Well. I moved some sims and their new home is across the road from the Wainwright's. I happened to notice Boyd talking to someone in the yard so I kinda move a little closer cause I'm always curious as to what goes on in other houses. He was talking to what is probably a son they had at some point named Dylan. By the size of him he appears to be a teen but he has gray hair like his elder father.
What weird genetic things have you experienced in your game?

I bet the father was created as an elder and because he was given grey hair in CAS, it was regarded as part of his genetics lol

Your kid gets your current hair color when spawned, not your birth/cas color. So if you're old, if you have purple hair, whatever, that's what the kid gets.

I have parents both with black hair and the child has brown hair. The only relative either has is a blonde haired sister. Plus the dad has gray eyes and the mom has hazel and the child has these wierd kind of gray green eyes.

I have a Sim family I made from scratch where the dad has black hair and green eyes, and the mom red hair and brown eyes.
One of their kids had brown hair and blue eyes. What.

This crap happens to me all the time. My main family's first generation has six children who couldn't look more different.... Except when they hit teen, they all transition into mommy or daddy's exact same haircut. :\

It's pretty lame how a child will just inherit whatever colour hair their parents have at the time. Some sims change their hair colour so often, I totally loose track on what their "genetic" hair colour was, and the child ends up with black hair, with blue tips or bright red with pink highlights. It's madness. Didn't work that way in Sims 2, did it?

I actually like that dyes pass on genetically. It's one way to make all the townies I'm not playing look less cookie-cutter -- at least some of them were once in my families and have inherited light streaks or whatever.

Oh yeah, there is also a 10% chance your kid will be born with random features.

I think really light blond appears white. That happened with a character on my game.

Really light blond appears as white in real life too. Myself and a large number of other adults with light fawn or dirty blonde hair had totally white hair until we were around eight.

Genetics are so weird in Sims. xD My sim-me had twins, both had purple eyes, one had dark brown hair (( As did the mom. )), the other had this dirty-blondish hair (( No one matching.. )) and.. for some reason, one was whiter than the mother, and the other was darker than the father. I thought skin colour was supposed to be the same with any kind of twins/triples. xD

So, basically, from what I've read so far there are no working genetics in the game, it's all random. Even 10% random is just too random for me. What crap...

There are genetics, they are just very wonky.
I had a family I was testing things out on, the mother and father had brown hair, the first 3 children also had brown hair, during the next pregnancy just before labor I gave dad green hair, the child was born with green hair. I tried this a few times with different hair colors, and most of the time the child was born with whatever hair color dad had at time of birth. Skin genetics are wonky too.
Awesomemod makes the skin genetics work better than the EA way, well it makes many things work better than the EA way.

Wonky genetics pretty much equals no genetics.

The random mutation thing deals with sims randomly becoming fat in town. I actually saw it happen while the lady was on my front porch. She was skinny when she rang the bell and by the time I answered she had blew up like Violet in The Chocolate Factory.

Nope he had light blonde hair before he became an elder I had dropped by that household before. His wife was a brunette and they had a young adult daughter with light blonde hair living in another house with several roommates. lol
Another thing that happened was I downloaded a female sim and she had light blonde hair with pink streaks. She married and had children with Don Lothario. Her first child was a son with blonde and pink hair. Their twin daughters had black hair though.
I changed the son to just have blonde though lol

That one is the "bus mutilation" but of the mod, not the random genetic mutation. :)

My sims had twin girls, Kale and Anita. Kale is genetically 90% like her father, but with her mother's hair color. Anita is genetically 90% like her mother, but with her father's hair color.
In addition to that, both the parents have perfectly normal noses, but Kale has an odd, alien-like nose.
Other than that, I am not noticing any major genetic mixing.

So many of the babies born in my game have these dark green eyes. It's so weird.
Also, the son of a sim of mine that had brown hair and brown eyes and his wife who had red hair and blue eyes came out with black hair and green eyes... Crazy.
I assume this has something to so with them having unknown parents and so unknown genetic history?

Exactly. If I can't rely on it when I play, it's not there for me at all.
But I'll be trying Pes' mod, hopefully there will be many more :D
