Welcome to the MTS Foundations Contest! This is intended as a fun contest that anyone can join - even if you don't think you're a great builder/decorator! Challenge yourself, and see what fun stuff others come up with, too!

Please do not post an entry on this thread if you are not on the contestant list! You must be a Round 1 contestant to continue to rounds 2, 3, and 4. However, you can still post your entry in the Chat Thread!

The Foundations Rules - What You May Build:

You are building a residential lot, on the foundation given. One foundation per round - four foundations total, so you'll be building four houses for this contest, one per week.

While you are welcome to get as creative as you want in structure and style, you may not touch the foundation (besides adding textures to it) - you have to build around it. It's the "footprint" of the lot.

Your house should have, at least:

A living room

A kitchen

A bathroom

Minimum 1 bedroom

You can build more than that if you like and have room for it - if you want to make it a 6 bedroom house with a rec room and study and garage (or whatever you want), go for it - you may not be able to show off everything for the contest though.

You may build as many stories up as you want - it can be a single level house or more, your choice.

You CANNOT add a basement, as this may require modification of the foundation. No, you can't add a WA non-foundation basement either.

You do not have to cover the entire foundation in walls - if you want to leave part as a porch or whatever, you may.

You may use build cheats such as constrainFloorElevation and moveObjects as long as you do not modify the foundation with them. It must stay the same height and shape.

You may not use split levels to extend or modify the footprint of the lot as an alternative to using foundations. Nor can you do floating floor tiles to extend the footprint. The supplied foundation is the footprint you must use - that's why it's the theme of the contest, and not just "build whatever you want on a 30x30". ;)

You may not rotate the foundation on the lot, or put it on a larger lot. It needs to stay on a 30x30, with the front as shown in the images (bottom of the picture is the front of the lot).

You can add a carport, garage, pool, gazebo, etc., as long as it does not modify the foundation, and as long as it doesn't add additional buildable living space - if you add an attached garage, for instance, it needs to just be for the parking space, and you can't build rooms on top of it attached to the main house.

There is no limit on the price of the lot in-game.

Your Pictures:

You'll need to be taking pictures of your lots you've built so we can see what you've made. Please make sure these images are AT LEAST 800x600 pixels so we can see them clearly. You may use larger images if you wish.

Photoshopping: This contest is focusing on your building and decorating skills - not your Photoshopping skills. For this reason, please do not do any significant modifications to your pictures in Photoshop or similar image editors - you may crop, add a little text, borders, etc... but please keep it to an absolute minimum.

Required Pics: For each round, you will be doing several pictures. Please do not collage your pictures together.

You may move sims into the house to make picture taking easier. The sims may appear in the pictures if you want - or not, it's up to you.

The pics you need are:

Street View: One picture of the lot from the outside, from the front, with all the levels showing, from a sim's eye view.

Floor Plans: One picture of each level of the lot, from a high overhead view. If you have multiple levels, you may post these collaged together into a single image, or as separate images - your choice.

Living Room: One picture of the living room, from a sim's eye view.

Kitchen: One picture of the kitchen, from a sim's eye view.

Bedroom: One picture of one of the bedrooms, from a sim's eye view.

Three Bonus Pics: You may post up to three additional photos of whatever part of your lot you want to show off - another one of the bedrooms, a cute bathroom, the garden, whatever. These can also be additional angles of the living room, kitchen, or bedroom. Whatever you want.

Custom Content:

To focus on your skills at building and decorating and not your downloadaholicism, we're giving you a limit: No more than 10 pieces of custom content used on each lot! And there's a scoring bonus for using no CC (see below).

If you DO use CC... you'll need to list what CC you've used, so we can count up for scoring - you don't have to have a link/credit, just indicate that it is CC, i.e. "CC used: Dining chair, dining table, custom pattern on table and chair"

A "piece" of custom content is: One particular item in the catalog. You can use any particular item as many times as you want and it still just counts as one. For example, one custom dining chair, used four times, would be 1 piece. Using its matching custom table would make it 2 pieces. Applying a custom pattern to them would make it 3 pieces. A custom counter and its matching island, and overhead cabinet would be 3 pieces.

EP/SP/Store content: Does NOT count as CC. You may use any items from the base game, World Adventures, Ambitions, High End Loft Stuff, and/or the Store content. As long as it's official stuff, you can use it as much as you like with no scoring penalty. We realize this may give a bit of an advantage to people with more official stuff, but it's just too much of a pain to score otherwise.

Free/Pay: Doesn't matter for this contest. While we always encourage people to use free content and support free sites, if you choose to use CC, you may use pay items for this contest. Of course, if you would like to upload your house to MTS when the contest is over, make sure you use all free stuff!

Scoring Bonuses: For using no CC or low CC, there is a scoring bonus for each round. See the "scoring" section below for details.

Scoring:

Scoring will be as follows. Point values are maximums for each category:

Structure - Interesting architecture, unique interior layout, uses the foundation well, good roofing, etc. - 10 points.

Decor/Furnishings - Well decorated and furnished (furniture, paintings, etc.) inside and out - 10 points.

Landscaping - Trees, bushes, plants, ponds, etc. which add to the look of the lot - 10 points.

Theme - Lot has a cohesive theme or style which works together with the architecture. You may choose any theme or style you want (even if that's just "contemporary"), but try to keep it somewhat consistent through the house - 10 points.

Aesthetic - Attractive, nice colours, good flow, looks pretty - 10 points.

Presentation - Good pictures, good angles, well-presented, interesting text descriptions - 10 points.

Wow Factor - Not just a house but a really GREAT house, over and above anyone's expectations - 10 points.

Custom Content Used - Maximum of 10 pieces. Scoring bonus for using none - 20 points:

No CC: 20 points
1 piece: 10 points
2: 9
3: 8
4: 7
5: 6
6: 5
7: 4
8: 3
9: 2
10: 1

At the end of all of the rounds, we will add up each participant's score for all the rounds (your total score). Whoever has the highest score wins. :)

Eliminations:

This is a NO ELIMINATION contest. This means that even if you have the lowest score in a round, you can still continue with the contest. While there will be a winner and runners-up, the main point of this contest is to be a fun challenge to your building and decorating skills.

Judging:

Judging will be done by MTS staff and will be scored based on various points (detailed above).

Judge comments are optional - judges are not required to make comments, but they may if they wish. PM me after scores are posted for each round if you would like me to PM you your judge comments.

Prizes:

We're offering a few fun little prizes for those who get the top scores:

First Place: A one-time change of custom user title (of your choice), a specially-created unique avatar, and a "Contest Winner!" achievement on your profile.
Second & Third Place: A specially-created unique avatar.

All contest participants will get an achievement for doing so (including those with the highest scores).

If you would like to donate an additional prize to the winners, please PM me. :)

Time Period/Duration:

Round 2 of the contest begins today, as soon as I have it posted up. Each round lasts 1 week from the time of the round being posted - round 2 will go a little bit longer, to stay on the original Thursday schedule. There will be a total of four rounds, with a different foundation to build on each round, so the contest will last 4 weeks (if no extensions are given). Extensions will only be given if more than 20% of participants ask for more time to finish up their entries.

How to Enter

Want to enter this contest? Great! Even though Round 1 has finished, even if you didn't get a spot in the contest, you can still participate in the Chat Thread!

1. Download and install the lot, attached to the third post in this thread. Double-click the sims3pack, open the Launcher and make sure it's properly installed to your game.

2. Load up the game, and place the lot from the lot bin into your neighborhood, on any 30x30 lot. There's at least a few in Sunset Valley.

3. Build your lot. Remember the rules above - the footprint of the house you build has to stay the same as the foundation - no adding or removing any part of the foundation or changing the footprint by other means. Build it up and finish it like you would any lot - walls, furnishings, lights, plants, beds, paintings, etc., in any theme or style of your choosing.

4. Take the required pictures and up to three bonus pictures (listed above) to the best of your abilities. Don't Photoshop them too severely (if at all).

5. Upload the pictures to any image host - Tinypic (http://www.tinypic.com), Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com), Flickr (http://www.flickr.com), or Modyourpanties (http://www.modyourpanties.com:8080/).

6. Start a new reply post here on this thread - click Go Advanced, and you can just click the little "Insert Image" icon in the toolbar, or just copy-paste the image location into some [img] tags. Make sure you put all your required images.

7. Write a description for your lot. How much you write, what you write, and formatting is entirely up to you - you can write captions for each picture, or a blurb at the beginning, or both, or whatever, as long as there is some text to go along with your lot. Make sure to mention somewhere in the text whether or not you've used CC - and if you have, what items are CC and how many there are. This will make scoring a lot easier for the staff!

8. Submit your post - doing so will submit your entry. If you need to edit or make changes to your post, you may, up until the time limit for the round. After that, no changes may be made to your entry.

Chat Thread

If you won't be able to participate in all four rounds, didn't get a spot for round 1, or don't want to follow the rules exactly, or just want to build but not compete, or just want to chat about the entries, please post in our Chat Thread (http://www.modthesims.info/showthread.php?t=412324)!

Good luck, and happy simming!

Contest entries are now closed - you can not enter anymore! Very sorry if you missed out - but you can still post your entries in the Chat Thread. Whoever gets the most "agrees" per round (by the time each round is closed - and this won't happen early from now on!) will get a special mention in the contest. :)

Attached is a sims3pack containing Foundation #2, as well as a top-down view of that foundation. It is on a 30x30 lot (as all the foundations for this challenge will be) so it should be easy to place in your existing neighborhood.

Please note that the front of the lot is the bottom of the image shown - see the sidewalk at the bottom of the image? When you place the lot in-game, make sure that side is the front! There will be a scoring penalty if you get the lot the wrong way 'round.

Round 2 ends on Thursday, July 29th at 10:00 AM CEST!

You have about a week and a half for this round to get in your entry for this round - this is to get back to the Thursday schedule we had originally planned. Later rounds will begin and end on Thursday, for a total of 1 week.

You probably won't, but I figure it'll give everyone a nice amount of time to work on things at their leisure - especially after the rush to get in on round 1, I figure it'll give ya a bit more time to enjoy the building process rather than OH GOD MUST POST NOW! ;)

Yes thank you, let us have the week, I have to stay in my office the whole day as well as a lot of other simmers and, well, unfortunately I'm a slow builder :)

HP, the R2 fundation looks really challenging!

The good thing of staying in a work meeting, provided that I'm not who's speaks, is that I can draw some idea while others talk, you know, those weird designs we all draw on our blocknotes when we are particularly interested ...

Oh crap, I just found that out! LOL. I have floating tiles in my first home. How did I miss that??!?

By the way, how the heck are we expected to use the three foundation squares in the front if you cant use floating tiles? Every single home entered would have the same thing there. Pillars or something? Each home would be too similar in that aspect. Not too excited there!

(Now I have to start over in this round... I used floating tiles again!)

By HP at foundation 1 thread, the rules (http://modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3245724&postcount=1):
"You may not use split levels to extend or modify the footprint of the lot as an alternative to using foundations. Nor can you do floating floor tiles to extend the footprint. The supplied foundation is the footprint you must use - that's why it's the theme of the contest, and not just "build whatever you want on a 30x30". "

If someone has done so in their houses at the first round, they should, in all fairness, be disqualified from the round 1 and therefore not be able to take part in rounds 2-4.

Of course this is just my opinion, but the rules were quite clear, and questions answered in the thread 1.
If there is something wrong with my own lot (which I don't think), then my journey ends here too.

One question. if we place pillars on the three foundation pieces can we then make a veranda on top of them on the first floor that are connected to the house? Or do we have to use them just for decoration?

HystericalParoxysm
19th Jul 2010, 4:53 PM
You can extend upper levels to make overhangs, but doing so on the lower levels basically negates the whole idea of using the foundation as the limitations.

You -can- do it - you won't get disqualified for it, but you will definitely lose points for doing so.

well, what I think about the "floating tiles" rule is that no sim should be able to step over any part of the house that is not above a piece of the given foundation. so, in my house there are lots of decorative structures, but no sim can get up those. :duck: :duck: :duck: also, I placed some [a lot of] friezes, but again, they're over the given footprint, or they can't be stepped over.

However, here's my entry:

Das [Bau]Haus
http://img837.imageshack.us/img837/6484/screenshot2e.jpg
It is a 1 bedroom, 2 bathrooms house, with a unique day space, including Kitchen, Dining room and Living room. It has been built around the first '30s near Waisims, in the middle of the countryside, and has stayed almost unmodified since then, except for some internal renewals, such as an improvement of the hydraulic system and the complete re-building of the backyard, previously non-existing, with the addiction of a pool area and a, external dining space. The peculiar features of this house reflect the ideas of the "BauHausim" movement, that are the employing of armed concrete and of its all-new possibilities, such the lighter and thinner walls, and the constant presence of glass surfaces. Another unique feature is the texture of the bed sheets and of the hall rug, original creation of the Sim-crafter of Waisims. However, quality & uniqueness have their price: this piece-of-art comes §212.974 furnished and §99.497 unfurnished, but, if you consider yourself a wealthy person with some taste, I'd recommend you to buy the whole furnished house; it wouldn't be the same without the especially designed pieces, and, plus, you'd live in a chunk of History!

(No CC used!)

You are allowed to use all items from the EA store. Such as EPs or stuff bought individually from the store. But stuff made by users (like that can be downloaded from this site and others not hosted by EA) may not be used.

Hello.

This is my entry for Round 2 :)

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-3.jpg?t=1279558660

Modern Bloom follows the lines of Modern breeze (http://www.modthesims.info/showpost.php?p=3247240&postcount=51) which is my entry for the Round 1.
I was originally going to make it blue too, but then Flabs suggested I should use the same textures on the exterior but change the colors, so I did.
Thank you Flabaliki for that idea :)

I used items from Base game and World Adventures, I didn't use any CC or Store items.

Still.... I'm no story teller, so I'll just give you the rest of the pictures :D

Here are 2 of the 3 allowed extra shots, they are of exterior:

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-4.jpg?t=1279558636
http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-5.jpg?t=1279558636

Then the floorplans. I didn't take a picture of all layers, since I used CFE when building. These pictures show the structure and the layout of the house well enough.

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-2.jpg?t=1279558660

Here is the kitchen:

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-6.jpg?t=1279558636

And the livingroom:

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-8-1.jpg?t=1279558636

The bedroom:

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-7-1.jpg?t=1279558636

I had difficulties on deciding should I take a picture of the study, or the seating area, I'm a little sad I can't post both, cause I like how they turned out. But enough of sadness, here is the extra shot 3, of 1st floor seating area:

http://i1017.photobucket.com/albums/af300/armielsims/MTS%20challenge%20pictures/Screenshot-9-1.jpg?t=1279558636

I hope you like this house, I had fun building it. Wasn't as fast as the Round one, build time prox. 7 hours.
I'm already anxiously waiting for the results of Round 1 and the foundation of Round 3 :D

Title for this house is equally as creative as the previous... lol

Great fun to build once I'd figured out what the hell I could actually build on the foundation that looked remotely normal!

Its got the usual, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms (1 bath 1 shower), kitchen/diner, living room, and a study-nook type thing on the landing. There's 3 terraces on the property, the one at the front has seating on it. The one leading from the downstairs bathroom (weird I know) has vegetables and stuff growing on it, and the one leading from the utility room has the bin and access to the garden. There's a carport at the front as well.

Photo's? Oh ok then... :P

I finally got to finish my creation for Round 2 : ) It was a rainy day, so my other plans got cancelled and I had time to work on this for a long time today. At first I tried to make a traditional house but after all the shape of the foundation seemed to be better for a modern house.

The Archy

This modern themed house was built in 2007 by a succesful bussinesman called Andy Goder, who used it as his summer home. However during the financial chrisis, which took place in 2009, Andy's company went bankruptcy so he put his house on market.

Now this lovely burgundy/white coloured house is for sale. The price demand isn't that high as Andy is desperate to sell his house.

The Blue Eyesore

Hello! This is my entry for the second foundation contest. This lot is called "The Blue Eyesore" and I think you can tell why. The story behind this house is when I was looking for a theme of the house, I saw this pattern in the Rock & Stone section and I was like "What if I made a completely blue house?!" So I did. This is how it turned out:

Features:

Completely Blue Exterior
Pond
2 Bedrooms
1 Large (Completely Red) Bathroom
Open Layout
1 Floor

**NO CC (Only Store Items)**

Now here are the Pictures.

trench, hate to say it, but... you aren't a contestant in round 2 - you aren't on the list in post 2. Please re-read the first post again, and if you want to post your house in the chat thread, please do so.

Just to re-iterate:

Please only post up a lot if you are a contestant and are on the list!

So, Hayley - where did you get your inspirations when designing your home?
All it took was the one holiday to Marrakesh and my love of world travel was ignited. Of course I met my husband there and we share that love. Since then we have explored not only North Africa but India and China too. We have a teenage daughter now, Anna, and she often comes with us on our travels.
Our home reflects our interests and loves. We bought basically a foundation, the original owners had gone bankrupt during the recession so we designed our home on that foundation. Overall as you can see the theme is predominantly Morrocan with a blend of bright and neutral colours. Around the house you will find souvenirs and artefacts that we have picked up on our travels.

What are your favourite parts of your home?
My favourite parts of the house? I just love all the little hidey-hole corners with seating. There's one in the study, a gorgeous one in the courtyard which is even curtained for ultimate privacy and of course the sitting room on the top floor, in the tower, is secluded too- a perfect reading place. I also love the open, arched gallery that looks down onto the courtyard.

http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Screenshot-147.jpg

http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Screenshot-129.jpg

What do visitors make of the house?
A lot of people comment on the statues on display at the front of the house. Probably because most visitors come at night and the uplighters make these look very beautifual when it's dark. The house is certainly geared for entertaining so most visitors say that it's very comfortable and welcoming. Apart from the integral courtyard there are 3 tiers of entertaining spaces outside. We like a drink occasionally and the bar above the garage gives us great views. My personal favourite has to be the traditional style seating area by the pool.

http://i833.photobucket.com/albums/zz253/sandymdh/Screenshot-146.jpg
Hayley, Thank You for showing us your beautiful home.
No problem, it's been a pleasure.

Decided to go with a no-CC version in the end. No CC at all in this house.

Jim Bob moved back to Riverview after his granddad passed away to help take care of the family farm (and his eccentric grandmother). He was shocked upon arriving that, due to hard times, bits and pieces of the farm had been sold off and all that was left was a small vegetable plot and the barn. Having to choose between the barn and nature's finest for shelter, his grandparents remodeled the said barn into livable space and kept on attempting to bring the soil back to the fertile ground it used to be.

Okay, okay, so the hills aren't exactly rolling and the plants are all withered and dead. And yes, sadly, it's true. The cows aren't real either; who wants cows that close to the house anyway. It is now Jim Bob's responsibility to restore Rolling Hills to its original glory on a greatly diminished scale.

Front:
Welcome to the Farm! Don't mind Granddad's gravestone. Mamaw promised she would bury him under his favorite tree, right next to what was left of his beloved garden. Jim Bob doesn't quite understand why Granddad's john boat is precariously balanced on wooden pilings and every time he tries to ask her about it or even goes near it, she prattles on quite agitated about renovating and fixing up and something or another about needing it for the best spots. Best to leave it be for now.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4101/4815623331_0ce9f49f09_b.jpg
Front Side:
There is a close up of those cows. What's a dairy farm without cows? That's right; a garden. And Rolling Hills is NOT just a garden.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4123/4815623293_da4c257d7d_b.jpg
Rooftop View:
From a bird's eye view you can see the small pond, vegetable fields (what did we say about calling it a garden?!?), cow pasture, and baling storage.

First Level:
Living room, dining room, kitchen, Mamaw's bedroom, and 3 separate porchs.

Second Level:
Bathroom and small loft space that is Jim Bob's "room".
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4121/4810801793_d54b6e630d_b.jpg
Living Room:
Simple, spacious (once those stall walls were knocked out and the floor mucked and renovated the square footage was quite impressive!) and quite cozy.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4073/4816245596_2efbc630e3_b.jpg
Dining Room:
Mamaw's favorite room. On her lucid days, she is encouraging Jim Bob to find some nice girl to marry and make lots of babies with so she can fill the table with kids and cookies. On her not so lucid days, she likes to sit at the table and color.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/4811425542_62980d822d_b.jpg
Kitchen:
Once the tack room, the kitchen has hand painted cabinets and Mamaw's homemade curtains.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4116/4811425732_b47c51dd57_b.jpg
Mamaw's Room:
Her knees can't take too many trips up and down the stairs, so the master bedroom is on the ground floor. Don't worry about the bathroom being upstairs, she's got a backup system for when her arthritis acts up. Vertical blinds cover the French doors leading to the dining room and she has a private patio overlooking the pond.
http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4141/4810801985_28aa08aa34_b.jpg
Bathroom:
Small, yet highly effiecient, this bathroom carries on the country theme in the wash basin style sink and floral towels and accents on the commode.

No CC has been used in the making of this lot. Only base game installed. Lot has been play tested...everything functions and is accessible for use. In case anyone is wondering, the farm stuff (cows, hay, water trough, etc) is from the EA store...not CC. Also, the vertical blinds in Mamaw's room were NOT placed with moveobjects, they ARE functional and sims are able to walk through the door.

Thank you! I wanted to try to completely switch from my last house. The 3 foundation pieces are still in the front, I just took it from a more side view so everyone could see the front door. There is a little path that goes down through the pampas grass to the street. I'll definitely have to show a better picture of that though when I update everything.

If I can't go Japanese, I'm going to make a sculptor's haven! :0)

I had a lot of fun with this one. I had intended to make it a house for a childish sim, but it just wasn't working the way I wanted, so I started over and came up with this:

When Dinah and Thomas married they had different ideas about a lot of things, especially the house they would live in together. Thomas wanted something modern and streamlined, Dinah wanted something woody, warm, and earthy. The one thing they did agree on was saving the planet by saving electricity. Their two story, one bedroom, one-and-a-half bath home was the perfect fit. From the outside it looks like the modern block that Thomas always wanted but the inside is woody and earthy like Dinah always dreamed. The inside furnishings were kept minimalist to please Thomas, and the outside features terrace gardens full of green leafy plants for Dinah. The windmills and solar panels installed around the property keep their electricity bills low and lets their environmentalist hearts rest peacefully. But the couple's favorite part of the house is the downstairs art gallery. Both being artists they adore having such a bright room to house the art of their favorite artists, other than each other of course.

Street View
Though the house may seem from the outside like every other dime-a-dozen modern home, the windmills as well as the leafy green plants suggest that this home may be different.

This house makes that dream a reality with a spacious bright gallery. The wide windows give plenty of natural light so you can see the art the way it was meant to be seen.

The spacious back yard is great for entertaining featuring a barbecue, plenty of tables and seats for eating, and a fire pit. But it's also great for enjoying the outdoors alone complete with benches beneath old trees, a small pond for fishing, and a bounty of growing things for all to enjoy. The solar panels at the edge of the property only add to the green-ness of this home.

Sims2CrazyGurl - Oh yes, we'll definitely be doing more. Lots of folks want a Foundations contest for TS2, so we'll probably do that first, and then... either another Foundations contest for TS3, or maybe something focusing on sims so people who aren't builders/decorators can join in, or... I don't know. We'll see. :)

Again, I am amazed at the creativity of the entrants already submitted! I wish I was that creative. Anyway, here's my entry for contest #2, as hopeless as it seems to be!

Okay, the story... Mr & Mrs Prickle wants a dream home in Twinbrook, so they contracted renowned local architect Hugobert von Schmuck to design one for them. Problem was, as Hugobert found out too late, is that the couple has wildly different personality and requirement. Mr Prickle wants the sturdiest, most massive house possible, his security stemming from having his rickety childhood home blown away by a strong wind while he was cowering under his bed. Mrs Prickle, however, lived out her childhood in a former underground nuclear fallout shelter that her eccentric parents turned into home, spending her entire childhood life surrounded by walls, artificial lights, and no windows. So she wants an airy home with lots of glass areas and high ceilings. After tearing what few hairs he has left for a few weeks, Hugobert finally come up with this home.

The Modern Flying Butress

It's a modern-style home, with three "flying butress" out front (as the foundation practically begging for it!) and two more out back. The massive pillars out front and in the back as well as the "fins" provided a sense of sturdiness and security that Mr Prickle needs, and balances out the airiness of all the two-story and glassed areas..

The house features a two-story sitting area with two-story glass walls on one corner (Mrs Prickle's favorite place to be), a U-stairs, two bedrooms, each with its own en-suite bathrooms, a modern kitchen, another bathroom downstairs, and fenced-in yard with a pool out back.

No CCs.
Disclaimer: At least that I know of. It does use items from expansion packs. Might have used some from EA store but I don't think so (they installed funny on my latest reinstall, some failed to show up at all, some have no labels/icons (like standard content) or even labeled as CCs!)

UPDATE

I am making some changes to my entry. Nothing major, just some reshuffling of interior pieces. I just noticed that the fireplace being where it is, next to the landing of the U-stairs where the floor has been lowered, caused its chimney to be missing its middle section, only to reappear again in upper level. Not good, unless you want your home to be full of soot whenever you lit up that fireplace. Might even cause carbon-monoxide poisoning! So that fireplace is gone. Modern homes don't need them anyway, what with efficient central heating and all. In its place is the TV, and what used to be the TV room is converted into sitting/reading room. Oh, and landscaping is improved too.

Rainbow Light Beach house used to be the Rainbow Light Church. It was turned into a house after the massive scandal two years ago. Our "world famous" gay female pastor was caught in bed with Christopher Steel! I can't say I blame her, considering he is such a great guy, but we lost all of our parishioners.

Well at least there was one good outcome from all of that - A one-of-a-kind gorgeous beach house!

"OoooOOoOooOh PRETTY COLORS!" (That's what I thought after finishing the lighting. ;) )

Pictures shown throughout the house that don't look familiar are digital photo frames, with some really great shots I got around the beach. I use the moveobjects cheat quite often, so if something is questionable, just ask!)

The bottom floor has been completely torn out and renovated, so that the shape of the living room would match up with the bedroom. The deck is wide open and airy, because who wants to be cooped up when they can enjoy the fresh air coming in off the water?

I love the bathrooms in the house. I can tell you that there is nothing better than a long, hot bath while being able to watch the waves roll in outside your window.

The bar being so close to the beach is such a convenience! Why I can't even count how many times I've gotten drunk and gone skinny-dipping in the ocean!

....what? Too much information? My apologies. Moving along...

It's actually my first modern house for the sims 3 so, judges be gentle.:)

Happy Hipster's Ultra Modern Dwelling

Designed and created by famous young architect and interior designer Linda Deeley, who currently resides here with her husband, promising movie composer. This contemporary house features open plan layout, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, nursery, spacious kitchen, working space for both spouses and, of cause a pool and roof garden. Building materials are quite cheap but stylish looking - plywood, poured concrete and compressed garbage. Linda concentrated on clean straight lines and mostly neutral pallete, using bright, almost neon colour splashes to emphasize a wall or two throughout the building. The dwelling is decorated mostly with Linda's photos and live plants. Who would've thought that life goes on outside SimCity?

I was just about to politely ask about that  .

What is the point penalty in terms of using floating tiles? Is it 1 point per tile or 10 points per tile or something different? I have a great idea, I'm just wondering how many points I would sacrifice...

Thanks!

I've kind of left the penalties up to the individual judges, to take off of the Architecture part, based on how much they think it deviates from the spirit of the contest/rules/blah/etc.

I agree!!! I went to the grocery store today and stopped in the little Game Stop next door, just to check out Ambitions. Can't decide about WA. If it is anything like BV, I'll probably pass. The objects were nice for building but I never actually sent my sims anywhere. Then I decided that I had done half of the challenge with base game only and I would finish the second half the same way. Blast my stubborness...hey that should be a trait for sims.

For people who are yet to take their pictures, if you are going to do so in Build Mode and want to get rid of the floor grid then just switch to terrain paint mode and they disappear. Then all you have to do is hide your cursor under the foundation and it's not seen then. Perfect.

@menaceman44, I think you should move a simmy into the home so you can click -TAB- and use movie-maker mode: you get much better angles and the cursor and everything disappears so theres no worries. :)

Here are your scores for Round 1:

The scores were calculated thusly:

Average score each judge gave per category (so, what all judges gave each contestant for Structure was averaged, then Decor, etc.).

Then these averages per category were added together to give the total points for all categories for each contestant.

Then the CC bonus was added, to give your total number of points.

It was left up to each judge to determine how many points to deduct for deviating from the rules and spirit of the contest, such as having too many pics, modifying the lot orientation and foundation, and overhanging areas negating the lot's footprint.

If you did not mention whether or not you used CC, you were assumed to have used the maximum 10 pieces, and were given 1 point for that scoring category. If judges noticed additional uncredited CC when scoring, you could have had the CC bonus reduced. The CC bonus was one number, based on your disclosure of CC used and any we might have noticed afterward.

All of these are rounded up, but the formulas work on the non-rounded versions so you might notice a discrepancy of 1 here and there in the sums - it's not an error, just a rounding display thing. Don't worry too much about it. ;)

These numbers are, in order:

I will go through the Chat Thread in the morning and count AGREES ONLY on any entries or partial entries (pics only are fine!) posted in the Chat Thread for the Round 1 foundation, and offer a very special mention to whoever has THE MOST AGREES in the Chat Thread. So if you'd like to "vote" on a special "user's choice" house, get to clicking those Agrees! No, clicking Disagree does not vote them down - don't be a disagreement gnome!

Furthermore...

I want to extend a

HUUUUUGE thanks!!!

to our judges - it took them quite a long time to go through all the entries and I am delighted at how quickly they did so, and how many great comments they left - you guys are awesome!

Judge Comments!

Every single entrant has comments from our judges! Some short, some long, not from all judges, but everyone has at least 2 comments. If you would like judge comments please private message me as soon as possible and I will reply with your judge comments.

Please be aware before requesting comments - some of these are not super sugar coated. The judges had to go through 70 entries, looking at all the pics and reading your text. Sometimes they were a little blunt and to the point - it's not intended to be mean or snarky, just bear in mind they had -70 entries- to go through. If you are not willing to hear a little constructive criticism that may not be wrapped up in the neatest little easy-to-swallow package, please do not request judge comments.

Now I'm going to bed - I haven't reviewed a whole lot of the thread since I've been neck-deep in Excel, so any questions can either be answered by some other tall hat, or in the morning.

Great Round 2 entries, guys, keep 'em coming!

Hi HP .. MMm I noticed I was penalised for using CC when I am fairly sure I didn't - well I didn't on purpose and would certainly stand corrected if it was pointed out to me - but as far as I am aware, I didn't use it. Bit confused tbh. Thanks. Editted to add that I did disclose at the top of my entry that I didn't use it.

fairycake89 - That's... a real good question. Looking back at your entry I see that you did mention no CC in the top of your post, and I don't have any note of you using a buttload of it anywhere here so it must have been in error. Many apologies - going through this many entries can kind of make one's brain turn into sludgey grey foam and leak out of one's ears. I have corrected it in the chart.

If anyone else thinks their CC scores are in error, please let me know ASAP - I think Mia138 was the only one that was marked down based on undisclosed CC (custom roof texture) that we noticed in judging.

The only thing about the scoring was the presentation bit: some people got high scores for just showing pictures with a bit of "hey here is my house" with them and some people got high scores for writing stories to go along with it. I know the rules stated you can do whichever but it makes it kind of hard to determine which is the best way of presentation if there is no real scoring consistency. Otherwise, I guess I am okay with my score! I won't lie, I was hoping for better but, overall, I am pleased, especially considering this was the first ever house I built for TS3.

Alan - We had -eight- judges this time around. All with their own tastes and preferences - and amount of niceness. Some awarded, on average, more points than others, some probably gravitate toward particular styles more than others - just like anyone. Subsequent rounds, not sure if I'll be able to wrangle that many people into judging again as the poor things know what they're getting into now - but I think personal taste and any favouritism probably evens out over eight very different people. ;)

heaven_sent_8_18 - I don't think it's so much about the "best" way to do it but how you put your own personal spin on it. Too much constriction and you can't really express yourself and do your own thing. For some, the stories worked really well, and for others, a bit more "here is my house" description did too. Some people excelled more on pics than text, and if ya did well on both, you got an especially high score. It's hard to put a lot of this aesthetic stuff into a numerical value, but it's sorta what you have to do for a contest like this. :)

I'm pleased with my score also. While some of the higher scores aren't my preference or something I personally like I still think with the amount of judges used it was done fairly. So hats off to the judges and especially HP for putting in their time and hard work for this contest.

Ok here were go :) House #2. No CC once again :)

Cabin fever anyone? I don't think so! Not with this house anyway. Its a one bedroom, one bath cabin made out of rocks and pine wood. There is plenty to do such as fishing in your own private lake, barbecuing, bird watching and star gazing, swimming, painting, roasting marshmallows by the fire pit and more. You can rent it ( or buy) and use in the summer or the winter. You'll play some tunes sitting around the fireplace drinking hot chocolate on those cold snowy days. :Pint:

Well, lets begin the tour!

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-172.jpg

This is the front of the house and as you can see there are some logs for you to stay nice and toasty on cold days.

Here are the house plans.

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-174.jpg

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-175.jpg

You can see parts of the foundation that aren't connected to anything. That's because the first day it was being built, it started to rain and created a small pond around where they've begun so the workers had to build farther back with better foundation. As a result of the rain, the pond expanded and was more of small lake than a pond. There are also some deposits of the rainwater still lying around. The workers never removed the old foundation for certain reasons.

Here is your foyer. " Not an extra picture, just part of the "tour""

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-190.jpg

The living room. Im sure you'll enjoy relaxing in here. On the left side o the picture, there is a love seat with some books for you to read :)

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-177.jpg

Moving on to the kitchen. This kitchen is built for a chef! I hope you enjoy cooking because we've installed the best appliances for you to use :)

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-187.jpg

Your bedroom. I just love that pine-tree green :)

Bathroom " Not part of extras, just part of tour"

http://i16.photobucket.com/albums/b30/wilmajjetson/mts/Screenshot-191.jpg

Here is your marvelous backyard. You'll have plenty of space to grill and serve your guests. It's almost like your camping when you step outside, with the birds chirping and the sound of water running from the fountains and the small lake. And to relax even more...

:( owww i'm abit disappointed with my score to be honest. If I used no cc tho i would have gotten 63 and hopefully my next house will score higher cus i'm not using cc for it.

I know I'm not amazingly creative like some of you on here when it comes to the building but i think I make it up in my decorating and detail inside and I try just to make a good looking house thats all.

It seems like the people who do the modern houses or the themed houses get the higher score and no one should have to do a modern style house if it's not their style and they are not comfortable with it, they should be able to get decent points for doing their own thing.
I don't want to be rude but some of the higher scorers houses, yeah they have a good theme and the building is interesting but inside alot of them are dark and dingy and nothing matches nicely or the opposite and everything is too matchy matchy and not really thought about [not all of you tho :) ] I think alot of the creatively built houses have comprimised on the style inside maybe thats just my opinion but I think the inside is equally important as the outside and the scoring doesn't really reflect that and people have different skills.

But all in all I have had fun doing this and really it doesn't matter what everyone else thinks of your style cus everyone has different tastes and I'm very sorry for the rant lol. I'm just gunna have to try harder in the second round or try something new maybe :/

LifesLover
21st Jul 2010, 1:08 AM
Well, the themed houses would score higher, because we were supposed to have a theme for our house, whether that be modern, contemporary, disaster, Victorian and the like. I would have liked to have had a higher score, but at the same time, I was expecting a smaller score considering my house. I spent a lot of time working on the inside, but I neglected the outside, and that's where I lost points. I was disappointed about my presentation score.

In the end, I may have scored on the low end for this round, but it just makes me more determined to up the ante for the rest of the rounds.

What i meant about the theme thing was like the people who did the houses like the morrocan house or the lighthouse or houses which were heavily themed. I kept to a theme through my house, mine was kind of classic but modern but it wasnt a really obvious one, I think what they meant by sticking to a theme was that each room kind of went with the house and wasn't like an old victorian boudoir nextdoor to a crazy neon rave room

LifesLover
21st Jul 2010, 1:32 AM
Well, that's up to HP to clarify. I had the impression that it meant for your house to be what I described. Obviously, if you were to do a Moroccan themed house, both the exterior and interior decorating would reflect that, from room to room, keeping to what you thought as it being a continuous theme.

Dude, I'm just happy I finished it.

Anyway, onto Round 2! (The official entry this time)

I called this one Grandma's Cottage. Of course, that would be if Grandma was rich, because it's a pretty big cottage, IMO.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-14.jpg

The builders for the house decided to place a tower above the entry hall with plenty of windows to let in the sunlight - definitely not a happy home for vampires.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-9-3.jpg

On the main floor, we have the living room,

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-4-2.jpg

the kitchen,

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-5-3.jpg

and the master suite, including a private porch for Grandma to relax after the grandkids have gone to bed upstairs.

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-4-1.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-5-2.jpghttp://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-10-2.jpg

(Grandma's got a nice view from her porch, doesn't she?)

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-7-3.jpg

On the second floor, we have a loft-style common area with a plenty of seating for everybody to sit around and catch up, with an activity table for the little ones. The second floor also contains the kids' bedroom, big enough for two at a time to benefit from alone time with Grandma!

http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff316/ForeverCamp/Sunset%20Valley/Screenshot-2-3.jpg

In the backyard, we also have a nice big yard and a pool to splash around in during those hot summer days, and a great lounging area right by the poolside if those pesky teenage girls feel more like tanning than swimming!

I want to congratulate all participants for their efforts on finishing and posting their entries. :0) You all did a great job! :0)

I want to put a challenge out to you early finishers. You have 8 DAYS - EIGHT DAYS - Why rush? Take your time and build the most fantabulous place you can think of. Is it good enough? Sleep on it and make it better! BEAT MY SCORE! I encourage you all ~! I can't wait to see what you've done with the footprint! :D

For those of you who do not have architectural training, I encourage you to use Google and look at pictures! Want to build your own Venetian Palazzo? Go look up pictures of Venice and use those elements here! Not interested in Italian? Then go off to Zanzibar and check out the homes and gardens there. Not there either? How about the adobes of the southwest US? OooO! How about Thailand? Zimbabwe? What can you do without CC? Can you capture that 'spirit' of the place? I really wanted to make a Japanese themed house for the round 2 footprint but I don't have the correct parts.. so, I bounced off that far wall and am working on the Sculpture's abode. I'd love to do a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home but I need cc to do that justice. So you see, we all have limitations.

Check out garden pictures. Do you see one you like? SIMMIFY IT! I challenge you! :0) I look forward to seeing the FINAL round 2 entries. Don't give up! Enjoy yourselves and STEAL IDEAS from other players and make them better! (I'm chasing Flabiliki! ahahahahahahaa)

Regarding the theme thing, it's basically... choose a theme, any theme - whatever makes you happy, whatever the lot seems to want to be, to you. And just try to stick to it. So if you want to do a modern house, make sure it looks modern, and is decorated modern, and you should get a pretty high score on theme. Doing a really interesting, unusual theme, and doing it well and consistently might get you a higher score, though. :)

I'm up now and will begin going through my MASSIVE PILE OF PMs, omg ya'll... and send out judge comments. ;)

LifesLover
21st Jul 2010, 4:09 PM
Encouraged to steal ideas? I don't think that's what we're being told to do. I don't think of it as stealing to look at everyone else and their homes, and see what might be wrong with mine in conjunction. I especially look at roofs, since mine are quite lackluster. We all should learn from each other, but that doesn't mean steal.

heaven
21st Jul 2010, 4:10 PM
Steal ideas? I am not sure what exactly you mean by that. Most people are trying their best to get that 20 point bonus for no CC and there is only so much you can do with one foundation and official content. Just because there are 10 modern houses doesn't mean that the first contestant had his idea stolen by the last 9. :(

Ive
21st Jul 2010, 4:13 PM
I doubt anyone steals ideas to be honest. Why would you want to submit something to an 'open' competition that is clearly a rip-off?
Besides people can't help but look at other houses and get ideas but it doesn't mean that they are going to replicate it. Everything ever created is formed from an idea of something previously made so it's quite hard, if not impossible to avoid

My comment wasn't completely serious - having said that I may still not alter my post yet - I thought I couldn't improve on it when I built it but I'm sure it looks better now so may wait just in case I get a brilliant (or even mediocre) idea before the deadline. :-) I'm bored with re-taking pictures... I certainly wasn't saying anyone has as from what I've seen there's some really imaginative and creative stuff gong on!

Agreed! I knew I wanted a barn, built the exterior walls and then sat and stared at it for what felt like hours trying to figure out what to do inside. I wanted a loft and then I was just going to place both bedrooms upstairs and then I was just going to leave the top completely open and then I tried split stairs. I think I must have gutted my house 15 times before I finally got a floor plan I thought was acceptable. And then I realized my house had no bathroom. So I had to go back to the drawing board and work it back in. :faceslap:

NecroVonK

I tried to go more modern with it, didn't like what was coming out, built something else, scrapped it. Built something that didn't look modern at all and was rather happy with it, game locked up. Lost it all. Gave up for that night and then last night built my little house on the beach and I like it well enough to submit. Just gotta finish it up tonight. Still need to do the bedroom and bathroom then work on some more outdoor landscaping stuff for the backyard. Landscaping is the bane of my existence on Sims 3 building however I do believe I'm improving somewhat.

I've had that happen before when I worked for hours on something and forgot to save as I went. Here's a some of things I now do to keep that from ever happening again.

1. Set a timer for 1 hour and stop and save your game.

2. Save a copy of the project to the library.
From edit town, click on lot then click on little folder icon.

3. Export lot when you are done for the day/night whatever.
From edit town, click on lot, then click on the "share" to export the lot. That save the lot as a Sims3Pack. Just open your launcher and install it. :lovestruc

Ouch. Finally managed to get online to see the scores and now feel REALLY dumb for accidentally using a custom roof texture . To think I spent ages checking and double checking none of the objects were CC because I didnt want to lose any marks! I was already feeling inferior to the other great creators in the contest and this hasnt helped lol!
Anyway, lesson learnt and I'm off to work some more on Round 2 ...

By the way, for those of you who mentioned above that you lost your creations because your game crashes, Id totally recommend Twallans Saver Mod. (http://ts3.tscexchange.com/index.php?topic=1914.0). You set it up to automatically save your game at RT half hour, RT hourly or 1 sim day, intervals and it does it without you have to think about it. Its one of my 'must have' mods because I never remember to save regularly otherwise

@fairycake, The layout of your house is sextastic. Layouts are NOT my forte so I wish I was you. :)

I'll give you a tip: All the wicker in the living room is too overwhelming. I think you'll get more points if you add some more colours, eg. make the cushion part of the couches white, and maybe the coffee table and the lampshade white. I think that'll balance the room out more and make things stand out more. Maybe also change the painting frames to white too? Whatever you like. ;)

Whatever you like. ;)

hee hee yeah I went a bit mad with da wicker ... lol! I agree, I'll change it tomorrows! Thank you!

Hey guys! Here's my R2 entry! :here: Plangant Parrot!

So, the house was built in Twinbrook in 1978, after the house was built as a lottery prize. When it was won, the new owner decided he wanted the money, and went to Connecticut with the cash.

The house was just abandoned, as the company raffling off the home refused to give away the house to anyone else. It became a ruin, and people just put a tarp over it because it was too much of an eyesore.

Then, one day, a tourist noticed a collossal tarp in the suburbs, and enquired about it. He learned that it was just an old house and he could see it if he wanted to. He pulled off the tarp and fell in love.

He then decided to renovate it, and sell it and make a profit. He did so, and now the home is up for auction in Twinbrook. Any takers?

I like your house, Alan_Gast, but the exterior sidings look a lot like your R1 house. I think it'd be great if you went for some new siding, or a different color, to change up from your last round.

Alan Gast, what do ya mean you don't do layouts? I really like the layout you've done there. The inside is simple and flows well and outdoors makes good use of the space (that's just my opinion mind). I just wanted to say that I love your colours, especially in the kitchen. I like modern houses but I get so bored of seeing white and neutral tones all the time, lol.

Mia138 I totally agree. It's disheartening to see so many awesome entries, especially when, like me you haven't even settled on a theme or layout nevermind started decorating or landscaping, lol

I know already that I wont have a great score for this round as I have used an item of CC so wont get full marks there. There were just NO other windows that went with the style and space I had available. It's stupid that there aren't more counter height windows.
I'm leaving it until tomorrow to continue now anyway. I should be in bed. I have work in the morning! :(

Hey cool I have page four saved already. We share a page. :)

YES! You added more decor and it's BEAUTIFUL. Love the changes! Especially the rug in the bedroom. Nice pattern.

I put up a bunch of changes last night to mine as well. Moved the bar. Added the sauna and shower area. Added a few more things to the kitchen. Retook photos. It's a lot of work huh?

It is! I made my changes then realized I had to take all of my pictures again, not just some of them. But I'm much happier with the whole house now.
I love the design of yours, especially the center room, there's something I like very much about that.

Sorry to say, but you can't place floating floor tiles , so you cant connect the three lonely foundation pieces to the house :(

dietdrpepperfan
22nd Jul 2010, 3:33 AM
"You may not use split levels to extend or modify the footprint of the lot as an alternative to using foundations. Nor can you do floating floor tiles to extend the footprint. The supplied foundation is the footprint you must use - that's why it's the theme of the contest, and not just "build whatever you want on a 30x30"."
I was under the impression that you can have an over-hang but the first level may not contain floating floor tiles..

missroxor
22nd Jul 2010, 3:44 AM
I think you can have an overhang as long as it doesn't increase the livable space, which yours does...but I could be wrong. You can still have it though if you don't mind a points penalty. :D

NickelNicole12

Overhangs or extensions to the foundation level will be penalized. They are allowed on upper floors without penalty :)

Quick question.. Is EA store junk classified as custom content, or not?

EP and Store Content have been allowed and are not classified as Custom Content.

Hi! I see I stirred up a pot of controversy! :0) What I meant about 'stealing' was you get your ideas from looking at other people's creations and their designs inspire you in ways you would not have thought of otherwise.. For example, I was the only Morocco entry for round 1 but in round 2 I see that other artists have used the motiff in unusual ways that I did not. One person has a central, enclosed courtyard which is authentic in spirit, others have used those slatted windows, central domes over plain walls, etc. ... People all over the world make small spaces into small, 'miniaturized' gardens with a couple of well placed plants and a water feature. Put your camera at the sims eye view. Does it enchant? Does it make you happy? peaceful? crazy? restless? What is the 'negative' space proportion to the 'filled' space? That's what I meant by looking at what the other contestants are doing and 'stealing' their ideas. See, Exact copies are not creative. It's an exact copy... not your inspiration...get it? :0) Have fun! and just DO IT!

and just to let you guys know. My gardens tend to be lush and a bit overgrown - never completely formal. Why! It's what I would have if I had a green thumb! lol Because I live in a DANGED DESERT! and can't grow ANYTHING but WEEDS and things with thorns! lol We have a 60 day growing season 'maybe, if we're lucky' so,. My simmies get the garden I'd like to have if I could grow it. here. :king:

Hey, we might be neighbours, I've just moved to the desert :)

When it comes to building houses I usually do what you suggested before and look up pics of particular styles that I'm interested in but I normally steer clear of landscaping, I hate gardening in RL too and have a solid record of killing every plant my Mum's ever given me (bless her, she's determined to make me green-fingered like her). I have in the past tried to look up pics to help me out but rarely came across anything that I liked that could easily translate to sims. Do you happen to have any suggestions/favourite sites for landscaping inspiration?

It was me who made the cheeky comment about stealing - and actually me with the Morrocan house in this round. Hats off to you for doing it last time -it's quite a hard them to do authentically without cc as not much store stuff- most is Egyptian and not really the same. I am updating mine this morning so will put a quick post on when done - I'm really pleased with my effort now - even the landscaping BUT
1. I don't know which pictures to include I have too many good ones.
2. I have an empty page of a notepad here trying to think of an original way to present the house but my brain is not cooperating!
3. I have used some CC- I HOPE what I have used will add to the theme points so hopefully wont lose too much - Have only used a couple of items. It's a dilemna isn't it.
I'm really happy with my house but there's so much more to consider!

Right mine is done (I think :-)) Have just updated with all my changes. It is post 71 on page 3. I was going for the 'Living Sims' mag style lol.

Alan- love what you have done with the 3 odd bits of foundation. Also love the bedroom colours/decoration.
Speaking of landscaping again I havn't really got any pics of the back that show the landscaping and when zoomed out on the floorplans the detail all disappears so what I have done will be wasted anyway. Does anyone know anyway to make all the detail show when zoomed out? I'll probably have to redo those anyway as noticed I left 'cutaway' walls on so they don't look that great.

Alan I LOOOVE your house.

Ok here's a repost of mine. Deleted the other post. But I am missing one more bonus shot so I'll add it tomorrow I guess.

**No CC was used in the making of this house. lol

This little house on the beach is designed for a couple just starting a life out together as it only has one bedroom and the only bathroom is in the master bedroom. A perfect home to live in for the first few years before you decide to have children. Although there's a hallway leading to a home office that very well could be remodeled to be a nursery if something unexpected happens.

There's a little laundry nook tucked away off the living room. Kitchen is small but very "sunshiney" with a breakfast bar. You'll notice what I mean upon seeing the cabinets.

There are entrances to the barbecue deck right off the main entrance hallway and the hallway leading to the office. A very nice little outdoor area to entertain friends.

Color scheme is light woods throughout with shades of aqua, lime, yellow, and seafoam in the rooms.

You can extend upper levels to make overhangs, but doing so on the lower levels basically negates the whole idea of using the foundation as the limitations.

You -can- do it - you won't get disqualified for it, but you will definitely lose points for doing so.

I know this is what was said about the whole overhang thing. Although a porch does, in my opinion, add to livable space so it still may not be allowed.
