View Full Version : Custom Icon/Thumbnail issues

I'm trying to clear out custom icons from my dled packages, because they interfere/overlap with the S3 CC folder icon. Overall, it hasn't been a problem but there are some items that are causing severe slow down afterward; to the point that my game crashes. I have been using processmod to ID the culprits but dashboard isn't finding anything wrong with my files. It's only *some* of them, too. Most of the packages I've stripped are still working fine.

I'm not really sure what else to do, since there isn't anything obviously wrong with the file. I could redownload the files, but that doesn't solve the issue of the custom icon/thumbnail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated... I lost my favorite pair of jeans because of these shenanigans.

Not to be literal, but I need to confirm what you meant: trying to clear out custom icons from my dled packages, because they interfere/overlap with the S3 CC folder icon

The CC items' thumbnails are overlapping with others in the game? Is it happening for all CC items or just a select few? In a particular CAS category, or Buy/Build mode, or all of them?
Or a mod that changes the CC icon indicator in the catalog?
Or are you talking about file thumbnails in Windows Explorer?

Did you also Game_Help:Sims_3_Delete_Cache_Files and thumbnails when you remove CC?

Sorry that was unclear. Some CC creators put their own thumbnails into the CC so that you can see who made it. This was helpful originally because EA didn't have a way to distinguish which items were CC and which weren't. Now, there is a folder image that is added, by the game, to CC and that image often overlaps with the creator icons, which I find annoying. In most of the packages it's an ICON or THUM image that can be deleted without any issues but for some of my packages, when I delete those images, the game doesn't like those packages any more. Does that answer your question/make any more sense?

The CC I've had issues with doesn't seem to be specific to a category; I've had a hair, some clothes, some build parts, and patterns all be an issue. I don't have any mods installed. It's def not the windows explorer icons, it's in game.

I'm pretty sure I've deleted all the cache and thumbnails etc at one point... Dashboard has an option to do all that, right? I can certainly try it again and see if it will help but I think that it didn't fix anything the last time I tried it.

Oh, OK. So, you've deleted the ICON or THUM resource from the .package file in s3pe? And the saved .package content is not showing the corrected thumbnail in the catalog?

If that is the case, then this is no longer a Game Help issue, and as you're modifying others' creations, totally out of scope here.
If you'd like to know if there is a way to do this properly and have run through some meshing guidelines which didn't help, may I suggest to post this question in the Create forums - either Meshing or Modding...

I've never tried it myself so I cannot tell if there are more steps involved...

If the game can no longer read the packages after you have removed the ICON or THUM resource using s3pe, then they were probably made with TSRW. Some sort of compression thingy that clashes with s3pe so that the package no longer show in game. You should be able to export all resources, then import into a *new* package. Pretty sure you need to save with a new name and not the previous one, at least that is my experience.

Also be sure to delete the Thumbnails folder after modifying any packages.
