In other neighborhoods, Dora was always a household slave, selflessly cooking and cleaning and teaching and encouraging, right up to the moment when she dropped down dead. In this neighborhood, I resolved not to play the Ottomas family. They are ugly, Peter is a slob, Samanatha is so irritating she has me shouting at the screen, and I really do not want to see again the twins she is carrying. It's no good leaving them in the sim bin: they will walk into the game anyway; so I settled them in a house, then left them.

The centre of this neighborhood is a Legacy family, whose founder has a constant wish to Sell a Great Novel. He wrote two, but the phone never rang, so no money arrived. Was it a glitch? I tried removing the Downloads folder, then restoring half, then all; it was no good. It was time to call in Super Dora, with her seven creativity points. She withdrew from the Ottomas house, and set up in a cottage to become a novelist. She finished writing 'Follow Your Heart' - and the phone rang. Bless you, you fat old lady! Just to prove it was not a fluke, she wrote 'Animal Emotions', and now she is quite rich. She spends her money on bookshelves and recliners, and is currently plotting a mystery called 'After Sherlock'. More power to your keyboard, Dora!

A few minutes after her first royalty cheque arrived, Peter and Samantha walked onto the lot. Did they want her company, her service or her $2,300? Whatever they wanted, they were disappointed. She's doing very nicely on her own, thank you!

I like the Ottomases. The first time I played them I didn't have enough experience to keep her alive very long, and she died while potty-training one of the twins. When she came back as a ghost the first thing she did was scare him and make him wet himself. So she became the first ghost in Drama Acres Memorial Park. I like the Ottomases; I loooove Ted, the twin she traumatized. Ten nice points, and he uses them all.

I'm doing the Ottomases completely differently in Strangetown. I gave Dora Ottomas a Romance secondary. She's very friendly indeed with PT9, which has kept her mood up. And David is Gramma's Boy - she rolls wants to teach him to study, to play with him, and so on. She wears shorts and a short hairstyle, and can be seen out and about a lot, sizing up the local talent in the Romance secondary department.

What is Romance "Secondary"?

i've always been able to keep her alive in every 'hood and with all of the vaca/maternity leave days she's accumulated she basically is home until her brood is grown to the teen stage.

Even with all of her responsibilities she never turns down her husband whenever he rolls woo-hoo which is like every 5 minutes! She's a saint.

If you have Freetime, you have the ability to give a Sim a Secondary Aspiration. So it sounds like Peni has given her the Secondary of Romance in addition to her Family primary.

Large families drive me up the wall so I leave the Ottomas family in the bin.

Dora is the grandmother -- you're thinking of Samantha.

I'm looking forward to playing the Ottomas family, especially Dora. I'm curious to see how she gets along with PT9 -- and if Jenny takes a page from her friend Nervous's book ("I Don't Like You: Nervous Subject's Guide to Conflict Management") and decides to kick her down the block for the terrible crime of making eyes at her husband -- and especially how she gets along with Strangetown's poisonous grande dame Olive Reaper.

(My copy of Seasons is going to arrive in a few days! :giggler: )

I give Samantha a Romance secondary, too...and Peter a family secondary...I'm really sold on that combo for this particular family.

Dora Ottomas may not triple bolt PT9 in your hood, Aegagropilon, and she may not be a vixen; but then again, what she does in mine she could in yours. I don't remember (and I just closed the game) if I gave her any Romance perks, but I expect I did. Do you know, I've played through Wednesday and I don't think she's met Olive yet? They both wander around town, Dora cruising the silverhairs and Olive picking fights with the young folks; you'd think their paths would've crossed in such a small town. But I don't think either one of them finds other old women intrinsically interesting.

It's a very tricky family to play, because you don't have any time to get to know them before the twins get born, but with all your experience, I'm sure you'll breeze through it. Just for heaven's sake patch it immediately! Which I know you know to do, but the consequences of not patching are just so dire!

Oooops! Thanks for the gentle correction. I love Dora! I always make a point of getting her into her own place as soon as possible. I give her a makeover (she's a hot looking gramma) and a cute little house. Of course, she loves her grandkids and babysits for them occasionally when she's not working or out on a hot date.

This thread is really making me want to go and play them! I never have before i've also been wary of them for being such a large family and just because all of the horror stories ive heard! (I am all patched up but still slightly apprehensive.) I wonder if theres room for them in Pleasantview hmmmm.

Do it, do it, do it. That first week of Ottomasing will keep you on your toes like you've never been in this game before. The only other premade family that approaches them for challenge is the Newsons.

Bless you, you fat old lady!

I don't actually mind the Ottomases, but if I'm honest I've never particularly paid any interest to Dora before...I'm usually just waiting for her to drop dead. But actually it sounds like it could be fun to play Dora by herself, give her a life of her own, maybe a boyfriend...or three!

Oh, you gotta play Dora. She may not win any fashion shows but she's got a ton of character. My Dora's an early feminist--whichever hood she's in.

Oh now you make me want to play them again!
Every hood should have an Ottomas house (it does LOL)
They may not win any beauty awards but that family sure is fun to play

In this household do you by chance set the phone to screen calls? I don't think the phone rings after you complete a novel if the phone is set to screen calls. I'm not sure about turn off phone, I never use that one.

Edit: Sorry, I just checked one of my houses with the phone on screen calls and the phone still rang, I was wrong. However, tested again, this time with the phone turned off and it didn't ring when the sim completed their novel.

I think I only touched this family once and gave up after trying to make them over! Maybe I'll pull them up again in Veronaville. I can check who the baby daddy is and if not I'll ACR abort the kid. I'm working too hard to do anything that causes extra corruption! I love big families. Just moved the big Capp family in.

If you patch Seasons before you play the Ottomas' then Peter will be the father of the twins (ACR shows she's pregnant with twins for about 30 or 33 hours.)

You have to patch Seasons before the Ottomas family is added to your neighborhood family bin. Once it has been added to the bin, the bug is in your neighborhood, even if they have not been moved into a lot yet.

It's all right, I solved that one, with a little help from my friends here. It turned out that the legacy lot was glitched, so I had to move the family out and build it again. They all write best-sellers now.
