Greetings all.

Am building a new city and am teaching myself how to use the various tools for recolouring such as S3OC and S3PE. One of my aims is to match the style of the community buildings as I find the various colour schemes and different bricks etc distracting.

So, I was working on the Wilsanoff (sp?) Community theatre to match it into the red brick style I have settled on and got this far..

Origional on left, mine on right :-

I have the building and the LOD recoloured to my satisfaction, but I noticed that none of the textures in the model contain the movie posters, so my very old and addled brain is assuming that somewhere in the game, these are held seperately and then applied when the building is loaded into the world and locked onto some sort of reference point on the building.

I have seen a mod here that replaces 4 of the 6 posters with new ones by using an _ADS tag DDS file?? also new to me.

Menaceman44's replacements (http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=393772)

However, I am also looking at trying to replace the other 2 posters.

As a total newbie to this modding thing, I am trying to find out how to work out how and where these posters are kept in the game and would appreciate any advice or links to tutorials as to how to go about finding them. I searched all items in S3OC in case they appeared as pics, but didn't see them (doesn't mean they aren't there though). I understand this is real beginner stuff but any help appreciated so I can continue my learning.

Sorry if this is covered elsewhere, but I couldn't find anything on a search.

Regards

The poster image files that you are looking for are located in GameData\Shared\Packages\FullBuild2.
They are labelled as movieTheatre_posterTemp#_d where # is a number. One of them has no number.
I hope you find that info helpful. Good luck with your project.

ohhhhhhh thank you.. it shows how much of a newbie I am that I didn't even realise these packages existed :( okay some new packages to explore and investigate. Thanks so much.

Is there any link in the object that I may have missed somewhere which points to that, or is it more a get to know where everything is and then explore type concept? :)

Thanks again.

I found them just by exploring the files. If you know what type of file you are looking for e.g. an image or an xml etc then you may find this wiki page useful; http://www.simswiki.info/wiki.php?title=Sims_3:PackedFileTypes
It lists file types, IDs and names, and what file to find them in for currently known Sims files.

I'm not sure if you would have to make your own default replacement textures or just import your edits into your package file as I believe the images were originally intended to be changed in and out when connected to the internet with real world movie advertising. EA haven't activated this yet but it is in the user agreement.
I didn't experiment with none-defaults as it wasn't what I was trying to do.

ahhh thanks... I can see me spending many happy hours exploring the packages.

Thanks for the info re what was meant to happen. For now, I am just adding the _ADS into the package and it seems to be working fine.
