View Full Version : Wants/fears bug

I have been having an annoying wants/fears bug recently. All of a sudden, some wants and/or fears are not there. There might be, for example, 2 wants and 1 fear, or 3 wants and no fears or something like that. The missing want/fear is not an icon problem, since those slots are blue, not red or green. For some sims in a family, all the wants and fears might be there at a time, and for others not, but the next day that may change. Also this happens in (almost?) every family I'm playing with so it's not a bugged lot problem.
When I have the testingcheats-cheat enabled, I get this error message, I suppose it comes every time the wants and fears should be changed.
Object error: Error occurred in object "Wants - Controller" #93, Error: Illegal owner field in data reference. Stack trace saved in ...
Sometimes cancel works, but not all the time, then I have to click reset.
Does anyone know what that means?

What hacks did you download - because I'm experiencing this, too, and it is most certainly tied to a hack. Did you happen to download Pescado's nogizmowants hack? He has updated it. I don't have twojeffs' no gizmo wants hack (it's a similar one).

I had this problem too, 50% of my sims in normal neighborhoods had this problem. I put an old save in from before I installed University. I noticed one hack wasn't there and it may be the cause of it. Its the Censor blur removal hack, the one that goes in the startup area. So far all of my sims are working fine again (mostly because I've been playing ONLY in University since I got it). I had to export and import all my University YA's to keep them because the entire Neighborhood file was bad (Downloads was fine, it the N001 folder was the one that was bad).
Look in your Config folder, should be next to the Downloads folder if you have one, if you have a file called Userstartup.cheat. Try removing it, its the file I DLed awhile back when University came out and they re-enabled the blur. It may be the reason behind it, it may not be. All I know is that After I re-added my old save file, all my sims work and this was before I DLed that file.

I don't think this is a hack related problem, since, as with most of my bugs in the game, this only happens in the main neighbourhood where I have played the most. I tried playing in another neighbourhood with only a few sims and lots, and I have no problems there.
I'll try removing the gizmohack, though. I have a nogizmowants.package, though I can't remember by whom that was.

Its a very annoying bug.. renders the family totally useless because without having wants, their aspiration will eventually hit the red zone. I had to reload a old saved folder in order to play and so far no problems happened yet.
