I doubt it's released in any NA/US stores yet.

It is real.

(Give me a minute on the pics, didn't realize they were that big.)

And yes, this is from the US.

Indiana to be exact.

Meijer is in the States, it's a wal mart kind of store.

TheSandman21
29th May 2009, 4:35 AM
Indianapolis area

A Meijer is actually a regional chain of stores that WalMart actually stole the SuperCenter concept from.

Ohhhhhh, okay, thanks ;) Either way, I'm stuck getting it from Best Buy... that's where I pre-ordered from. Those little f***ers better not get it in LATE! Haha! I believe I mentioned my disdain for Best Buy, no?! Long list of bonuses was the only reason i pre-ordered from there.

Negative. Then again I didn't install the EADM...

does that mean you still didn't play the game.

Oh, I've played it, its a bit of a change going from TS2, especially moving the camera, that feels really weird to me compared to how I know it from TS2, but it's got definite potential.

I read in another thread that somebody went up to GameStop (having been told they could get their Prima Guide on the 27th of this month), and while GameStop DID have the guides AND the game, they could not release it until Jun. 2! If Best Buy has that same policy, I'm gonna go APESHIT on them no matter WHOSE fault it is! I pity the one who delivers THAT news to me :P

SimsFanJohn

I got a special pre-order deal through MicroCenter. Put $5 down and then when the game comes in, just pay $19.99 more and it's yours (total of $24.99 instead of $49.99). Great deal, but it specifically says that it's only good if I get the game between June 2 and June 14, so even on the off chance they have it in stock, I don't think I'd be able to get it.

The good news is that if the games out, we'll start getting more reviews over the weekend.

Question for the original poster -- In the Sims 2 and most of the Sims 2 expansions packs, there was usually an ad for the NEXT expansion pack. Any ads for the first Sims 3 expansion pack in the copy you bought? It doesn't look like it from the pics, but just thought I'd ask.

Ah, the first volunteer to be the designated guinea pig :)

Story progression
securom
amount of content packaged with game
etc. etc.

pins and needles here.

Negative, what you saw in the pictures was what I see in the box (well besides the CD-key of course. :D)

I've tried making various single sims, but not families yet, personally, Im not seeing much difference yet between the CAS from TS2 and the one from TS3, besides the changes from the old sloppy -> neat style.

I havent played enough yet to see if story progression is working.

If Securom IS in the game, I haven't seen any signs of it yet.
Content-wise, just a few things I've noticed: 10 cars (from $950 to $105,000), 2 bicycles, no hot-tub.

Congratulations! I hope that you enjoy the game very much. I know of Meijers, we have them in Louisville. But that's kind of the problem, we have them in Louisville which is 40 miles away! I've got mine pre-ordered elsewhere anyway. But again, congratulations! :)

There's a clerk in that Meijers that's in super-big trouble right now.

Yeah, when I used to work at Blockbuster, the store could get a $10,000 USD fine for "pre" releasing material. Movies, games, etc. And, of course, the CSR could be fired. And possibly fined.

SimsFanJohn

Not exactly the same thing, but I remember hearing a few years ago when one of the last Harry Potter books was coming out, a mail deliverer (I think for the US Post Office, but maybe for UPS or Fed Ex) delivered the book to a customer a few days before the release date. She was actually able to go back and get the book back, but I believe she still ended up losing her job.

kohakuchan
29th May 2009, 5:59 AM
What others said. Selling a game before the release date can get stores in huge, huge trouble and the employee(s) that sold them terminated. (I was almost tempted to go tomorrow and see if my local Meijer had the game, but then I remembered this. As much as I want my copy, I don't want anyone to get in trouble over it.)

I already have it preordered with release date delivery from Amazon anyway. Just five more days... :anime:

Can you please check the Story Mode function please. Can you turn it on or off? if you turn it off, does it actually stop the story progression?

TheSandman21
29th May 2009, 6:15 AM
It can be turned off, but thats something that may take a day or to to see if it actually stops the progression. Also life spans can be turned off, or they can set to a 360 day max.

ktbcca
29th May 2009, 6:18 AM

coltraz
29th May 2009, 6:24 AM
Play for about 3 or 4 Sim days, with story progression disabled, and then look around the neighbourhood. If there are Sims carrying new born babies, or you can see babies inside houses, or you see women waddling, or you read in the paper that so and so moved out or had a baby, then we'll know for certain it's still borked in the released version...

kohakuchan

Here's a question: Have you noticed any in-game advertising?

People at the Amazon discussion boards have been throwing this idea around that the game would connect to the Internet and use your browsing history/software installed on your machine/etc. to serve advertising to you within the game. This has always sounded pretty wonky to me ever since I heard it, so it'd be nice to know if I'm right and the rumors are bunk. (And if they're not bunk, well, I'm not going to cancel my preorder, but that's just silly.)

Also would be interesting to know if cheats that the Prima Guide listed as being usable, but that pirates have found unusable, work... Type Ctrl + Shift + C (is that the right combo? Someone correct me if that isn't right...) and try these:

shazaam - gives 2,500 lifetime happiness points to active sim

edit in cas - takes the sim back to Create-a-Sim allowing you to make full physical and personality changes

These supposedly do crap all.

Also, thanks for answering some of our questions. Hopefully you don't mind. If you do you can just ignore - I don't believe you did volunteer to be our guinea pig, afterall.

sandman, I know you've got a lot of requests here, but I'd also be interested to see if genetics are still broken. You could do a test as follows:

--make two sims with natural hair (blond brown etc)
--then have them dye it unnatural colors (blue etc)

Then have offspring. Did the offspring inherit the natural color, or the dyed color?

I am so jealous! I stopped by my gamestop today to see if I needed to pay for overnight shipping or anything to insure that the game would be here on Tuesday and the guy told me he already has it in stock. However, he rufused to sell me my copy until Tuesday. It's a collectors addition but I think they have both in stock already! YEA! I have taken vacation and made a long weekend next week for 4 solid days of simming! I will spend Tuesday and Wednesday nights playing around and checking it out and Thursday night I will make my family and play, play, play!

I'm so incredibly jealous! I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to get the game or not seeing as my husband just started a new job and we had to relocate but I ended up getting a $50 gift card to Wal-Mart for my birthday a couple days ago. I called my Wal-Mart and they have no idea if they are going to have it in store on June 2nd (one lady at a different wal-mart didn't even know what I was talking about.... not a good sign). I'll be so disappointed if I'm not able to buy the game Tuesday. I'll have to hate you all a little bit (maybe a lot!).

Lol! Yep, that was me. I wouldn't have even bothered to go to pick the book up ahead of time if I'd been told it came out on the 2nd in the first place. They usually go ahead and release them a day or two ahead of the game, so I seriously think what happened was that the books came in the same box as the games, and since the box was marked for a street date of June 2, whoever runs the place prolly changed their computers to read that the book was also street dated for the 2nd. After all, if they open a box ahead of time, someone might "accidentally" get a hold of one of the games!

I did go and check my closest Walmart to see if they had any books, but the one nearest to me kinda sucks and doesn't have a very good electronics area, so they didn't have squat!

Ah well, it's just a couple more days. Kudos to those of you who have been able to get the game already. I'm very happy for you! :)

I think over at MATY there was mention of the testingcheatsenabled true working. Also that you could use motherlode and kaching, but not familyfunds. And you are correct, it is ctrl-shft-c that we use in TS2, and I would assume it's probably the same in TS3.

Well, as it turned out, that IS Best Buy's policy (what a shocker  ) but I was asking over the phone, and was about to leave for a dental appointment, so my blood pressure was high enough as it was. Otherwise I SERIOUSLY would've gone off on her ass! :alarm: ( <-- my "I'm ABOUT to kick your ass!" alarm)

EDIT: Sandman, their mistake can't really be fixed now, and you shouldn't feel guilty. I'm sure if you knew the guy could get into trouble for that, you would have waited. As I told someone whose copy got there today via UPS, go ahead and play it... no sense in torturing yourself, and feeling guilty for the ones who still have to wait. It won't change anything ;)

I work in a major shopping center in Australia, and walked past several stores last night (30th May) and they had them out and selling them. Apparently they put them out on the 29th. They are selling for AUS$89.98. I didn't see whether they had the Prima Guides yet, but as I'm not buiying either, it's not a big deal. I know that with several of TS2 EP's that they were alwayson the shelves and selling a few days before the official release date.

OMG, you are SO lucky! I called around EVERY freakin' place I could THINK of that carried pc games, to see if I could pick up my copy of the game today, and nobody would even admit to having the game in a box in the back!

I mean... If you can't sell it to me until June 2, that's fine, I understand... but at least give me the peace of mind of knowing my shit will BE THERE when the store OPENS on Tues.! :faceslap:

I'm so jealous. Sims won't reach my house until, maybe, Friday.
My mother would only pick the free shipping option, even though I was paying for the whole thing. >.<
Think you could have one shipped to NY? XD

Edit: My Gamestop is like that, too. The people are so nice, and if your item isn't there they'll even refer you to a different place (i.e. Toys R Us, or some other place) that might have it.

You know... sad thing is that a lot of retail stores are making the "mistake" of selling copies of TS3 before the street release date. They'll get fined, and NEVER make that mistake again :( <-- for those of us who didn't buy from those stores

 Cuz they REFUSE to do so now. They're like "The street release date is actually Jun. 2, so we can't release it until then... if we do, there are penalties."

Well, if I knew the store I worked for would get a fine in the thousands of dollars and I'd probably get fired, I wouldn't sell games before the street date either. :/

I understand people are anxious to get the game, but IMO, I don't think it's worth potentially getting game store employees terminated.

Oh, I've played it, its a bit of a change going from TS2, especially moving the camera, that feels really weird to me compared to how I know it from TS2, but it's got definite potential.

There's an option to turn the sims 2 edge scrolling on :)

... there's no edge scrolling by default? Whoa.

I may have to enable this option then, if I can't get used to the camera.

It's madness tryin to get the hang of the default cameras but if u go into options, in one of those tabs it says turn on edge scrolling and u tick the box and we're all happy again rofl....took me 2 days to find it tho!!

You can still do that thing where you click and drag the screen can't you? Because I haven't used edge scrolling since I discovered I could do that. (And it took me quite a while to figure out I could :P)

So kohakuchan

That whole get store employees terminated sounds more like mafia than a game release... Did you just mean sacked or do you believe that EA games wil make people sleep with the fishes?

JeNNacide
31st May 2009, 10:53 AM
I think she (or he) more meant.. sacked. EA can hardly get their act together to make and release a game on time (hello 4 month delay) and stop it from being pirated, let alone track down every single employee from every single store and whack them. Seriously. This is EA. Seriously.

Do you marion? If so, did you see if ebgames had it for sale?
:O:O:O I live in Australia! I live near a major shopping centre! WHEREWHEREWHERE?

It was at Westfield Marion. I know Sanity has it out for sale, and I'm pretty sure EB Games does, too.

I know a lot of people on this thread are saying the game shouldn't be purchased before the release date due to the potential penalties that could be imposed upon individual employees/retailers, but if they have made the mistake/choice to put the game out early, its on them to take the penalites. If I was planning on buying the game, you can bet for sure that I would have grabbed it last night, when it still would have been 3 days before the official release date.

Hey everyone~

Just called the local Wal*Mart Supercenter in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and customer service told me they were putting TS3 out at midnight on June 1st. I skimmed through earlier posts and didn't see one confirming a midnight release, but I think it's safe to say 24-hour stores are stocking at 12 am - at least in large cities, anyway.

Hope this helps some of you get your hands on The Sims sooner. :) I know I'll be there at midnight!!! And what's really sad is I preordered (but can't wait) the Collector's Edition and the Prima Guide from Amazon so I could get the bonus goodies from EA and Amazon, plus I have the code for the Target pattern from the Introduction CD they sold way back when we were supposed to have TS3 by February... I missed out on all those bonus things with the older versions of The Sims, so I'm not letting it happen again!

~phorang3

PS I also sunk to a new low when I told the guy on the phone TS3 was a birthday present for my sick nephew (which is a total lie).......... but I still have to wait. *is ashamed*

It's the individual store corporations that are required to enforce the release date on EA's behalf. Take a look at this thread (http://www.modthesims2.com/showthread.php?t=342533) if you don't understand what I mean.

Sure, EA doesn't have the time or inclination to go around reinforcing this stuff, but the stores do.

But yes, you were correct that terminated does mean fired. Sorry, the retail lingo slipped in there. ;)

That IS true about the retail stores. I called EVERY retail store I could THINK of that MIGHT carry it to see if they would sell it to me this weekend. They ALL told me they could be fined for doing so

EDIT: EA should've gone ahead and granted stores permission to sell the copies if they had them in stock already. I mean, hey, stores can't get their hands on a shipment of them until EA releases it, am I right?!

I am not going to try to get the game any sooner, as the Big W mailout is showing it at a good price and available in 3 days, so that's where I am obtaining my copy from.

To those that have the game already, enjoy and keep the info coming.

Another Illinois Simmer! Yeah!

I don't know of any place that has it for early sale. I am beginning to wish I ordered it online instead of store pick up. But I already confirmed my copy will be available on June 2. I just really don't want to wait. Been waiting since Feb. Geeish!

Since this isn't a first person shooter or the new guitar hero's release there of course won't be any midnight releases in town. After all its just a stupid house game right? NOT! :)

Hey all!

Just got back from my local 24-hour Wal*Mart with Sims in hand!!! So for those of you still up, it looks like stores are stocking the shelves at midnight - I actually got mine handed to me right out of the box. :)

I'm going to load it up and get down to business. I'm looking forward to talking about all our first impressions once everyone gets their hands on a copy.

Now to just wait for my CE bonuses and Prima guide...

That's awesome, phorang! I was just sitting here looking at the clock and realizing it's been past midnight here now for nearly 30 minutes. Even so, no midnight raid on WalMart for me. That's 30 minutes in and 30 minutes back and I need to get good sleep tonight.

Oh, and please, feel free to start sharing your first impressions ASAP! My excitement over potentially getting TS3 tomorrow is down to a dull roar as I'm trying to remain calm and rational. But that's one reason I want as much information as possible.

 Not tonight, definitely. Now it's almost an hour later and I'm heading to bed before very long. I have to be halfway sharp tomorrow so I can do a decent grocery shopping run. If I do bring home TS3 I need to make sure the fridge, cupboards, and freezers are stocked with wholesome food because no one around here is going to live on chips and pop--they'd all be close to dead in sight of a week. I have a very strange family--being raised on whole, unprocessed food with as few artificial additives as possible, they really hate junk food. :P I also have a few other things I need to take care of this week, if at all possible.
