What is missing from Pets in your oppinion?

Well not to much struck me tbh, but one thing that did was there is no display shelf for the trophies you can win with your pet. Sure there is the WA stands but they are so big n clumsy, just dont look right on a lot of home lots.

Also, cowboy boots and the new cute slippers, kids have 'em, adults have 'em.... what about the poor teens?

Oh, and that lovley photo of sim on horse from the racing score board....WHY no way to get that for the sim to display at home?

There are a couple of shelves that can be shifted up and down the wall. I think they came with Generations.

ontopic: I would have liked some farm animals like chickens, cows, and ducks for the ponds. But I guess they are not usually known as pets.

Patience, my students. I am sure there will be farm animals and the option to hunt deer for meat in time. Not by EA, of course, but nevertheless....

Is it wrong that I really do want to hunt down some deer? I thought it was just me. I've been suppressing the urges...

It has come to my attention that truffles are missing. Also, there are dogs in our world who are trained to search for truffles besides pigs. I have been told that a well-trained dog is less likely to eat truffles.

Anyway, I think cats have a better end of the deal when it comes to hunting in the game. After completely training both a dog and cat, I found that my cat made the most money...and was quick about it.

No. Nothing wrong with that. I do want my Sim to get on her horse and fire arrows at those deer ... all the time. I admit I'm not a big fan of the "full fridge" gameplay. I prefer to grow produce and not have a fridge at all (or a stove ... fires, anyone?) but my Sims have a hard time accepting that. My Sims like to live in a tent and work for their food ... and I've wanted to be able to hunt ever since I played "Medieval".

So far, the only thing that made me pull out my hair in frustration is the lack of maternity-compatible outfits. We had some of those with generation, I was hoping for some more with pets.
Also, I wonder where the Michael Jackson background music is each time I see a horse moonwalk... (and boy, do they do that often *grumble*pathfinding*grumble*)

Yeah, that's probably what it is. Medieval is full of hunting for game. Of course, you don't get to see the actual cuteness of the soon-to-be dinner in that one.

Oh, and edit. Just some background trivia on MB:
For one year of my childhood, I spent living in the mountains with a grouchy old man (step-grandfather). He didn't get his meat at the store. He got it from the woods & river. Vegetables came from the garden out back. It was just like the movie Heidi. For one year...no McDonald's happy meals for me!

Either or. Basically a cat or dog equivalent to the Horseman career. Ability to sell puppies and kittens would be a necessity of course.

Also there needs to be a way to play simless pet families without me spending fifteen minutes typing in cheats just to set up the game, because that is an awesome playstyle.

If you can put them up for adoption you could play them as a sort of pet shelter. You could earn money from the animals they catch. Lizards are quite expensive, my cat caught 2 and they sold for something like 500-600 simoleons each. It also ate my parrot and scratched all the furniture but that's another story. :p

As a few people have mentioned: An ability to sell cats and dogs.

A skill based around each of them so there could be a profession to gain money from working with either cats or dogs.

Farm animals which an give eggs and cheese and such. And to go along with this, working options for dogs. A cattle market would have been fun

Pests which the cat can control. Like if your house is a very countryside house than you have a random chance of getting mice or rats, but cats keep this down or can catch them.

More to do with dogs. I'm kind of bored already with them (And I work with them in real life, they are the sole reason I wanted this game...) So what they can find me gems and crap? Why can't they hunt animals too? Or do a canine equivilent of the show jumping (Agility) Heck you could have a dog center rabbit hole and have things like lure coursing and agility as rabbit hole events like racing and show jumping.

On the truffles thing, MB, it's true. There are even dog breeds known for it and specifically bred for it now. TBH I knew of truffle dogs before pigs, and although it's likely just because of me being more involved with dogs, from what I've heard they're more common now than pigs. For the reason you said, a dog wont eat the truffles. (And I imagine they're easier to transport.) Italian Water dog and poodles are known for truffle hunting.

More small animals like rabbits, different color options for the small animals and ability to have more than one in the same cage (I don't actually have Pets yet so correct me if you can do that), sports for dogs and cats (there are tons of possibilities for dogs, like frisbee, herding, etc. and cats can do agility too), pet-only families, and maybe more wild animals (like the deer and raccoons) and ability to adopt them. And I think there were some breeds missing from CAP like labradors? And if it were up to me, we'd have more "fantasy" animals like dragons, gryphons, pegasus, dinosaurs... :D

prettiammie2005

You can't have more than one small pet per terrarium, which kind of sucks cause the terrariums are so huge... so if you want to have a lot of minor pets, you need a cage for each one. It made me sad because I wanted to recreate myself with all my pets, and I have four rats all living together (they're all brothers so they were raised in the same cage and rarely fight)... plus you can only get the one color, which is also sad! Rats come in so many different colors!

Zokugai
27th Oct 2011, 02:44 AM
The pet cages thing is a little weird. For instance, the bird tree lets the bird fly around the house when it's bored or w/e. But only large birds can do it. So if you had a large bird you'd pretty much always (IMO) go with the tree. But the cage is sized for a large bird...so when you put a small bird in the birdcage it's this tiiiiiny little dot alone in the massive cage.

Part of the reason why I wanted to get the Sims Pets was so I could keep myself from going crazy while I wait for my one. So far, I have found that this is only working somewhat. I really really want my bunny!

I totally hear you. My cat has been sick for quite some time and was just recently diagnosed with multipe myeloma. We're trying out chemotherapy right now and we'll see how things go, hopefully she'll feel better and get at least a few more months of enjoying life. Poor little cancer kitty...

I am kinda bummed that the ONLY accessories for our dog friends are collars.... My fur-baby in real life wears a hankerchief around his neck with little bones and such on it, his he's an Australian Shep/Corgi mix, and his name is Scout. When he doesn't have that little hankerchief around his neck he just doesn't look the same, and I'm dissapointed that the only choices for collars so far are just that- collars.

I'd also like to make one of those obbessed diva sims with a scrauny chihuahua that wears a pink sweater and such, but that doesn't seem to be an option either. Pet cloths are definitly one of the major things missing from TS3 Pets!

While I am very impressed by the amount of customization you have in choosing coat coloring, pattern, ect.... I'm almost thinking they put ALL their effort into making as a customizable as possible and slacked off in other departments...

I'm not sure that would be possible, though. I've already seen the collars get all twisted out of shape on some dogbreeds (the EA bulldogs for instance). That'd be so much worse on a bandana.

Veterinarian Career. I was so blasted disappointed when I realized there isn't one. It would have been so simple to do, they wouldn't even need a new rabbithole, just add the option to the hospital. Such an oversight in an EP all about pets. :(

Ahh man, you know what would have been nice? A Petsitter profession. All it really would have needed was a relabeling of the daycare one. Minimum effort.
You know, maybe a modder out there can pull that off? People have tons of custom professions on this site. It really is just a renaming issue. Possibly changing some of the chance cards (if there are any for the Daycare job). It might be a good idea to request this in the proper thread. (I have to go find that thread)

My issues with this EP though... no bunnies, no way to invite those deer & racoons to join your family, and I haven't run into any sort of Opportunities for pets. How awesome would that be? "A pack of wild Chihuahuas have chased one of your best playmates into a tree! He needs help! Will you go save him?" lol. If we have those... then someone tell me how to get them >.> Then of course, the pet shows. Why bother teaching my pet to roll over on command? If I could just show it off for some fancy blue ribbon...

--my other beef with this EP may not so much be an EA issue, but I've realized Peggy's hairs do not work. I'm still searching the forums to see if anyone has found a solution yet. I'm fairly certain its just her hairs, because the ones I've downloaded from other sites seem to be doing okay. Re-textured versions of her hair seem to be working fine too. But nobody re-textures her toddler to child hairs. --- Then again, they worked before PetsEP. So maybe its an EA problem. I believe I recalled someone saying that EA's motto was "send it to them broken, wait for them to fix it, and then break it again." This seems a good example of that.

The way the daycare toddlers and kids work has no relation at all to the way toddlers and kids work when they're not in daycare... it's all scripted fresh for the profession. And, since you couldn't exactly use precisely the same AI for pets, it would have to be coded from scratch.

So, yeah. Maximal effort ;)

And while it's easy enough (thanks largely to tools from Twallan) to mod a CAREER, daycare is not a career, it's a profession like the ambitions ones... so not even remotely straightforward to mod either, though I'd never say it was impossible ;)

Meant minimum effort on EA's part, not on modders' part, if for no other reason than they get paid to do it and we pay for the ability to do it.

Played Sims 2 the other day and found I desperately miss pet careers, too. Nice, simple, rabbithole-style careers where I could send them to work and ignore them all day. My pets spend way too much time at home sleeping on the couch.

Come to think of it, my real pets spend way too much time at home sleeping on the couch, too. Brb signing my dogs and cats up for the showbiz career so they can actually earn their keep for once...

But what really gripes me is that the horse ranches (the places where you can train your horses to jump or race) do not have bathrooms for the people. Aargh, how stupid is that? Of course, the ones in my game all have bathrooms -- but to me that is as lame as forgetting to put lights on your lot. ... come to think of it, I don't think the cat & dog parks had facilities for people either, and the lighting is rather poor on all of them. .

Not necessarily. You cannot CREATE a puppy; however, you can make a male dog & a female dog fall in love and...you know the rest. Alas, a puppy is born (or several)

Also, I think it totally stinks that the Pets do not have the option for careers anymore..it would be nice to send them away as I feel they have little to NOTHING to do. Meh, I expected more out of this EP, seriously :(

Make exactly the ADULT dog you'd want the puppy to grow into, then "clone" it into the opposite gender so they're genetically identical, then set their relationship as mates and breed them when you get them ingame. The resulting offspring should be a match to their parents. Then you can just adopt out the parents/spare siblings.

Not really worth it, imo. They're only puppies for what, four days?

Also, you can follow Zokugai’s instructions, but instead of breeding the adults through normal game play, just use a hack (like Twallan’s master controller) to instantly breed a puppy and then delete the adult dogs. It's much easier.

There's this one mane where they were clearly going for a "only on one side of the neck" look...but it's not. It's actually short on one side and long on the other. Poor horse looks like it got attacked by a toddler wielding those plastic rounded-tip scissors that can't cut anything worth a damn.

there arent any intermediate pet life stages. no 'young adult' for animals, at least.

theres also no preggers morph for when the females get pregnant. you really cant tell unless they get the moodlet...but its so weird, especially for horses. you cant ride the preggo female horse, but there arent any visual clues as to why. >_> basically, pregnancy for animals seems to be that they cant do things that fill their motives easily, but they dont stop having those motive drops either. -_-
(i usually ride my horses to exercise them, or have them do jumping/racing, but. no-go while preggers. lame.)

I was disappointed with the Equestrian outfit, it would be nice if boots went over the bottoms of pants, and if there was a version of the helmet with a ponytail in the back.

Also, it would have been nice if the Horse Carrier actually was a drivable vehicle so you could take your horses longer distances. As it stands I will never see it in game, because that would mean my sims mistreated their horses.

I haven't really had much of a chance with the rest of the expansion yet.

I was just thinking the same thing about small birds, all alone in that massive cage when everyone knows that's kind of cruel because birds are a social animal and should have a friend or two for company. So I'd vote for being able to keep more of the same type of small animal in the same terrarium and an aviary for all your birds large and small. Maybe a bird flight for outside and the chance to breed all your small animals now they can live together so you don't have to chase them down in the wild to replace them. That could play into the idea people have mentioned about having a pet related career, you could set up your own pet shop to sell them to the neighbourhood. How cool would that be?

Well, one thing that Sims 3 lacks in general is Alien Abductions! That was one of my favorite bits in the original Sims. (I never played Sims 2 on the PC.)
But when it comes to Pets, I would've loved to see outfits that your pets could wear. Like those jackets that some people put on greyhounds to keep them warm and things.

First half: TS1 had alien abductions? Am I going senile or did I somehow miss that?

Second half: Modders have already done that. I don't have the link onhand but it's been discussed in the MTS forum and posted on the site.

I agree, we should be able to keep more than one pet in those honking massive tanks. I was thoroughly amazed that EA didn't just copy over the codes from the aquariums and then build from there to include the new small pet interactions. It seemed more simple than building the whole thing from scratch, and it would have let us keep multiple small pets and breed them. Not sure if the aquarium codes are compatible with the terrariums now, but it seems like a good opportunity for a modder.

^^ Also, the dog jackets are here (http://linna.modthesims.info/download.php?t=459422) . :)

I think maybe I'm the one that's senile, I thought they had it, but it was so long ago that I might have paired it with playing the Sims 2 on PS2. I remember at some point in the sims before Sims 3, that was my favorite part of the game. :faceslap:
And yes, I found the sweaters on this site. I downloaded it so that my preppy sim can have her Chihuahua in a sweater!

After checking, you are correct, Sims 1 had alien abductions. No pollination, but it randomized the personality. It's been a looooong time since Sims 1 for me.
