View Full Version : What Should I Expect?

I'm probably getting the game tommarow while me and my mom run arrands. She said I could get it early since I've been a good girl and helped out around the house while she was sick; cooking low-carb dinners for her (she can't have carbs), keeping tabs on my brother (making sure he doesn't spend all day on the couch) and doing a bit of cleaning (mopping, dusting, etc.).

Anyway, I know there are some big changes, and I'd like to know what to expect so I don't get overwhelmed like I did when I first got Sims2. There's also things I'm a little nervouse about. Like the story progression. Because of the fact I'm mildy overbearing, I like to be in total control, but after reading a few posts, I've learned of unexpected babies that no one knows who the father is. This worries me. Not enough to make me not want to buy the game, but enough to not want to make more than one family. Is it really as bad as it sounds? Or am I just overreacting to what people are saying?
I'm also a little worried about the speed toggle. I'm VERY impatient, so I kinda fear I might get bored a little to quickly. Is this also something to worry about, or am I just overreacting again?

Anyway, all I'm really looking for is any big changes and other things I should expect and keep alert for.
Please and thank you! :bunny:

You can make more than one family, just put them in different towns. Right now, I'm operating two families, each living in a copy of sunset valley.

Watch out for the moodlets. They're these little things that pop up on the sim panel and tell you exactly what's affecting your sims mood. The more positive moodlets, the happier your sims are.

And if you're strapped for cash, try collecting rocks or bugs, or going fishing. You can see what you find and earn some money.

There's not a lot of single Sims around. If you need some for love interests, I'd suggest making them yourself and placing them somewhere in town.

Careers are a lot more involved, which is really fun, but still challenging and a bit change.

Thanks you two! I'll be sure to keep these things in mind ^-^
*jumping up and down while staring at clock* Is it tommarow yet? 8D

Oh, and if you feel like you don't have enough time, under the options panel you can make your sims lifespan longer.

Make sure you tell us about your first sims!

lol I'm trying to get tomarow to come quicker, so I took my sleeping pills and am listening to softer music and instrumentals to lul me to sleep. I'm a little drousy right now, but I'm not tired yet.
I'll probably play Sims2 a little to help time go by faster. ^-^

Do not listen to negative reviews. Always go by your own opinion because you may like it. Now It does have pro's and con's but doesn't everything. The open town is best part. However I dislike the fact I cant customize them fully (ie bodyshop). But try it and see how you like it.

I actually love the game. I thought it was way better then Sims 2
If you start with the parts similiar to sims 2 then it's not so overwhelming

- take you time playing, if you start getting confused or too many things happening at once, just pause the game, and tell them what to do then press play.

- if a sims social is down when they go to work, just let them talk or meet coworkers

If you can't sleep, you may as well go ahead and do your PC cleanup to insure a great installation. Update drivers for video and sound card, virus, spyware and registry scan. Then turn on defrag and go to bed. ;p

The game is great, I hope you have no issues with install or crashes and enjoy it as much as I do! The gameplay seems very much like Sims 2 on the surface, but it goes so much deeper than 2 ever did. The beauty is in the details.

*nods* I'm actually planning on putting it on the family desktop. My laptop's processor is only 2.0, and it requires at least a 2.4 processer. My dad says it'll run fine, but I want it to run great, not fine. Sure, I won't be able to spend every waking moment playing, but at least it'll run the way it's sappose to.

Good advice.

The reality is, TS3 is a great game, but it is also VERY different from TS2. When a game changes this much there is going to be some pretty vocal nerdrage on both sides no matter what the quality of the game.

Even when the story progression issues are fixed, some people are going to be very unhappy with the game. As designed, TS3 really seems to assume that you will only be playing one family within a saved game and that if you switch families, you are likely wanting to make the switch permanent. For a lot of people, this will be a big change from the way they played TS2.

Much of the game (the new social system, the inventory, the seamless neighborhood, the skill system, CAST) feels to me like a real improvement over TS2. But much of it will come down to how you feel about the changes in playstyle that the game may require.

This is really smart advice PG. Sims 3 is not a complete failure. I have enjoyed some of the openness that was not available with the Sims 2. Sure there are far too many bugs for release, but it will get better. I went in yesterday knowing that bugs were rampant in the game. From a 10,000 foot view, the core game itself is beautiful and had ton of potential. The launch execution was 100% fail.

Well, I won't be able to get it for another week or more, so hopefully by then I'll have learned more about it from videos and such, and also hopefully by then there will be patches for most of the bugs. =)

*is bored out of my mind* Oh. My. God. I'm BORED. I'm sick of playing Sims2 and all my art supplies is downstairs and quite frankly, I don't feel like going down there because there's too much clutter and it's hard to get down there. DX
Anyway, anything else to tell me about the game to keep my occupied for the next day and a half?
