sim days. After that I unlocked the doors again, and so far, haven't had overflowing toilets after every use.
