Was anyone tempted to type in this box in their profile?

Many people have filled it in. However, it's a rather foolish thing to do, as it is an anti-spam measure (spambots usually fill in all profile fields with the same thing) and those who fill it in may be banned for doing so.

I like that whole "if you fill this in you are a spambot thing" better than the countless numbers of really hard reCAPTCHAS.

Yeah, I think the recaptchas have been getting harder in the last couple years. They've started to included non-standard characters and a lot of them are badly obscured. It's great that recaptcha helps transcribe old works, but there are some cases where context makes all the difference.

Yeah those things are ridiculous sometimes. One time they stopped me from registering at a website just because I couldn't read it. And I mean that captcha was so twisted >.>

I was tempted, but ultimately didn't since I wanted to actually be able to post here. Ha ha.

I have never noticed that box, I am glad I never did because that would be temptation. Some reCAPTCHAS are great and do serve a purpose... ... Of telling if someone is any sort of color blind or not. >_< Glad most sites have gone to black and white. But seriously the pie figure, or chinese charaters? Swear it's and IQ test. If you tempt it, you fail.

I agree, I usually have to press that redo button about 5 times just to get one I can see.

I keep inputting the wrong password when attempting to check my mail in my Hotmail account, and then it asks me to retry but also input the characters in a recaptcha thing. I hate them so much that I just give up, and never check my mail.

I always get foreign characters that I'm too American to type in.

I was a little tempted, but I'm a bit of a stickler to the rules.

It's a nice security measure, but it just saying "If you fill this in, you are a spambot" catches too much curiosity. They should say something like "This is the spambot box, if you fill this in, your account will automatically, and permanently get banned."
I think that's reasonable. lol

I must get all of the easy reCAPTCHA thing. I've only had to retry it once.

Then that''s a field word you can type any word you want in there. I think that's the most useful thing I've ever gotten from my years on 4chan... : \ oh well. I added a link to the captcha thing below.
( follow link at own risk, includes nword, but it is an interesting article. (http://www.funnyjunk.com/funny_pictures/2422600/OPERATION+reNIGGER/))

I think that's rather spiteful. reCAPTCHA isn't using you as slave labor, it's taking a step that would have to be performed anyway and making it useful. Rather than being a massive waste of time, it optimizes our potential. It helps to store the breadth of human knowledge and culture in a format that will hopefully better last the test of time.
EDIT: Also, if you read this article (http://www.cracked.com/article_19453_6-reasons-were-in-another-book-burning-period-in-history.html), you will probably simultaneously be horrified and understand the real importance of digital storage.

Anyone ever try replacing the second word with anything else?

That's what the post Undercovers linked to was about.

Yeah, it works all the time, I just don't know a site other than 4chan that requires it everytime you post, and I'm not going to link 4chan to this site.

^Yeah. Please don't. I've got enough nightmare fuel to last the month. 0_0 (Disregarding the fact that you can just google/visit it yourself if you're truly interested... meh).

On YouTube spambots will give you a private message saying to go to subs4subs.com. They are VERY annoying. Even if you put in "Please don't PM me saying to go to subs4subs" they'll do it anyway. Ugh :(

I just don't know why there's a question mark at the end.. Is it to trick the bots into thinking it's a question they need to fill in...? :|

KayVoorhees, maybe to trick them so they can be banned from the site.
