"Mommy, mommy!!"
"Yes dear?"
"The holiday is only a few weeks away, what are we going to do?! Please don't say we'll just sit home for the whole time again!"
"Well my dear, what would you like to do then?"
"I'd love to go somewhere. We could look up some adverts, right mom? Maybe we'll find something nice!"
"Alright, let's do that. Now what was the site that looked up all these options… Oh right, Simliciousholidays, that's it!"

*******************************

My poor Sims never really got to go on a proper holiday. They've always sat home, doing their everyday things: working, school, homework, building skills… It's time for them to have some fun!

With this in mind, I want to present to you…

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1368845

BUILDING CONTEST: HOLIDAY EDITION!

Qualification to host:
- Participant in the Official Foundation Contest
- Winner of Picture This! - A mini contest
- Second place in Foundations for Families Contest
- One of the winners in the Official Calendar Contest 2012, TS2
- One of the judges in the Official Calendar Contest 2012, TS3
- Winner of Building Blocks: A Foundation Challenge

Concept:
The task for you is to build a lot where the Sims can spend a holiday in. It's up to you what kind of lot that will be: A hotel, resort, cabin, camping site…? Anything is possible!
While I won't be limiting your creativity on the lot size, price or type, or won't tell you what kind of items you should have on your lot, there are a few things I want to see on your entry.
Because I used to be mostly a lot builder, as well as a tutorial writer and a mentor, I want you to explore to the world of CFE, CAST and FOG EMITTERS. I also want you to put some effort in to your landscaping, so I'm expecting to see some TERRAIN EDITING, in the means of shaping your terrain, and painting it. If you post a flat lot, you will make me really sad!

Rules:
- Forum rules apply
- Only for TS3
- There is no limit for the lot size or price
- The lot type is free as well
- All EPs and SPs are allowed
- Store content is allowed
- All CC is allowed, though keep in mind if you plan to also upload the lot to the site, you CANNOT use Pay content!
- Because I do like CC free stuff the most, using no CC or store content will reward you with bonus points!

Required things:
- You MUST use CFE on your lot.
- You MUST use CAST (Create a style-tool) on your lot
- You MUST use FOG EMITTER(s) on your lot
- You MUST EDIT THE TERRAIN of your lot in the means of shape and paint.
Please see a list of links at the end of the post, if you don't know what these things are, or need more ideas/help with them.

Your post:
- You need to post one picture, just one, that works as an advert for your lot. For this picture, you can use all Photoshop you want and let your imagination loose, but keep in mind that it needs to attract Sims to visit your lot! There is no size limitations on this picture, and you can upload it on the post, or host it externally. Make sure this picture is the first inline image in your post.
- In addition to your ad, you need to post the same pictures as the upload guidelines would require you to do: Front, back, floorplans. Please see the guidelines here (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Screenshot_Basics).
- All images except the ad need to be min. 800x600px up to max. 1280x1024px and uploaded to the thread!
- You can upload up to 12 pictures+the ad, so if you still have room, you can post any type of pictures to show your lot better. While you are allowed up to so many pictures, please keep the amount of inline images at max 4.
- Tell us a little bit of your lot. Why would my Sims need to select your lot as their holiday location?
- Please also list what emitter codes you used, and where they are used on the lot.
- State if you used CC or not.

Requirements:
This contest is made for all kinds of builders, whether you were just starting to plummet in to the world of building for Sims, or have done that for years. The only things you will need are will to participate, skill to read the rules, and time to do this.

If you would like to be a judge, the requirements are basically the same. Please let me know if you want to judge! :)

Judges:
AdonisPluto
paksetti
Emergency judge(s):
armiel

Scoring:

Because this contest is not about architecture, but using some techniques to make Sims a tempting place to spend their holiday in, the scoring will be done based to the below criteria:

- Use of CFE: Did you use CFE on your lot? Does it make sense?
0 points for not using any CFE, up to 5 points based on the creative use of CFE.
- Use of CAST: Did you use CAST on your lot? Does it look good and make sense?
0 points if you clearly didn't use any CAST or only used so little it doesn't really count, up to 5 points based on the creative use of CAST, and another up to 5 points based on the aesthetics.
- Use of FOG EMITTERS: Did you use them on your lot? Does the way you used them look good and make sense?
0 points for not using any, up to 5 points based on the creative use of them, and another up to 5 points depending on how much the use of them adds to the aesthetics of the lot.
- Terrain editing: Did you alter your terrain and paint it all nicely? Does it look natural?
minus 5 points for a flat lot, as well as minus 5 points for not using any terrain paint. Up to 5 points for terrain altering based on how good it looks like and if it makes sense. Another up to 5 points for terrain painting based on how good it looks like and if it makes sense.
- Overall look and feel of your lot: Does it look like something Sims could spend a holiday in? Are there elements that clearly separate your lot from a regular residential lot? Does your lot really make the Sims scream "This is the one, I wanna go here!" ?
Up to 10 points based on above criteria.
- Time and effort: Does it look like you really put some thought to the build? Did you spend some time on it instead of just slamming something together?
Up to 5 points based on the above criteria.

- Your post:
Ad picture: Does it make the Sims wanna visit the lot? Does it show the lot in an alluring way?
Up to 5 points.
Your required pictures: Did you post all required pictures? Are they the required size?
10 points. Minus 1 point per picture that was forgotten, or too small/big. Minus 1 point per pic that exceeds the allowed amount of inline images.
Your story – tell us a little about your lot: Did you do this? Is it more than a mere few words like "This is a lot that every sim wants to visit!"?
Up to 5 points based on how well you presented the lot with words.
List of emitter codes: Did you list them, and tell where they were used?
5 points.
Stating if used CC or not: Did you do this?
5 points.

Bonus points:
10 points for not using any CC/Store content!
10 points for using at least 5 different kinds of plants on the landscaping. The more bushes, the merrier!

Each judge will submit their scores to me, and I will count an average on each criteria. If I can do any math, the top score would be something along the lines of 100 points in total!

I created the scoring with the new upload scoring in mind, though you won't be rejected or sent a CR here! ;)

1 point, 2 points, 3 points, 4 points, 5 points
Meh…, Kind of there, Good!, Well done!, Great!

I do hope that the rules and the scoring do not look too intimidating. I wanted to break it all in to tiny bits for it to be easier for you to understand what I want you to do, and for the judges to score. :D

Prize for the winner?!
Because this is a one round contest, the winner won't be receiving a blue ribbon under their avatar. I do however want to encourage you to take part and work your best… So I'm going to come out of my retirement just a tad. The winner may request me to create them an unique item to use in their lots (build/buy), or I can build them a lot by their wishes. Something small though for either case. ;)

Timeline:
The contest will open up July 1 st, and stay open for entries for the month. It will be closed August 1 st, after which the judges will do their scoring. The results will be posted as soon as possible, though not before August 5 th.
If I only get 10 entries, the judging should not take too long, but you all understand that if there are over 30+ entries, it WILL take some time. :D

Got questions?
Please post the word bushes before your question, so I'll know you at least scraped the surface of this massive post! :D

*******************************

I got the idea of hosting this contest from my own holiday this summer. Me and my son will be spending almost the whole summer holiday in Germany!
The contest will run in the time I'll be there, but don't you worry! I'll still have plenty of time to check in here daily, if not multiple times a day. By the time of judging we have returned home to Finland. :)

Have fun everyone!

Regarding amount of allowed participants:
I do not wish to add a limit to entries just yet, but if it starts to seem I'll be drowning in them, there will be a set limit later. But you will be warned if such case occurs before hand.

Some questions from the thread with their replies

Please do read these, as they not only make the rules more clear, but answer some things that weren't on the original post at all!

Reya: by holiday can we pick any "human" holiday rather than TS3's Love Day, Leisure Day, etc? And if we are doing human holidays, can we pick something as vague as the summer?
No, I wasn't thinking of any set dates, like what you used as an example Reya, but ANY kind of holiday you can think of. Whether is was just a lazy weekend at a Holiday Spa, or a week-full-of-fun trip to a Ski resort for example.

Summer? Of course it is ok!

Minion:Is there a limit on the number of entrants to this competition? Also can we submit more than one entry?
no limits on participants/number of total entries for now, as said on the main post. ;)

If you feel like making more than one entry, go ahead, I don't mind I guess. Should I set a limit on those? Let's say 3. Should suffice even the craziest builders like you. :D

TheCantankerousUnicorn: does the writing for the advert have to be incorporated into the image or can it be separate?
The ad image and the lot description, ie. why the Sims should choose that lot as their holiday destination are not one and a same thing. I am expecting a separate description. You can however include text on the image as well, I do think that should be clear with "use all Photoshop you want" as PS also has ability to add text.

TheSimKid: can we use private islands or just blank lots. Does the lot need to be flat?
No, the lot doesn't need to be flat. I think it's totally ok to use private island for this contest, as it's not about sharing your lot, just about building on one.

PlayinSafe: Are we allowed to edit our posts after posting?
I'd say editing your post is totally fine until the contest has closed, if it's just fixing an issue on the -post-.

This includes uploading a picture that was forgotten and editing typos.
I don't want to see lots changing after you have uploaded your pics, pics being replaced, description written all over again and stuff like that.

If you DO edit your post, please state on that little box what you did. Mind you, I can always bribe a moderator to check your edits and compare them to the earlier version. ;)

jones7659: The the ad pic. Does it have to be just one screenshot, or can it be a collage of screenshot, just in one pic?
Yes, it can be a collage of many pictures.

cutsocks: I'm currently working on a lot for this contest, and I'm super excited and motivated... I'm about 40% done with the lot, well, that's a generous 40%... but anywho, I have a question. (Or a related group of questions.)

So just now, as I'm toiling away, I'm like, I could really use some more space... you know, for like dramatic effect. However, I'm already working on a 64x64 "canvas". Would it be possible to include a companion lot? Would it need to meet the requirements as well (CFE, CAST, terrain editing, fog emitter, etc.)? Could it be just supplementary and not judged? Or would be judged with the main lot? Or be judged separately?

As MTS allows for uploading sets of lots, my intention would to be include it as bonus/supplementary content and not to be judged with the main lot or even separately. It seems silly to me to upload it separately as it will clearly be meant to be used in conjunction with the main lot, although the main lot can and will stand effectively on its own merits without it.
The rules of the contest say nothing of the surroundings of the contest lot, so there is not way I can tell you: no, you're not allowed to do that. So I'm going to allow a complementary lot.

But, it will not be judged with the main lot, nor can it effect the score. The lot can be seen in the pictures, but it can't be the star of them. The contest is about your main lot. As it's hard to tell sometimes, where one lot ends and another one starts, I'm going to require you to write a little additional part of description of where the borders of your main lot are. Unless it's dead obvious in your pictures.

Since the second lot is outside the contest lot, and extra effort -you- want to do, there are no requirements or limits for that lot. Unless you plan to enter it as another entry into this contest.

jones7659:Do OMSPs count as a knock against the no cc goal?
um, good question.

Omsp's are mods though, not technically items. So ok, I'm gonna have to allow them, along with other similar -mods- such as curtain shifting mods, EA content unlockers, and stuff.

So as long as the visual content is EA's, from game only, you'll still get your CC bonus points.

Checking in!
While the contest only opens for entries tomorrow, you may post any questions you have about the rules or concept already! :)

I will post about when I'll be accepting entries tomorrow. Any lot posted before that will be automatically rewarded minus points for time and effort. I'm kidding, Maybe. Am I?

So I just want to make sure I'm not missing the concept entirely, but by holiday can we pick any "human" holiday rather than TS3's Love Day, Leisure Day, etc? And if we are doing human holidays, can we pick something as vague as the summer?

Holiday, vacation, call it what you want :D

No, I wasn't thinking of any set dates, like what you used as an example Reya, but ANY kind of holiday you can think of. Whether is was just a lazy weekend at a Holiday Spa, or a week-full-of-fun trip to a Ski resort for example.

Summer? Of course it is ok!

Does this make it any more clear? :P

I think Armi was using the word "holiday" in the European sense of "get away" or "vacation", whether or not it's tied to an actual celebratory, official holiday. :)
As soon as I'm done with my other assignments I may give this one a go. I haven't done a community/public lot in ages, and I've just recently been reflecting on how much I like to do those!

I can't do this. TS3 is NOT co-operating with me. I'm not in a great mood and this isn't helping. I'm staying in, but can't do what I originally planned :(

Bushes!

Just a quick question, does it have to be a community lot where many sims can visit or can it be a residential lot which can be used as a second home?

Tanky
30th Jun 2013, 10:26 PM
I have a vague idea in my head for what mine will be.
And I've never used CFE in TS3 yet, although I did in 2 so it can't be that much different
Quick question though, what is an emitter code?

QBUILDERZ
30th Jun 2013, 10:28 PM
When you use the fog emitter, a little dialog box pops up that asks you to set its function. The command you enter into it is the emitter code, TCU :)

TFC -- The post says the lot type is free, and Armi suggests that the contest is about any sort of vacation. To me, vacationing is packing up a tent and a sleeping bag and heading into the woods, if yours is rolling down the windows and heading to a breach house, I'm sure it still fits into the rules.

Another quick question, what are the codes you put in?

I'm so out of my depth here

fairycake89,

I figured only the Official contests/challenges have such things. This is not an official contest, and I don't think I've seen an unofficial contest have a chat thread, so... You can always log in to the chat to fuss about things? :D

You could make a social group for Contest Participants and put a chat thread in there?

I agree that I haven't seen any chat threads for unofficial contests, but it seems like a good idea in any contest.

This looks really interesting. I've been getting interested with sims building competitions lately. I think I'll try this out. I've use CFE before, but I'm not very familiar with fog emitters. Should I give it a try?
I also love terrain painting and landscaping. Not sure a resort with work with the emitter. Also, can we use private islands or just blank lots. I have a mac so I can't use CAW. :'(

If it is a flat lot, can anyone recommend some custom worlds?

Ghost,
if a contest mod starts a group for contest participants, or for fussing about contests in general and links me there, I'll post a thread in such group. But I'm not going to go and start one myself.

TheSimKid,
I'm unfamiliar with the concept of a private island, care to elaborate? I don't have Island paradise. :)
What comes to flat lots, no, the lot doesn't need to be flat.

Armiel, Uncharted Islands are islands that you discover by certain means whether meeting a mermaid or something like traveling by houseboat. here is a list.

I'm thinking of using something like Beryl Shoals or No Trouble Atoll. I wanted to know if we had to use a flat lot and modify it or not. Thanks. You should totally get IP, it's such a great expansion. Great for builders like yourself.

I see, thanks for the link.

I think it's totally ok to use such private island for this contest, as it's not about sharing your lot, just about building on one. :)

What comes to getting the EP myself, heck, I haven't built or even launched the game in AGES! So while this EP does seem to have many fancy things, I dunno if I wanna put money on something I'd maybe take a look a couple of times. ;)

Did you update? They added a base game ladder, spiral, connecting arch, one step foundations, and stilted foundations. In Island Paradise, there actually is some content that looks JUST like store content. I have store content but I never use it for uploads unless it is a free item. You also can now build like super amazing pools. Diving boards, waterslides, pool fountains, and a pool bars. The ultimate spa with firewalks, fire pits, hot tubs, and a pool. (If you have Sunlit Tides, the sauna and massage table as well!) You can buy it whenever they have a sale. Thanks.

I'm lurking in the bushes. I see Tee is here as well, perhaps I should be a bad loser and go somewhere else :p

Fogemitters are such fun, you should try it. I would recommend searching for fogemitter codes in google though and download the doc instead. The doc can be searched in, there's just too many codes up to todays exp to look through videos. Download the linked mod from Buckley in Armiels description. Have a sim living on the lot so you can see what the codes do. You can do a lot with them. Create a smelly basement with toxics and fumes, a vulcano, a dangerous cave with lots of traps. I'm just triggering your imagination here.

Don't think I read anything about when this closes? ... or perhaps I should have. Off to fix something else in my world.

gamegeek8,

the contest is open for EVERYONE, as said on the post. :)

If you refer to the 'qualification to host'-part right at the top of my post, that's MY qualification to host, that shows I know at least a bit of what -I'm- doing. :D

Bushes...

The the ad pic. Does it have to be just one screenshot, or can it be a collage of screenshot, just in one pic?

Yes, it can be a collage of many pictures.

gamegeek8,

thanks, but I have to say no for now. While I appreciate your enthusiasm, it might be better if you completed at least one contest (this or another one) to get familiar with how the contest system works. :)

Hello!

I'm currently working on a lot for this contest, and I'm super excited and motivated...

Thanks!

cutsocks,

64x64 is not enough space? Woah. :D

I've been trying to scratch my head on how to answer to your question. I do think I've come to some sort of solution, too.

Do OMSPs count as a knock against the no cc goal?

armiel
21st Jul 2013, 7:29 AM
Jones,

um, good question.

Omsp's are mods though, not technically items. So ok, I'm gonna have to allow them, along with other similar -mods- such as curtain shifting mods, EA content unlockers, and stuff.

So as long as the visual content is EA's, from game only, you'll still get your CC bonus points.

Non-related bushes: Kate Bush is of no relation to George Bush.

So, I bit off more than I can chew with this. I went way big when I shoulda went way smaller, and it's coming along at a dandy snail's pace. :turtle:
Re. CC, I was using the "helper" building mods that are not required for download if the house is uploaded.
I didn't use OMSPs because they would show up as CC with the lot, but... ehrrrrmehgawddd!
If you're allowing them, I'm going balls to the wall decorating. :D

So then would fog emitter mods (e.g. shiftable, smaller, larger, etc.) be permitted without points deduction or counted as CC?

Corfu was owned by the Venetians from the medieval era until the 17th century; leading to a very Italian feel to the buildings especially in Kerkyra, or Corfu town as it is known to the English. It is a beautiful and idyllic holiday destination... *

I used my Simself and my sons' Simselves for as my active family for this build. We've been to Corfu before and would love to go back there, but it's not happening this year. So I made it happen for my Sims. They wanted somewhere to relax, for couch potato younger son to watch tv and play computer games, for rebellious elder son to camp out and play with fire, work on his motorbike, teach little brother to fish, for Sim-me to lounge by the pool and have drinks at the bars... Beautiful scenery, no need for loud nightlife. Horse riding would be good, but I'm not sure I could do that on a resort, and decided for my Sims, not having to do housework was better than riding... So converted the stables into a games room.

Well. This has been a huge learning curve for me. Not so much the building, though I've only been playing Sims 3 since December 2012, and didn't play Sims 1 or 2, so the gaming and building are new to me, but the photography and using photo editing software, getting images resized to an ok size... It's taken me so long to get photos with enough lighting to see what's there, to get stuff edited that I'm entering now. If I don't enter now, I'll run away and never do anything with them!

I won't be uploading the lot, Error Trap does NOT like it and I get 'several' notifications for the resort while playing here. (For 'several', read well over a hundred...) I've had not routing problems while playing in it though.

- You MUST use CFE on your lot. On carport roof (I feel I didn't do a lot here with CFE, but anymore wouldn't really have been in keeping with the build - younger son saw me working on it and said it looked like the place we stayed at in Corfu) - You MUST use CAST (Create a style-tool) on your lot Used in bistro chairs & table on upper level; sofas in games arcade in the Old Stable - You MUST use FOG EMITTER(s) on your lot Used to create waterfall: waterfall_2_short at top and 2 X waterfall_2-shortsplash at the bottom (first time I've used fog emitters!); - You MUST EDIT THE TERRAIN of your lot in the means of shape and paint. For waterfall, pond and stream; under play equipment and round carport to add use marks to them, in bin area to provide hard standing under bins and round water troughs to show darker grass from extra water.

Edited to say, no Custom Content or stand alone bought Store items used in the lot (the only Store item I've bought that wasn't in a world, expansion or stuff pack is the multi tab, I did get the family those to encourage Denzil to do his homework - oh, that Rebellious trait! :) ) I'm pretty sure one of the arcade games came from the 60s, 70s and 80s Stuff pack though.

Edited again to put elevations and floor plans in post. Hope it's all ok now... Ah well, second competition I've entered on here, so I've entered and done my best :)

* All pictures shot on location in Monte Vista ;)

Whehey, my first entry! :)

At this point, the contest time almost being at the end, I pretty much started to think you guys either made tricks to my head and kept your entries till the last minute, or just simply weren't interested to plunder with so many rules. ;)

Couple of more days left, so I hope to see at least a few more entries so we can have a proper judging! :D

PlayinSafe,
as posted right above your question,
"as long as the visual content is EA's, from game only, you'll still get your CC bonus points."

So yes, unless you use custom effects (has anyone even made those for TS3 yet?), then using a mod that alters their size etc. is just as fine as using OMPS's, curtain mods, or any other such thing.

As a clarification, using NEW game items, such as my chimneys, build set/buy set, piano... (yes, lol, all examples are my own stuff), then you would not be getting your bonus points.

Still, frantically working on my lot. Aside from spending the week I'd planned on working on the lot at relatives and my original idea for the fog emitter not panning out (I have a back-up plan though), I've been having some vital CFE issues that I'm having issues resolving. (So many issues that I get ticked off and work on other lots for awhile...) However, I'm still gonna try and finish up. Though, if it comes down to it, my additional lot has all the requirements and could work.

I went massive, and yes, it's kinda biting me in the ass... :/

It's difficult, you need somewhere big enough to get everything you want in and not feel crowded. I wanted to use Monte Vista and be overlooking the sea, but as I started to take photos, realised I needed to move trees on the hillside above the resort as I was taking photos of foliage and a bit of resort :faceslap:

Thanks, Armiel. And yup, there are shiftable fog emitters and different sized fog emitters out there. Yay!

And see, silly Finn, no head tricks. ;p We've just been quietly busy laying stone, mortaring brick, and sawing lumber. :)
I've been chipping away at it as much as I can & play-testing as I go, as well. It's been a really fun build.
I had to start over 1/2 way through, so I've spent a lot of time staring at grids. And I've learned that my UI disappears at whim in buy/build mode now, so it's been an unrelenting challenge of patience, indeed. ^^

I'm intrigued, cutsocks. I keep thinking mini-world. Hmmm...
And Volvenom's going for the double whammy, as well. Cheesh.
And I'll just be struggling with pictures. Damn flighty UI. :lol:

Can't wait to see some more entries. :up:

I wanted to say since deadline is coming up that I do really like this contest and I HAD planned to enter... but I think I picked the wrong time to finally buy Skyrim... the 20 minute load times and the crashes just don't seem as worth it in comparison. I will make one last attempt though before I call it quits, though. I have one idea left that I like too much to not attempt at some point... the only question is whether it will be done in time.

I'm going to make two entries in two posts. Easier for me and better for the judges probably. I hope I've got it all sorted, it's kind of a lot to organize. I have them in two different games as well, just in case :wtf:

The Spanish Steps is a fountain lot with a ton of fogemitters and some cfe used. It's also a stage here. Zoned as a live showtime venue at the moment. Pretty fabulous, but perhaps I missed the brief on this. Good thing I have the Resort lot coming.

Size 30x50, Price 109k/58k. No CC, but some store content included. Posted in two different bulks to make sure it's not going to crash on me.

One of the most elaborate country estates of the Gilded Age, Mistlemire Hall was built by Otho Crumholdt for his wife, Helen. Situated on St. Rorrick's Isle, he presented the home to her on their twentieth wedding anniversary. The Georgian Revival mansion features a grand hall over looking the grounds, an art gallery, parlors and offices for both Mr. and Mrs. Crumholdt, an aviary, a billiard room, garage for four, and a swimming pool with hot tub, exercise room, and sauna in the basement. The master suite has dressing and baths for him and her. There are five additional bedrooms, each with attached bathrooms. Four bedrooms and two restrooms are reserved for staff as well.

Lot size: 64x64
Price furnished: 1,045,300
Games needed: ALL OF THEM, except 78&9, Diesel, and Sweet Treats.

No CC or Store Items.
Everything CASTed.
CFE colonnade to the most elaborate gazebo ever, as well as compressed 1/4 floors and other various bits.
ep2spiritfog x2 used in the sauna. (Other ideas did not pan out, so it's a bit lame. :/ )
Much terrain shaping, built on hill/outcrop.
Terrain paints as needed.
BUSHES!!!!

I'm a bit obsessed with the Gilded Age and the super wealthy thereof. My inspirations were Horace Trumbauer's mansions, especially Lynnewood Hall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lynnewood_Hall) and Whitemarsh Hall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitemarsh_Hall). Whitemarsh was demolished in the 1980s, but Lynnewood is still standing but only as a shadow of its former glory. Mistlemire Hall is my most crazy lot ever, and despite its massiveness, does not ever begin to compare to either of those. My eventual plan is to upload the lot as a small world, with the grounds (my additional 64x64 lot that barely in the final photos I used), a beach, a small residential lot, and base camp.

Just edited cutsocks entry in, thanks for taking part! :)

-----------------------------------

then as a side note to all my contestants who entered before this post...
since I allowed editing your entries till contest is closed for judging, I might as well say this, and I'm sorry I didn't realize to point it out earlier, but cutsocks entry made me realize something that has been missing:
All images except the ad need to be min. 800x600px up to max. 1280x1024px and uploaded to the thread!
I must have been half asleep reading this thread in the mornigs, but yea. This particular rule. If your pictures are not uploaded to the thread, technically by the rules I have to mark the pics as forgotten, and thus remove quite a few points from your scoring. So I sincerely hope you see this note, and go edit your pics in!

There is still time till midnight to do those picture edits. Oh, and there is still time till midnight to get a couple of more entries in as well!

All the entries so far look very interesting, and I thank you for your efforts to take part! :)

Only 3 hours left Tee :) Perhaps this can be added a day or so if we can get in more participants that way?

Oh darn, I dont think I'll be able to make it. I miscalculated how much time would be left! :( I'll try to get it done if I can though and post it anyway, even if it wont be judged!

Volvenom & Cutsocks-- holy shnike! Awesome, awesome lots! :up:

My lot's done and the blurb's been saved in Notepad, just have to do pics & then edit them.
To cuss at my game, wait for rendering, and my lack of photo-editing skills, don't think I can make it in 2 hours. :faceslap: Just got home so gonna try like heck.
Sadly, I'm with Aree. I put time into it with fancy hopes of timeliness, but...
Well, I'd like to post anyway just for fun, if that would be okay. -?-

I'm sorry to say, but since this contest already had a month to get your entries in, the time when it will close for judging will hold - Only entries posted before the time runs out will be judged and compete for the prize.

But, you can still show us what you made if you have been building for the contest and can't make it in on time. :)

Entries already in, if you missed it, please scroll up a couple of posts and see the note about the pictures!!

Yes, thank you. :) That's what I meant, armiel. :) To show entry for fun with realization of not being official entry.
With regrets of being untimely, I do have to show gratitude for the inspiration. ;) It was really fun to build this one!

ETA: Got pics done but the required overheads & part of front are have failed miserably with rendering. Previous pics I took don't show finished lot as is (i.e. finished).
ETA: And dayummmm. Just checked game & the front just now finished rendering. :| 30 mins...

Not meaning to double post, but don't want to edit my post as the confetti's falling on the countdown timer. :)
Just apologies for not putting pics in spoiler. Just now realized as I see it. And I didn't have all of the requireds uploaded in time. Ahhhh, so close.
But thanks for the challenge! It really was fun for me and forced me to use CFE & fog emitters, which I should do more often.
Great entries everyone! I hope to see these lots for download! They're awesome! :D

ETA: Seriously, frantic just breeds oopsies. :anime: The mod credits are incorrect. I changed the lot day before yesterday but now see that I forgot to correct my notes.
I did not use HystericalParoxysm: Concrete Parking Barrier, Buhudain: OMSP Resizer, or Buhudain: Fog Emitter/Small.
And I accidentally uploaded a pic taken before the lot was finished. The snack shack is about the same, but should have fish on the side. I guess nobody would know if I didn't say.

Thanks, Volvenom. :) Would that I could present it better.
I purposely haven't played much because I haven't had a graphics card. Gone since right before patching & getting IP, to boot. Card's apparently coming on a slow armadillo from Texas, so Tuesday will not get here soon enough! Hoping that will fix all of my game errors. This challenge was irresistible though. Suck graphics and disappearing UI couldn't stop me. :p

You made it in just on the last second PlayinSafe! :)

The contest is now closed for judging!
I need to PM my judges about the judging, and make them a template for the scoring (just maybe I should have done this already).

Tomorrow evening I'm flying back to Finland, and will most probably spend the Sunday -sleeping-, as it is a night flight with long drive to home afterwards. But I'll try to get the judging running today, so we might have the scores out on the 5th at the earliest, as promised.

Seeing how Qbies contest has ~50 entries or even more now, I'm kinda not sad at all that I got only a couple, really great ones! If there is someone who had a lot in the makings but didn't make it in time, you can still post pics so we can look at them in awe.

Thank you for everyone who participated, by entering, or just by posting questions and comments! :)

I’d hoped to get entries in for both this and Q’s contest but apparently my time management skills are still lacking. >_< I had grand ideas for a Las Vegas style themed resort but I didn’t get beyond the basic structure. (In my defence I was MIA for the first half of the month! Lol) I do however, have a little house that I built when the 1.55 patch came out that I intended to be a holiday home for those who didn’t buy the EP so I’d like to show that as a just for fun entry :) ...it’s not exactly a resort but it’s the best I’ve got atm ;) Anyway...

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/2/7/3/9/2/3/3/MTS_missroxor-1381117-1_CastawayCottageAd.jpg
The castaway cottage is perfect for sims who’ve just had enough of city life, enough bad tv, enough nagging bosses, enough gossipy neighbours, enough... anything and everything! This tranquil little haven has no tv, no internet, no cell service – not even a path to dry land so you can truly cut yourself off from the stress of everyday life for a week and indulge in the luxury of reading a good book without interruption or skinny dipping under the stars without prying eyes upon you. What could be more blissful?

I used CAST and edited the terrain but did not use CFE or fog emitters D: I tried to go back and edit once I realised this would fit the contest but couldn’t think how to incorporate them.

CC Used:
Curtain height adjuster and OMSPs by Granthes
Stencil remover by VelocityGrass

Thanks to sciver from #create who came up with a better name for my entry in 5 seconds flat than I managed in several hours :lol:

PS I did use more than 5 types of plants but I didn’t realise until I was editing pics just now that I didn’t take any close up pics of them >_<

ETA: Piss! I typo'd on my ad >_< *"rough seas of life!" That's what I get for working on it past my bed time :faceslap:

First of all I want to thank everyone who took part on this contest!

While I only got a couple of entries, I'm not whining at all, made the judging a lot easier anyways ;)

Speaking of which.... I have...

SCORESIES!

Here is the spreadsheet of the scores. You can see total scores, as well as individual judge's scores. The scores have also been categorized, so you can easily see when you got the most points and so on. And green, there just has to be green, cause I was too lazy to edit pics of bushes in. ;)

One big link that you need to click to see the scores! (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AgM8xXRBez8CdG00SUs1ODJkNUVWZ204UTlNTVdjQUE&usp=sharing)

Notes about scores
The scores on the totals table have been averaged from the individual judges tables, and rounded up to one decimal.

I do have a great sad I had to take of points from nearly all entries for not uploading the pictures to this thread as asked. Maybe you missed the rule, or it was unclear. But I poked about it after I noticed some people had done so, and since you didn't edit your entries in time to attach the pictures, the scores hold. But it would have been a lot more even competition if you had done so... :/
Formula for pics scores
10 points minus 3 points (front,back,floorplan(s)) minus exceeding amount of allowed inline images

I have also asked judges to write little comments on each entry, so here they are:

Comments for Villa Omorfi
Your hotel looks like a really fun place to spend a holiday in! You also put a lot of thought and effort on your description. Some of the pictures are very small, so I had to really squint my eyes to see better. But all in all your entry is very nice!

I must say that I liked your idea. I love your lot poster, it sure gave a good advertisement of your lot. With the country side and the sea, thats a sure bet for family vacation.You sure did give a vivid description of your lot and that was encouraging.Though your images were good, taking images that shows your work closer but not from a fad distance would be good for a next time.

There was clearly a lot of effort put into the lot conceptually, it's planned out well and everything seems purposeful. The description is the most detailed of all the entrants. It’s clear that the terrain painting and sculpting is purposeful, but the execution is a bit amateurish. I admire the use of CFE and the use of the Fog Emitters- although it isn't grand and spectacular; it is very good for someone who is new to the concept. It's a little hard to see just -what Sims might experience! The photos of amenities are mostly from top-down angles and quite a bit small. All and all, it's a very good effort.

Comments for The Spanish Steps
Looks like you put a lot of effort on your ad picture, great! The lot is in general very well executed, though I wonder how a family of sims would spend their holiday in there, as it seems more of a place to go just for a day or a couple of hours. Very nice work with the fountains!

I love your creative idea. The park and the hotel looked wonderful. I had expected to see more of the terrain editing in the park. Regardless you had 2 beautiful entries.Your two information poster that advertised your lots are just spectacular. I love and love both. I love the garden in the hotel.

Although there is very little text description and the terrain is mostly flat, this lot if just straight up pretty. There's a lot of drab gray, but the focal points are all just gorgeous. I -love- the hanging garden over the bistro tables. It's clearly meant to go in the middle of a city, but it is stuffed with multi-color plants. It seems as though a visit to the Spanish Steps would be a pretty short one- It's not a place you'd sleep overnight, but it does look like a destination to visit whilst on vacation.

Comments for Fredvang Resort
Again a very nice ad picture! This entry is a lot more suitable for a place to spend a holiday in - I can see sims having fun in there for weeks if they just want so. All in all a nicely made lot, with lots of little details.

I love your creative idea. The park and the hotel looked wonderful. I had expected to see more of the terrain editing in the park. Regardless you had 2 beautiful entries.Your two information poster that advertised your lots are just spectacular. I love and love both. I love the garden in the hotel.

Again there's little text description and a small pockets of beauty surrounded by drab gray. It seems cozy- but at the same time has quite a bit of luxury like the in-pool bar, the fountains and the sitting areas. What it lacks in cfe tricks, it makes up for in pockets of prettiness. It makes some damn fine photos, and that is a pretty good tourist draw.

Comments for Mistlemire Hall
Wow, you really went big! This is a great place for sims to spend a holiday in. The lot is also very well presented, and you read the rules about the post too! There is so much to see, I'm sure the sims will be thrilled to spend their holiday on your lot. :)

Your mansion looks WOW and I had expected to see a very good advertisement poster. You have a great introduction with the under letter, if those were in colour rather than the black and white, it would have been awesome. I must say, I love your landscaping, although I had expected to see more of terrain painting there.The interior is just wonderful. While I enjoyed this, I was a bit confused to which category of the theme your lot falls into. Despite that you did a great job.

WOW. It's such an impressive structure and the heavy use of CAST and CFE is refreshing. (Although the interior is a tad monotone.) The ad concept is great (a letter written to a good friend along with black and white photographs? that seems pretty compelling to me.) I really appreciate that objects are placed off-grid and that rugs are skewed just so. It looks much more natural, although it is a little haphazard for a lush estate. The staff seems to be a bit lazy in that respect :) But all and all, it's enormous, well planned, well executed, and just all around grand.

Comments for Roadside Kitsch Stop
I know you had to rush with your post, otherwise you would have probably scored a lot higher. The lot is beautiful, and so full of fun things for sims. You have put a lot effort in the build, layout and landscaping. Good job!

What can I say, Firstly your advert image is gorgeous. I love the whole concept of your Kitsch stop and your advert slogan will surly bring visitors in. I love Your terrain painting combined with its landscaping. Its just too extra beautiful.

This place is abso-freaking-louty adorable. Out of all the entries, it's the place I'd most want to visit. I'm sad that I had to remove points for not having the photos uploaded to the thread itself. There's so much detail in the sculpting, painting, CFE and for emitters. It's not the most grand or elaborate adventurous vacation spot, but it's not meant to be. It's that rest stop on the highway you can't help but stop to explore. Butterflies, fireflies, lobsters, pigeons, a giant rusted out dinosaur, a giant lumberjack and some pretty places to lounge by the lake- I'm sold.

General notes from judges
Great job with your entries everyone!

I must say everyone did a very good job. Apart from the essence of a good contest, this was also a test on following instructions. I know that sometimes we get a bit confused about certain things, but it would not hurt to ask about it. Thank you all for participating and it was an honour and a privilege in judging your entries.

I am really sad I had to remove points from all the entries except Mistlemire Hall for not uploading the photos to the thread itself. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be The Roadside Kitsch Stop all the way.

And here is the WINNER!

Who won + my greetings
I want to congratulate cutsocks for winning this contest!

Please poke me by my name/nick in the chat for your prize once you know what you want me to make for you. I am online practically 24/7, though I do sleep at times. ;)

I will see if you have beeped me by nick/name, and will get back to you as soon as I see the message. But I prefer the chat over site PM's, as it is so much easier to discuss stuff real time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Finally, I hope you guys had fun with this little contest! Who knows, maybe I'll make another one in the future, if I come up with some ideas. :)
Thanks once again for everyone!
Happy simming,
Thank you for hosting this competition, Armiel, I really enjoyed taking part as well as looking at the other beautiful entries - i would love to take my Sims families to Roadside Kitsch Stop as well as my real family :rofl:
I will try better next time! I did expect to have the lowest score, and if I hadn't already posted when I saw the other entries, would not have had the nerve to post mine - I absolutely agree that it is amateurish and that some of the photos are too small. My homework is to make that better :)
I hope other people reading this who thought about taking part but decided they couldn't compete with Volvenom's, cutsocks' and Playinsafe's entries will try another time. This is the second Sims competition I've entered, and if I can do it, you can too!
Edited to say missroxor's lot was fantastic too!
missroxor- That is the sweetest little get-away!
I'll say it again, this was a really fun contest with really awesome lots!
Thank you for hosting and for the wonderful inspiration, armiel.
And thank you to the judges for your time and feedback.
I regret not having a card or PC that could keep up with my endeavor.
I do wish that I could have pulled some wizardry on my graphics for some really great pics of the lot. Soon... very soon.
Congratulations, cutsocks!
When I saw your lot, I said holy shiiiii* :) So very impressive!
Woo! Yay! :D
This contest was lots of fun, so thank you very much Armi and the judges!
I really had very different plans when I started out, and only after the contest is over do i feel comfortable sharing, without putting the idea of what "could have been" in the minds of the judges. I have a way of trying to put my own creative spin on things, and I was hung up on the concept of the "ad" and the use of the fog emitter. The initial idea still involved the gilded age mansion, but it was to be in ruins (sorta like Lynnewood is or Whitemarsh was before it was demolished). My ad was actually going to be like a book cover. "Mystery of the Gilded Ruins" or something, like a Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew book, with a blurb on the backside that said something about going to summer camp and exploring the nearby abandoned mansion. There was to be fog emitters galore, weird lights and bug and fog and everything. So I built the shell of the mansion normally, and worked out the layout of the rooms, BUT... my efforts to ruin the mansion with more CFE did not go well. I was really way too much for me, too complex, and I got frustrated very quickly, and was having no fun at all doing it. So it got the normal, non-ruined treatment (after i got back from family) and a letter as an invitation with included photos for an ad. And of course, the super lame sauna fog emitter. :/ The other "additional" lot was far more important with the ruins concept. Oh well.
Of course, my idea of a vacation is to look at buildings or art or just exploring. I could care less about relaxing, I do that enough everyday when I watch TV. :P
However, I thought the other entries were fantastic. I was pretty sure I wasn't gonna do well since I did not make a resort or hotel or camp or lodge or entertainment type lot. My skewed ideas usually barely fit within the general concepts for most contests I enter... :/ And when Armi pointed out the picture upload thingie, I kept praying that everyone would get all the pics done right... (I read over the rules about a hundred times while preparing my most, 'cause I'm paranoid like that, and didn't actually pay attention to the upload requirement until about the 60th time myself...)
Volvenom's Spanish Steps, I think, is my favorite. The fountain looks amazing. I love the pinks and purples, and the fact that it reminds me of Guell Park in Barcelona didn't hurt. (Was only slightly disappointed it was not THE Spanish Steps in Rome, but that's okay. :P )
The Roadside Kitsch Stop is so cute and so well CASTed and decorated. It should have won. Fit everything perfectly, 'cept the photos... Playinsafe will definitely learn to read/understand rules better from now on, I believe.
Villa Omorfi was also well done, including about everything a family could ask for in a vacation spot. I like the the touch of having a workshop/garage for "dads" or whomever to keep occupied. In terms of gameplay thinking, I don't think there's a reason for Sims to leave the lot!
Once again, thanks for the fun!
And I'll hit you up in chat eventually, Armi.
