I've been wondering... is effect creation within our reach? If not, then when? If it is, how? (By effects I mean the chimney smoke, the bubble blowers bubbles, fire, neighborhood waterfalls, bubbles in the bubble bath, water spurting out from fountains, from broken sinks, from broken showers, etc.) |

@ jms, i think cutedoggypal means like creating new effects that the game doesn't already have. or maybe even adding those effects to other objects that normally wouldn't have them. something like that... |

All I ever say, all I ever do - it's just a message to you.
All I ever play, the cards you gave me - it's just my version of the truth. |

i know the hookah hting is a recolor of the bubble blower with smoke intead of bubbles... i think you can switch around the already created ones when you make new objects or recolors... |

I mean creating new effects! I've already changed effects of objects. (See my "4 Water Jets") Now I want to know how to make new effects! Like giant waterfalls, fog, explosion, hail, etc. |

i see... i'm not sure, but i don't think any one has succesfully mastered the art of making new, useful animations... i'm sure it's easy to make meshes or objects that imitate fog and waterfalls, but i doubt it'll be easy to do in the near future |

I would like to see a smoke effect that is like the vapor that comes from a "Fog Machine" or "Smoke Machine." I would like a fog machine for my parties and theater shows in the game now that I have a personal fog machine at home. |

Yes it is deffinitely possible. Its just that a lot of us programmers havent gotten around to being able to do it yet. Sorry ^^;;. At the moment the only way to do effects is to use the FX spec on the wiki, and edit the fx file in the effects.package MANUALLY by hand.....which is incredibly hard, and I do mean incredibly hard, but its doable. Once programming is done, that becomes much easier. Its a lot of very complex programming because the effect archive is sort of like a small ultracomplex .package file in itself. Once editors are out though people are going to have to test out all the various fields just to find out what things do, so doing exactly what you want will be awhile off even at that point. |
