View Full Version : Game Plays Fine But Then A Purple Screen Comes Up!

I have not seen anyone else with this issue so I thought I would ask here.

My game played perfectly fine until I installed OFB. I have an AMD 3200 processor with an embedded T-Force (G-force) 6100 graphics card and 1GB of memory. More than enough for the game to play! And my graphics card drivers are up to date.

The game loads normally. I will create Sims or play a lot. When I create a Sim I do not have any problems but after about 20 to 30 minutes on a lot a purple screen pops up and the mouse 'hour glass' begins to spin. After a minute it returns to the game but if I don't 'quit' game play it will go back to the purple screen and the 'hour glass' will continue to turn and turn and turn.

I can not CTRL-ALT_DLT! I can not get anything to respond. It never says that the game crashed nothing. I have to do a manual reboot.

ANd when I check my CPU temp it says that it is at 30-32 degrees. It normally runs at 23-24 so it is not overheating.

I am at a loss and no one else seems to have reported the same thing happening to them! I could really use the help since I have not played the Sims for over three weeks since this constantly kept occuring. And again it only happened after installing OFB. I really hate to lose all of my Sims again... :(

Any suggestions???

This is a common problem with NVidia cards and OFB:

I did everything step by step that you stated to do in the post but it still happened. :(

I was able to create 3 Sims in the CAS screen. As soon as I went to put them in the house the purple screen popped up then went away. I moved them in and continued to play and within 15-20 mins the purple screen popped up again, the hour glass swirled for a minute and then returned to the game. Needless to say I saved immediately and quit before I lost my interractions. It did not solve my problem.

I am at a loss...

Sad thing is that my boyfriend actually just bought this computer for me with a better graphics card because OFB was coming out. I would hate to start all over again... :(

Do you have any other suggestions??? I would really appreciate the help...

Did you clean out your older drivers before installing newer drivers? Also, the new drivers aren't necessarily the best- try some of the archive drivers, many people have more luck with the 7x.xx series.

I did the thorough clean out of the old drivers using Drive Cleaner Pro and then installed the latest ones from Nvidia again. (I had upgraded to the latest drivers about 3 weeks ago... My computer is only about two months old.)

I will give the 7X series ones a try and let you know if they work.

Thank you for the help! :)

Update...

I tried all of the 7x.xx series that I could and all of them said that they were not compatible for my system. I rebooted into Safe Mode and cleaned out the drivers each time . None would install.

The Nvidia software that came with my system was the 81.33 version so I assume that is why it will not take the old drivers. :(

Odd thing is that I can create Sims without a problem but as soon as I start to play the game it starts crashing within 20 minutes. Something told me to wait and not buy OFB but I was too excited to pause and see if there were any glitches in it first.

I hate to start all over again but I am may have to go back to NL if they don't fix the problem at Nvidia or Maxis.

If you know of anything else that may work I would appreciate it but as for now I am at a complete loss... :(

Thank you. :)

Check this thread for links and suggestions about the best drivers for The Sims2:

Make sure you install the correct driver for your operating system, so if you have Windows XP make sure you download the XP drivers.

I have to use Nvidia drivers 81.33 and above for my system so no matter what I am obviously screwed when it comes to playing OFB.

So sorry that I ever invested in Open For Business and I knew that I should have waited to see if there were any potential problems.

I guess I have to go back to Nightlife...

Thank you for your help...
