It's that time of year again (and I didn't see any threads)... Anybody made some New Year's resolutions?
So far mine are:
-Graduate and survive college :P
-Get a paid job, not just summer volunteer work
-Lose weight
-Try some different types of art (I really want to try vector art)
What are yours?

- Survive first year studying abroad.
- Be more thrifty.
- Get 9 A's on my report card.
The last one seems almost impossible, though.

- Run a marathon ( I went from 0 to 10km in 3 months this summer).
- Get a six pack within the next 12 months (I lost 15 lbs this year, tend too keep it off and get me more cut)
- Completely pay off my credit card.
- Complete drivers license.
- Get the 50% pay raise that comes with my promotion.
I only set realistic goals for myself this year.

- Get into a good graduate school
- Do more lab work
- Lose weight
- Read more books and journal articles (as opposed to reading layman's articles on the internet that process and simplify everything)
- Get a drivers license and start saving for a car
And, if I can find time while doing all that other stuff, maybe actively try dating. I've never dated and I'm getting to the point where I'm really longing for close companionship; I'm normally a bit too much of a recluse to really meet people during my normal routine, so I'll have to actually make some kind of change to try to meet people. I'll probably try online dating, since I imagine it would be easier to find and connect with someone amid a larger pool.

Learning to drive again. I became almost entirely wheelchair bound nearly three years ago, started learning to drive with hand controls but then got really sick and have never quite got back to it.
Finishing my rug in the next 2 months - I bought a latch rug kit without actually looking at how big it was. I just chose it based on the design and when it turned up I realised that it was nearly 4x3'

- Finish and get my doll printed by the end of next year
- Keep the house in good condition - doesn't have to be perfectly clean, but ideally, in a state where if someone dropped by I wouldn't be horrified
- Sew at least one new dress/outfit per month, so that I can switch over my wardrobe entirely to vintage-inspired clothing and stop wearing these stupid, boring, modern clothes.

My curiosity is peaked: What is this? And...sew an outfit a month? That's ambitious! I think I only know one woman who sews that amount or more - she's in college learning either dressmaking or costuming or something very similar.
My own resolutions have to do with making more of an effort to stay connected to people I care about and getting a handle on the disorderly mess that is my home. I can't find anything and it would be so helpful to be able to lay my hands on certain documents or books when I'm looking for them. I also want to incorporate exercise into my week more frequently and do something to nourish my inner self - drawing, meditating, or journaling. I haven't decided on which form that would take; it doesn't matter so long as I spend more time with my creative, reflective side for my own sense of balance.

I'm not sure I can keep all my promise, but I sure hope I will be able to:
- Get 4.0 GPA this semester
- Find a new accommodation
- Be more serious in my studies
- Understand deeper the 'absolute truth'
- Start evangelizing

Why can I now see HP wearing something like http://www.retronaut.co/wp-content/uploads/2011/02/Plate-58.-A-ball-dress-of-embroidered-muslin.-1850-60.jpg
Now I can't even find the dress I was looking for for a reference, oh well.. High-waist Leather Skirt and Blouse far off? :)

-Stay motivated throughout the entire semester; not start out strong and then stop caring toward the end.
-Graduate College
-Save up for a post-graduation road trip of some sort
-Get my last essay published
Aaaaand what I'll actually accomplish:
-Graduate... probably.

Get a good, well-paying fulltime job to last me the year
Find reasonably priced housing in Melbourne for when I move there next year
Commit to a large, long term writing project
Lose a couple of extra kilos and get fit
Finally get my arse into gear and cut my hair short, donating what I cut off to be made into wigs
Begin to eliminate meat from my diet
Thankfully, none of mine are too outrageous nor improbable...apart from the writing goal :S

You should definitely do this. I *just* donated my hair to Locks of Love and it was a wonderful feeling.

*sighs wistfully*
- Finally get rid of my acne...
- Get through another year of high school (If its the best years of my life, well...)
- Try to think of some other mushy stuff to post for MTS
- Realize that I go better with sarcasm

I love your post, your humor is so dry :)
You know, high school isn't the best for everyone. Most people I know feel that life improves sometime after graduation. Although there are things you can get involved with that might make your time there more enjoyable (hint: clubs, activities, etc...).

To stop caring about what other people think. I made a similar resolution two years ago, when I said I was going to stop agreeing to things that I really didn't want to do just because I didn't want to say no or upset someone and start living for myself instead, and although I stuck to it for a while I think it's fallen by the wayside recently.
I'd like to take up running again, but realistically I know I'm not going to do that because I haven't got the time so best not to count it as a resolution so I don't have to face failure within the first week of the new year.

@Pixcii I tried slowly weening into being vegetarian four/five years ago, but I never really went far. But I eventually decided one day to just go off it compleatly, and I've been a vegetarion for four years now :). But whatever works for you, I've found that I'm a lot healther snce becoming a vegetarian.
- Get fit, and loose the extra 2-3 kilos I need to.
- Experiment more with my drawing, and learn to use the drawing tablet better
- Save up for a desktop computer
- Do push-ups and weights every day
- Continue to ride my bike/swim in the local pool every day
- Stay in touch with all of my mates from the school I left this year
- Make some new friends next year!

But I eventually decided one day to just go off it compleatly, and I've been a vegetarion for four years now :). But whatever works for you, I've found that I'm a lot healther snce becoming a vegetarian. I'm primarily just easing myself into vegetarianism for my mother's sake. She does the majority of the cooking in the house, and my parents and older brother are both keen meat eaters, so easing myself into it will (hopefully!) make the process easier for her.

Perhaps you could do some of the cooking or make a few dishes to go on the table with hers. I think, over time, my mom started to like coming up with casseroles that my sisters and I could eat. But she'd often mess up, as many non-vegetarians do and miss the fact that if you add chicken broth or Worchester sauce to a dish, it is no longer vegetarian. Since it's not their diet, it's easy to forget.

I'll probably end up doing that, or just trying to get my family onto a more vegetarian diet by cooking the whole meal when I get time. This is my last year at home before I move away for university, so it'll just be a temporary adjustment for the family.

Maybe. Maybe you'll start something :)
In any case, you'll still come home for visits during college and afterwards throughout your life. My mom ended up trying some of the recipes out of one of my books and making them her signature recipes - honestly, I never tried them. One was a broccoli stuffed rolled up thing done in a jelly pan. It was delicious!
One of the best recipe books I got was a cheap one - a "Sunset" publication. I've tried more of the recipes from that book and have kept more of them in my life than almost any other. My sister still insists that I make eggplant lasagna for every family event.

It is. Rather than continue this childish game of, "I'm not apologizing unless you apologize first." I'm just choosing to be the bigger person and put all of our differences behind us. I'm definitely starting 2012 on a very good note, anyone else?

Hmm, let's see...
Get my mental issues fully under control. Whether with medication, time or... even therapy *shudders*, they will be under control by 2013/the end of the world. I will not go another year like last year, nor will I go out without my sanity.
Get out of the house more. I was cooped up in here for over a year until July of last year. Since then, I've gotten out at least once a week, but that's still not enough.
Spend less time on the internet.
Read more. I love to read, but I just haven't been doing so very much anymore. I have a huge list of books I want to read, too.
Work on my Italian more/at least once a week to start. I've been slacking terribly, and I'm beginning to forget things. At this rate, I'm not going to learn the language, much less get a grade for it.
Maybe travel a bit more. Actually, maybe travel.. I don't know, AT ALL? My family and I haven't taken a pleasant trip anywhere farther than 3 hours (the 3-hour trip was to a hospital to get my mind fixed. Not pleasant.) in years. I want to go to San Francisco and San Diego.
Come to terms with the fact that we most likely will be moving. This is a short-term thing, but still. I have to accept the fact that we might be leaving our 10.5 year house.
That's all I can think of for now.
