View Full Version : Flashing terrain after removing hack.

I had an older version of Numenor's SmartLights hack. I removed it because the pets were always in darkness. After I removed it, I went into the game, went into my lot, and played for a while. Then it snowed, and soon after the snow started to melt the terrain started flashing blue, and it has been like that since. I put the hack back, and that fixed it. I took the hack out, and it flashed again. I got the updated, pets friendly version of the hack, and it doesn't work. I'm sure I haven't taken anything else out. I PMd Numenor and he has tried to help, but so far nothing. He reccomended Daysies on this forum. I'll put the discussion in another post.

Do you also have the pond water hack? See this thread http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=222509 and if that doesn't work try this one http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=222461. But I'm willing to bet on pond water :)

Here are all the PMs

This mod has caused big c**p with my game, because I tried to uninstall it. I thought it would be useful, but it turned out to be really irritating because my house was always in darkness. So I removed it, but when I started the game again, all the ground terrain (on a lot, in the neighbourhoood it's fine) flashed blue and white. I know that means that textures are missing, but I don't know why all of a sudden they disappeared.

You must have deleted something else along with the SmartLights mod; I can't help you, I'm sorry: the SmartLights have nothing to do with terrain and textures, and can't be possibly responsible of the flashing terrain in your game.

If the problem is related to a lot only, I suggest to replace the terrain with another one, or to remove it completely. But if you didn't "paint" the terrain with anything, and the flashing blue terrain is the standard Maxis one, then you seem to have problems with the game installation. In this case, instead of reinstalling the game, you could recover the corrupted game files from the 4th CD of the base game: there is a zipped archive named "Compressed.zip" that contains all the original files. Open it and extract the folders "Sims3D" and "Terrains" to C:\Program Files\EA Games\The Sims 2\TSData.

Thanks for your advice. It's really strange that it only affects one lot. All other lots with the same terrain (The std greener maxis one) work fine. It's snowing on my lot, so do you think it could be that? Sorry to be a nag...

I'm not expert with these game glitches... Perhaps Daysies or someone else on the Game Help forum can help.
For sure, you are right when you say that it's strange that the standard green terrain flashes only on one lot... Are you 100% sure that in that lot there was the standard green terrain? Or maybe you covered the terrain with a terrain that looked similar, but was not the original terrain? Did you build that lot yourself or did you download it?

Yes I'm sure. I've tried completely replacing the terrain, reinstalling seasons, and just about everything else that came to mind. I didn't download the house. I took a standard maxis one and spruced it up. The snow isn't the problem. I have a lot where it just snowed. That lot is 100% fine.

You reinstalled Seasons, but that texture comes from the base game...
If you don't want to reinstall the base game and all the EPs, try extracting the textures.package from the Compressed.zip, as explained in my earlier PM.

I tried that. It didn't work.[/QUOTE]

then I have no other suggestion than reisntalling the whole game, starting from the base game.
But before doing anything (and in case you didn't try this already), do this:
1) Move the entire (Documents)\EA Games\The Sims 2 folder to another location (NOT in the Documents! The desktop is fine)
2) Start the game: all the standard neighborhoods will be recreated anew
3) Explore the various lots, and see if you have any flashing grass.
4a) If everything is fine, this means that you have something bad in you neighborhoods or in the Downloads: you should then restore your original The Sims 2 folder, and move away the Downloads only (or the Neighborhoods only), so that you can track down where exactly is the problem.
4b) If after the step 3 you still have flashing grass, then your game is corrupted: you have to reinstall everything (be sure to keep a backup of your "The Sims 2" folder!!!!)

EDIT: .:TSN:. Said: I have this problem too, but I havent downloaded that Targa's pond water thingy..

Only one lot of mine is flashing blue even without any custom content and that one is where I tested rounded pool corners..

Thats what happened to me as well. I had recently put the round corners on my pool. Hope this can help us all.

Also, I have submitted this problem as a bug on the official site. Hopefully EA will take notice and fix it.
