View Full Version : Build mode lag

I'm trying to build on a 64x64 lot (it has to be this size to fit the science dome) but every time I place even 1 unit of wall the game freezes for about 15 seconds. It is getting on my nerves. I've tried removing mods. Disabling CC, lowering the games graphics to minimum, taking the game out of full screen mode and resetting the computer. But build mode still lags when I try to place walls. I have WA and ambitions expansion packs. Does anyone know how to fix this lag so I can continue with my project of building the crystal maze?( the science dome is required to be used as the crystal dome)

I have only just noticed this today. Last week I had no problems when building on a 64x64 lot.

Can you post your system specs?

Sadly no. I don't understand system specs so I wouldn't know what any of it means. But I haven't had issues before. As I said above I have built on 64x64 lots before without lag.

You can find instructions, including a fancy little form, used in the yanking out of system specs here: Game Help:System Specs. :)

What do you mean by resetting your computer?

Do you have the same problem building on other lots in that town? How about similar lots in other towns? I know you say you haven't had problems before, but that still doesn't tell us everything about what you've tried before. :)

Do you have the same problem with a completely vanilla game - that is, renming the TS3 folder in Documents to reset the game (temporarily) to 'factory settings'? That's one of the steps in the Game Help:Sims 3 Game Problem guide, in case you've not already been through that.

Ok. By resetting my computer I ment turning it off. Then turning back on. It didn't work.

On blank 64x64 lots I didn't get any lag but I save my lot to my library and when I build on it in another town there is still lag. However I went back on the lot where I didn't have lag and there still is no lag.

I am trying the vanilla game now. I've changed the name of the folder to the sims 3 backup and will attempt to build the exact same lot as before. (fingers crossed I can get my saved games, mods and custom content back.)

Update: in playing the vanilla game I,ve noticed the lag only appears when I build in a 60x60 ish house but when I remove one panel of wall the lag went away. Putting that panel back restores the lag.I am going to test on my main game and if it works we can close this thread.

Final update: on my main game making sure that there are no compleat rooms has removed the lag. Therefore my problem has been resolved.(I'll put the missing walls in after I have built the structure of my maze)

You might want to be sure that "autoroof" is turned off if it's lagging once you complete a room and the new roof with accompanying shadows is added.

You might also want to read http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:System_Specs to see if your computer is really designed to run Sims 3 for a long period of time.

And http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=Game_Help:Your_Computer_is_Like_a_Car if it has any components that are listed as "no" or "maybe"

To be honest it's only when I have one huge room. But chances at having a lot of small rooms will also cause the lag. If I start getting lag on lots that I was previously able to build lag free on. Then i'll know my computer is dying.
