Breeding doesn't work, help please

Okay, so I hope this hasn't been asked before. I searched the forums but couldn't find anything under 'breeding'.

I tried to let my cats have kittens. I had aging on, the relationship between the male and female cat as well as to the owner was very high, I bought the cat house, I sent them making babies and they did. I even got the song... then nothing happened, not after 2 days, after 3, after 2 weeks.

I couldn't click "try for kitten" (or whatever it is in the English game version) anymore, and when I tried to move in further cats it said someone in the house was pregnant and it would be too many people then. (I have one male Sim and 3 cats, tried it with both females).

So, where is the problem? Why are both of my female cats "pregnant" - or at least one of them - but I don't get any kittens?

What exactly do I need, what did you do specifically when your cats or dogs had offspring? I'm clearly at a loss here.


Another problem I've had:
Relationship points are at 100 but the pets still don't count as friend. I even changed the relationships with SimPE and clicked friend and best friend, but in the game there's no friend icon when I look at their relationships.

And before you asked, I've installed the original game, not a hacked downloaded one or anything. I just don't have OFB yet.

So please help with either of the above (especially the first).

Try forcing an error (http://www.modthesims2.com/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Force_Error_or_Reset) on the pet and see if that helps.

*sigh* Doesn't work :(
I tried deleting, tried forcing an error, none of them worked. The cat appears still pregnant but never gives birth. I even tried it in another house with another pair of cats but it was the same problem. Could this be some glitch, something I'd need a patch on?

I take it you tried this without your custom content?

Um... no. But if breeding only works without custom content then I can scratch it anyway because I can't play with the houses and families I've created with tons of custom content.
But I'll try it on a test family once.

Well if it does turn out to be a custom content conflict you wouldn't get rid of all of it... just the items that are causing issues. That be why we tell you to remove your custom content and try again before posting.

Should I move the downloads folder temporarily or would it be enough to disable the custom content?
And how do I EVER find out which of my ~10k downloads causes the problem? lol

I just reinstalled my whole computer and forgot to safe this tool/prog I had. It was to check which downloads might be broken. Any idea which one that might have been?

I did that. I went through all of that posting wizard thing as well and none of the suggested points seemed to apply as I didn't know that this might have anything to do with custom content. I didn't find anything on "breeding" in any of the FAQ, so I posted the question here. I thought maybe there might be a patch or some other reason for this problem that one of you know of but I couldn't find.

I'll try it without the custom content then.

Actually, yes, removing your downloads folder is basically step one of the FQ required before posting. We don't link those requirements for our health. We do it because if one actually DOES the FAQ...it solves most peoples' problems and they don't need to post. Again, let us know if you have any problems whilst doing the FAQ.

If, after doing the required steps, the problem still remains, please post and tell us what you did to try to remedy the situation, what ( if anything) helped, or did not help with your problem. We love to help people. Just give our FAQ's a chance before posting. :)
