I didn't really know what catagory to put this under since I think it's a technical issue, but it involves gameplay, so sorry in advance!

Basically, I've looked through the walkthroughs, read through previous posts etc but it never seems to really match the problem I have.

I have built up to generation five my family, I have all the EPs and no extras packs. As far as I am aware I have all up to date patches (including the 2nd Freetime one). I do use custom content, but have only one hack- the wear any clothes when pregnant hack. This hack was removed for updates and EPs. My specs are good for sims 2 (no lag, see all cut-scenes, details etc) and I'm using an ATI Radeon X1600 graphics card which hasn't given me any problems so far (bought new at xmas just gone).

I started noticing problems about a month ago- first of all, it was just a case of having to restart, because every time I clicked on something the sim's menu would disappear so i could never click any actions.
This stopped and everything was fine.

Then I noticed that the pet food wasn't being put away properly- but again, no big deal, it went after a few actions by my sims (and it didn't happen everytime either).

Now though! Everytime any sim goes outside the main house to the greenhouse to tend plants- they just go to the middle of the lawn and do it there- no where near the actual plants! After a few rows they eventually make their way in and finish. Same goes for tending two trees- they can literally be standing in the kitchen and leaves will fly everywhere while the tree outside gets trimmed into shape. In this same 'Twilight Zone' the sims will go up phantom staircases, but appear in the top of the house just fine. And if they are in this area and want to get food, the fridge door will open and the food will appear in their hands before jumping to the table in the dining room! As far as I can see this 'weird space' seems to spread from about the kitchen area, across to a third of the greenhouse and all the way to the back of my garden- about a third of the lot. Oh and nearly everytime the sims do go outside into the garden they will jump in fright at something- anything! Even things that aren't there- like weeds and things.

I haven't reinstalled, just because I'm afraid of losing my sims family! I thought it was to do with custom content, but I removed all recent files and the glitch is still there. And if i do reinstall, will my family be safe if I back up the files? And will the error be carried back through the backup? D: And as for my custom content, I only have genetics, hair and a few clothes, so not much and nothing really to do with the lot itself.

SORRY FOR LONG POST- just thought I'd better be thorough :) Thanks in advance for any tips/ideas etc It's not the most pressing issue, because the game is still fien to play. I'm just worried that this is the beginning of something worse, and I've put so much time into this family I would be gutted if I have to scrap them! Thanks again.

Is this only happening with one family? If not, what happens when you test with completely clean user files? (Cut your My Docs/The Sims 2 folder to desktop and run the game)

As far as I know it is only happening on this lot, as it's the only one I play- whenever the sims go to university or go out shopping and that it has all been fine, I get no glitches. I don't want to do it, but do you think it would be worth just moving the family? I have made some random sims and moved them into different lots but these have not had errors in.

I was trying to think back to what may have caused it and the only thing that really changed was that I had to delete the graves I had on the lot because everytime I opened the lot a replica of the graves would be lined up against the post box @_@ plus the ghosts were just annoying everyone. I think the glitch may have turned up around then- it just seems to have got worse over time so it's hard to pin point. I also had a frozen sim at one point but I resolved that pretty quickly by using the move cheat.

From all that you have mentioned, it sounds more like your saved lot is corrupted. Your installation seems to be fine. Why don't you try moving your Sims out from the lot and recreate a new one for them? Eventually bulldozing the old one.

You might also want to clone your Sims and save it somewhere else as a backup or for later use using SimPE.

Yeah I think you could be right. Bugger, I didn't want to leave that lot, but I suppose if all my sims are safe then thats the main thing! haha. I just have to make sure I pack up all the heritage and family tree stuff before I move.

Thanks for the help guys ^_^ Better get cracking lol

Backup before you do anything- then, if this turns out not to be the issue, you can always go back.
