Official MTS 2016 Calendar Contest: The Sims 3
Use your creativity to showcase your sims in a shot fitting for each month of the year. The picture should be a scene with sims in it representing the "feel" of a particular month. Have the family gathered for Christmas dinner? Beach party in June? Romantic dinner for two in February? We'd love to see what everyone can come up with for this year's calendar. Please use northern hemisphere seasons.Season expansion pack and use of seasons holidays (Love Day, Spooky Day, etc) not required.

3. CC is allowed. However, please make sure to follow MTS rules for CC; no pay content.
4. Pictures must be 1000 (width) x 750 (height).

Judging and Scoring
Judging will be done by a panel MTS Staff and these are the things that the panel will be looking out for when entries are judged.
Theme - [i]Does your picture represent the month you chose?
Creativity - Originality of idea
Style - Use of space, props, is it pretty?
Rules - CC adherence, no editing, inclusion of month

Prizes

A calendar will be made for download with each winning month.
And, of course, the blue ribbons for each month’s winner.

Questions
Q: I already entered 2 separate months for TS3. Can I compete in the TS2/TS4 calendar as well?
A: Yes, you may. You're more than welcome to submit for all the contests, giving you 6 chances to win!

:alarm: The picture you post will be your final shot - make it good. Posting a random picture of a christmas tree, easter bunny, yourself, etc to reserve a spot is not allowed and it will be deleted.

Once your post has been added to the table, it may not be changed. Do not change the picture, you may not delete it and enter a new month instead, etc. If you choose to delete your entry, you are removing yourself from the contest and no further entries will be permitted from you.

If anyone is notified that they have used pay content, their entries will be disqualified. The spots they had will NOT be held.

I have a quick question: When you say no editing, are you talking about *any* type, or just no painting additional stuff in? Because I can make a Camelry shot for August with everything except power glow effects and Laney's hat. However, I have very specific standards for lighting and color grading, and tend to run my shots through a color filter to achieve that specific look.

Would my color filter and film grain technique break the rules as well, or do you just not want me Photoshopping weapons or clothing details in? I would appreciate knowing. I'm not even going to try to attempt a Sodality or Q-Basic Gorilla picture, because those are impossible without at least some Photoshop.

Though I don't know what your examples are, the rules are no photoediting at all, including filters, effects, etc. The only exception to this is the obvious cropping needed to get your image to the correct dimensions.

PLOT

It's August, and September is right around the corner. Kids will be a-learnin' again soon. Dromedary Heights is very particular about its start of school days, and they don't much like that Xironooti the Alien is still loose. But what silly nonsense will he do this time, in his quest to avenge the death of his evil cousin Xiboruty? Why, create a Shakesbear of course, to make kids not want to learn literature! (And destroy the town while he's at it!)

Laney the Laughable was already at the scene, ready to spread some joy; but was interrupted by the reveal of Shakesbear. And she was all set to retire from super work to become an ordinary circus clown! So much for retirement. The Camelry is re-assembled to deal with the threat, as the Judo Iguanas are still missing. Lightning Hobo is glad to help, but needs some friends. Sadly, they're all in Camelorum Correctional because of their dumb luck from two years ago, before there was a Camelry. Thankfully, their defeat of Xiboruty and Utkitroll has proven that they are more than just criminal misfits: they're super-goofs with hearts of gold. Clumsy, but well-meaning.

The Camelorum staff agrees to let the Camelry assemble for a third time, to ensure Shakesbear doth not deter the learning climate.

IN THIS PICTURE

Behind Shakesbear are the Camelry members, minus some of their post-processing effects.

Left to right:

- Johnny Geriwall / Lightning Hobo: Homeless man with lightning powers. Nuff said.

- Emily Barnes / Semaphore: Her hair changes colors to communicate messages. Or because it feels like it. Skilled athlete. Inmate at Camelorum because she was involved with a major accident involving the two Jens as well, and tried to flee the scene.

- Barry Navoz / Ion Boy: He tripped over a wire at a party, and the chain reaction of following Rube Goldberg-like events resulted in him accidentally destroying a million-dollar car belonging to a vigilante known as "The Gnat." While at Camelorum, he was attacked by invading space aliens and given powers to hover and to manipulate ionic chemistry.

- Jackie Regg* / Laney the Laughable: Accused of stealing Wi-Fi though it was never proven, Jackie got tossed around by one system after another; for her irrepressible spirit in the face of torture. A series of confusions resulted in her and a gal named Marissa being transferred to Camelorum. Tired of the abuse, Jackie escaped one day and then joined a circus a short time later, where she was reincarnated as a super clown. She was recruited by Lightning Hobo to help him save Dromedary Heights from Xiboruty - and became a hero in doing so.

- Carly Rancine / Maddening Rod: Things glitch up when Carly gets near them. After Xiboruty hid a battery inside her, he went to stupid lengths to erase all public conscious memory of her existence. She awoke at Camelorum one day with no memory of how she got there - and not even her own family had any memory that she ever existed. The staff decided to keep her there until they could solve the mystery of her origins. When Utkitroll rampaged Dromedary Heights, however, she discovered that she had limited control of her randomness aura if wearing black gloves. Logically, she joined the Camelry. Having a sense of purpose in her glitchy life made a huge difference in her attitude - thus improving her chances of being released from Camelorum.

- Janet Joblin / The Glob: Also Xomified, this sassy black woman is like Marvel's Blob in many respects, though not as huge. She is just as tough to beat, however. She calls herself "Glob" because "Blob" is "already taken." (There are three different Globs in Marvel too, but don't anyone tell her that!)

Oh no you dinna-in't just deny her, girl! She'll sit on you! She got sent to Camelorum after falling through five floors of a skyscraper. Before she knew how to turn her power off, she could manipulate gravity around her and became so heavy that they needed a forklift to get her out and arrest her. She became the Camelry's top bruiser.

- Candace Mason / Lemon Witch: Xiboruty attacked her in her own bedroom, and some sort of tentacle-like things went all over her face and into her ears. When she came to, everything she pointed at became a June bug or a fruit. Scared, she ran away to a mall. Where she foiled a robbery, but also turned a cop into a lime by accident. The media was quick to give her the moniker that has stuck with her. She learned wearing yellow gloves allows her to control her power. She waits for the day she'll be permanently free from Camelorum custody, but is determined to prove herself a hero with the Camelry in the mean time.

If you'd like to see the Dozinematized edited version not being submitted here, with the effects added in, it's here (http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j130/bulldozerbegins/CamelryCalendarEdited_zpsfoige1u2.jpg).

Camelorum Adventures and the Camelry are co-owned by me and Prodigal-Gamer at DeviantArt.

*Jackie Regg / Laney the Laughable was created by me and Barefoot-Inmate at DeviantArt.

PS- This isn't Laney's original hat, but a close substitute. The edited version features more details.

Very good question. I didn't see anything saying to the contrary. Just that CC can't be from paysites. I use non-pay CC and custom poses galore in my Camelry August image. And use props in an unusual way. I really don't see why that would be such a horrible thing.

Touching. A tip on the lighting though: don't be afraid to position some ground floor garden lamps just off view of the camera, as well as cheats to change the light colors. Those horses look awfully blue, unless that was the plan. I know it's too late to change it for purposes of this contest, but you'd be amazed what a little light positioning can do. For my August image, I had to hide the garden lights in front of the statue serving as Shakesbear, so that the Camelry's eyes would have proper eye-lighting. For best results, have all indoor Sims with extra-bright lights and have all outdoor Sims in shots be facing the sun at 3-4:30 PM in most neighborhoods. This may seem annoying; but at least it isn't SIms 4 lighting. There, you need Photoshop.

The idea was for it to be dark, as in the middle of the night and it was suposed to look like it's their only source of light. I looks more shadowy to me than blue too. And I'd like to point out the mare was kind of a blue/grey colour to begin with. (According to my friends anyway. I'm slightly colourblind so this was a challenge for me.)

I have the opposite problem: hypersensitive to glare, and have super-sensitive green cones. If the colors are even a little off, it drives me buggy. I can see how that would be a challenge.

June: Pride Month (in the United States)
I've worked on this for hours upon hours trying to get it just right, and now it's done! Easily the most effort I've put into any picture, ever, and here it is:
http://i.imgur.com/IZmzwlk.jpg
Had two create two custom poses (based on existing ones), a custom mirror (with grey screws instead of gold ones) and a custom mesh for Amber's pants (to hide a clipping issue with the shoes). This is fun! Hell, I might even have time left to do another one in TS4.

Also, for the uninitiated, I gave Holly a bisexual pride flag or two.

@Amira11 - in response to your question, your entry has been submitted for January since you posted the edit/error before it was added to the table. Only once an image is added to the table can it not be adjusted. I edited your entry to reflect the correct month :)

@BlackKittiee - See the Screenshot Basics (http://www.modthesims.info/wiki.php?title=MTS2:Creator_Guidelines/Screenshot_Basics) for help on getting good pictures. Once you have a nice picture, you'll need to open the image in editing program (I use Gimp, which is free) and crop the dimensions to 1000x750. I would strongly advice not to resize the image to make it larger because that will result in a picture of poor quality.

At last, I have some real competition for the August slot. Just a quick tip: Even on shots like this, the garden floor light comes in handy. You want specular highlights on your Sims however you can get them, so they don't look like clay golems. Also, make sure to use hideheadlineeffects true so those annoying thought bubbles don't show up. They really take away from what you're trying to achieve. Otherwise, really good image. And it fits the general idea of August. I went with a "Back to School" theme and included the Camelry largely to promote Prodigal-Gamer's series. It fits, and is not cliche.

However, your image, while cliche, definitely evokes a warm and very August view of things. So...great job. But keep my tips in mind.

Both very true. You can't tell from the image, but my shot is actually full of (invisible) lights. I have a bunch hidden behind and beside the camera, an on-set I have more. They're great, whether you're inside or outside, whether it's day or night. Turning off headlineeffects is the first thing I do after loading up the game. I have a macro for it, along with 9 other cheats. To be honest, I don't know why the plumbobs still exist in the first place. Don't get me started on the thought bubbles - they're awful.

On another note - and this might come across as rude - graphics settings. If you don't have them maxed, you're doing it wrong. I have SSAO, FXAA and 16x anisotropic enabled, along with several other (small) improvements to the graphics...my PC might be old and dusty but it can still run TS3 at 1440p60 with everything cranked up to 11. Also, not to boast or anything, but I think you can tell I put like 9 hours into the shot. Or rather, I think I can tell when others haven't.

Good point. I had to look back to see which image was yours. Can't say I agree with the themes, but I will admit looking at purely the technical aspects of your image that you spare no expense getting your images to look clean and vibrant. What PC are you running, and which video card? I'm using a 2010 HP Pavilion P6540y with a built-in integrated circuit. I had to reinstall my game to remove some viruses from it, but my performance at 1024p res now peaks at 20fps with edge smoothing turned off. I have to turn off edge smoothing, or my camera moves like it's chained to a boulder.

I usually shoot my images at 1024, then I crop them with Photoshop with an interpolator to 1080, then downsize to 720, then blur the backgrounds with forced DOF to get rid of jagged edges and bring my subjects into focus. I then run the lighting through a filter process I developed, to make the images look more cinematic. I couldn't use the filter process for my submission here, but I supplied a Photobucket link for those wishing to see what the image would have looked like had I been allowed to run it through my filters.

I went witth the Camelry because getting them to look perfect requires bare minimal Photoshop intervention, and could be skipped for purposes of this contest. The Sodality would be impossible, as Ciem, Earwig, Emeraldon, Extirpon, and pretty much everyone else requires at least some post-production effects. The Q-Basic Gorillas adaptation I came up with is completely impossible without added digital fur, so I didn't even bother with them this time. (That, and I envision their world as a Michael Bay movie. Adding all the sunsets and lens flares and explosions would take too long.)

What PC are you running, and which video card?
My PC isn't anything special - just an i5-3350P, 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM and an EVGA GTX 650. It'll run TS3 maxed in 1440p at >30 frames a second, so that's okay I guess. Any recent releases are out of the question though, and since I'm sick and tired of having to play GTA V on Medium settings, the entire thing's due for replacement soon.

The weird thing is though, this might be my main PC, but it's not my most powerful one. The other one's got an i7-3770K, 16 gigs of RAM and an MSI GTX 960, which is obviously quite a bit better. I don't get to use that daily due to a complex personal situation, though. It's way overkill for The Sims, but I'm thinking of taking my next build another step further. Somewhere in the i7-6700K, 32 gigs of ram and two 960s in an SLI kind of further.

I didn't really understand the rest of your comment - you got a little in-depth there. My preferred method of taking screenshots is taking the screenshots, cropping them in the GIMP, and if the situation allows for it, editing the picture a little to hide imperfections. I don't do any of that dark room stuff you were talking about...

Quick question about the "pay content"..... Would Anubis' furry skins be considered pay content since you do have to "donate" a dollar to get them, or I be able to use said CC since I got the skins via a work around (http://simscave.mustbedestroyed.org/index.php?topic=29730.0)?

I'm asking since most of my sims use these skins, I wish to enter this contest, and I don't really want to make one-off sims just for this contest.....

That's pretty powerful. All I have is an ATI Radeon 4200 HD integrated chipset, 8 GB RAM, and a 1TB hard drive, running Windows 10. While 20fps is ideal for it, my rates sometimes dip down to as few as 8fps.

On rare occasions, I'll travel somewhere and use my laptop - a Dell Inspiron 13-7000 2-in-1 that can run my games with graphics settings almost maxed, and at 40fps on a good day (though it usually dips down to about 25.) Since I mostly do office-type stuff and internet-type stuff now instead of actual gameplay, I can get away for a little while with subpar gaming machine performance. I already know getting GTA 5 is out of the question for me, and am still skeptical about GTA 4's abilities to suit my narrative-telling needs. I know some have modded their games to put Spider-Man in them, but what of female protagonists? I would like to put Ciem (the entire Sodality, really) in GTA 4, but I don't know if that's possible. (And it would take me forever to learn how to code for that.)

As for my "dark room" stuff...

Background > Copy > Set copy to color > Desaturate background > Copy the color layer into a hard light layer > Copy the hard light layer into a normal layer > Make all colored layers invisible > Tweak light levels on original layer > test colored layers by making them visible and tweaking transparencies until results look good > merge layers > burn, dodge, and blur tools where needed > film grain > tweak percentage of film grain alteration to image > color variations > selective color sliders > photo color filters > any additional tweaks.

I have most of this process automated, but will do it manually for shots that don't look right with the macro version.

Also, I do most of the process manually when shooting in 3D, because anaglyphs demand extra-special attention to detail. And if making it a red-cyan, require an extra white and an extra red overlay, to compensate for the cyan lens allowing more brightness in. For Trioscopic (green-magenta) 3D, only a white overlay (luminosity compensator) is needed, because the lenses are of equal brightness (thus, fewer headaches when viewing.)

I have yet to make MPO format, which would do away with the usual anaglyph issues and need for luminosity compensation, but I don't have the refresh rates, VRAM, nor compatible monitor for either autostereoscopy or battery-powered glasses 3D. Otherwise, I'd play Sims 3 in 3D, as it'd feel so natural to move around in a world as binocular as my own. The sub-par Second Coming of 3D, however, has convinced me that high frame rates and UHD are the more immediate future, and 3D's true big day is not gonna be for quite a while. However, YouTube adopting a standard for 360-degree video has me optimistic.

I'm submitting this one for August since this is what I was doing in that month. Anyways, no editing was done except for resizing it on Picmonkey. Also no pay content was used. All the custom content shown is from lianasims, the sims resource (not a paid member so yes, free cc), modthesims, and the official sims 3 website.

Is this calendar meant for the northern hemisphere only? It seems to be when reading through the rules. And images I've seen submitted so far indicate that is what is expected. I've never experienced a cool January and my idea of Christmas is beach and sun and heat and trying to keep cool.

I'm Swedish - so the Santa-White Christmas-tradition is deeply anchored in me... But I've spent the last four years in a muslim country in Eastern Africa, with December temperatures around +96°F (compared to 129 in summer it was "cool"). Well, Santa came on a camel no less! Or in helicopter to the air force base my husband was stationed! Santa at Sheraton was black, making the kids ask some rather funny questions! :) But I agree with you, I personnally prefer the Christmas cliché from my childhood, when we waited in the kitchen, watching the snow fall until Santa arrived, bent over from the strain of carrying his heavy sack filled with toys... :)

I honestly don't know why. I don't like supernaturals, and I'd never have them in my game, but why your screenshot got that many dislikes is beyond me. To be honest, I'm also quite surprised mine got 4 dislikes. I put a lot of time and effort into mine - and it shows - so I'll just write it off as homophobia or something. There will always be haters, and I choose not to care about them.

It seems that, like in all other corners of the internet, there are people who have nothing else to do than to dislike everything,
even if they don't have a real cause. I have no idea why they do that. If I don't like something here I simply do not click anything.

Your dislikes are a little more understandable. A sexual topic in a calendar contest is ripe bait for that sort of thing, even if the actual sexual part is muted considerably. There's also distinction of not liking a particular activity or the philosophical / moral implications behind it, and not liking an individual or group. It does get messy, and a simple down vote doesn't explain things very well.

With mine, it's superheroes against a monster, a topic that has been considered safe for most audiences of most ages since at least the 1960s.

There might be some controversy over the fact that I re-purposed the fairy mechanics to make a levitating ionic chemistry manipulator, or that I have a character named "Lemon Witch" even if she's not technically a witch in-narrative. (The media gave her that nickname.) The other thing I think might have caused it is Lightning Hobo. For some reason, even acknowledging that the homeless exist is controversial in some places. (I created him as a G-rated substitute for Hobo with a Shotgun.) Laney might offend hardcore Harley Quinn fans, as she's pretty much Harley with the serial numbers filed off.

I'm thinking what may have set off the majority of dislikes is that the Camelry consists mainly of reformed convicts and ex-cons, which may be morally confusing for some viewers. Then again, Ant-Man was a huge success in theaters. So I'm at a loss on that one.

I try not to sexualize them too much. I was kinda worried they seemed a little too uh, passionate in the picture, but I went with it anyway. But hey, I'm a straight guy whose favourite Sim ended up being a lesbian all by herself. I never expected it not to get awkward.

So it's kind of a shaky issue. I guess it's just another case of "Fuckin' deal with it".

I've a feeling that one disagree-er from the pictures subforum has been at work again. You know, that mysterious person who makes sure that every image post that even implies the existence of LGBT people gets a 'disagree' click?

And then when one person clicks the button, other people feel better about doing it, I guess.

They definitely aren't too passionate in that picture though. It's just the typical garden variety homophobia and double standards and shit.

It's like those naive conservatives I always run into on Twitter - I should be ignoring them, but I really, really like arguing. You know they're F'ed in the head, you know they'll never see the light, but part of you just wants to try anyway. Hahahaha. Don't you know, if you're a same sex couple, holding hands is being intimate. Well, judging by the stares and the glares and such that tend to result. Same sex couples are judged by a whole different scale when it comes to these things. Gay hugging = straight kissing, gay kissing = straight making out, etc, etc. It's why there's an uproar any time even the most innocent of same sex romances are depicted in anything targeted at kids. It's bizarre, but then homophobia in general is bizarre, so what do you expect?

Okay, y'all, I've let this go on long enough. If you want to have a discussion about same sex couples, I am sure there is plenty of room in the discussion forums. A comment about the disagrees was okay (people always disagree for the damndest of reasons, damn internet trolls) but we have 2 pictures entries, my official post and an Australian santa. The rest on this page are completely unrelated to the contest except in the vaguest sense of how they relate to an entry.

I think it's because you made the photo for the month of August, but honestly...it looks like it would fit October (for Halloween) so much better. That's immediately what came to mind when I saw it. Plus, they're all wearing long pants and shirts, which fits better with fall than summer.

If the advice is solicited, perhaps a PM maybe, or a thread on the Sims Pictures forum....sort of an informal CFF for images?

But once someone has entered an image in a contest, what purpose does it serve to criticize it?
If the contestant is swayed by your personal assessment, it's too late to replace the image, anyway. S/he risks disqualification.

In such cases, hitting, or not hitting, the luv-button is critique enough, doncha think?

I should hope next year's calendar challenge allows for some Photoshop (within reason). I would LOVE to do a September calendar image depicting the Second Battle of Dephinapolis from Sodality: Vindication. It'd be a lot like the Battle of Sokovia from Age of Ultron, and to depict either in Sims 3 would be intense.

Even if I had to scale back and settle for a December image depicting the fight between the Gray Champion and Blackett from Shaken Dust for the fate of Jonseboro, that would still be intense. However, Gray just doesn't look right without some post-processing done to his mask. And I picture the Battle of Jonesboro looking like a scene from Thor: The Dark World, so I'd love to get that cinematic lighting if the contest rules are changed to allow it.

If that's still too effects-heavy, I could do Navyrope and Tiffany's escape through the caves at the end of Navyrope 2 and make it a November image.

If the contest is for determining the 2017 calendar, then I should probably scale way back and do a scene from Pilltar 2, which takes place in 2017.

I could do some banter between Seth and Stephanie regarding her in-court outburst of "Actually, I'm the Strawberry!" That scene of the two discussing her backfired attempt to protect her boss in court from a lawsuit - and the resulting contempt charge on her - would lead to them sharing a moment of friendly banter as he's visiting her while she's in a jail somewhere. I could probably render the inside of a jail in Sims 3 with no special effects, as I've built a lot of jail sets for Camelorum Adventures and the aesthetic is easy to reproduce. But I'd want to research Des Moines to make Stephanie's being there look believable (though most viewers who don't live in Des Moines probably wouldn't care if I fudged it.)

However, this is all probably a pipe dream.

I should hope next year's calendar challenge allows for some Photoshop (within reason).

I guess the reason why they don't allow using Photoshop is that they want it to be fair
for all who want to take part and send in their screenshots. I know a lot of people who have
no idea of how to use PS, Gimp or similar programs. So they don't have a chance to make
any changes on their screenshots. Someone who is used to work with Photoshop or similar
could make minor changes, add or delete things and so on and that would be unfair.
Even the use of a filter can change a screenshot completely. So it is the best if they do not
allow any manipulation to keep it fair for everyone. But that's just my opinion. ;)

Isn't that part of the challenge? I don't think it's at all weird to say it shouldn't be my problem when someone else doesn't know the tools they're working with. It's either all out for me, or not participating at all. I'm sure I could've done a lot more with my screenshot if we were allowed to do any kind of editing.

The reason Photoshop is not allowed is because it's a game contest, not an editing contest. I'm sure a lot of people could put out some gorgeous pictures if some of the sims stuff I see on Tumblr is anything to go by but we want raw material stuff that truly depicts the game.

I work with Photoshop for about 20 years now and surely could do a lot of editing on a screenshot.
But that is not the point of this contest. Like Heaven said, it is about Screenshots and not about edited pictures.
So everyone can take part, everyone gets the same chance and that is fair for everyone.
I have no problem with not using any editing program here. If I don't win, someone else just had a screenshot
that looked better than mine. But it wasn't because he or she had better editing skills....

I don't care so much about not allowing photoshop, or GIMP etc.. But.. Just one thing, if we're going by what's "fair" to everyone, and doing things "raw", and vanilla, that doesn't quite go, cause for one, NOT everyone knows how to use mods. Not everyone knows how to use the pose player, people who know, have automatic advantage.

I for one, didn't know how to use mods for the longest time, (and still don't know how to use some of them) that aside, poses themselves are quite a bit of editing, and altering of basic Sim movements and interactions, and really any kind of mod in general could probably do the same bit of editing a photo program could do, since there are mods that can change the sky and water etc... It almost really ads up to the same thing.

By that token, should we just allow base game only? Because, you know, not everyone has the same expansion packs? :wtf:

We don't allow editing because, as I said, we want it to be about the game. Not necessarily vanilla since CC is allowed, as are mods. You're not required to use them and it doesn't make photos any better. In fact, there are probably at least a couple winning images that were "vanilla". Poses don't alter the game anymore than animations. That's all poses are - single frame animations (some are even specifically from certain game animations). If anyone has an "advantage", it's likely the people who have spent hours and years learning how to take good screenshots. They know what angles look better or how to frame a picture or even what animation they may need to portray a certain action.

"By that token, should we just allow base game only? Because, you know, not everyone has the same expansion packs? :wtf: "

That's not at all my suggestion, but on the basis of what's considered "fair", wouldn't that be the only action to take? I'd think so.

Poses do give the pictures more character, and even set the overall mood of a picture, I'd say they enhance quite a bit. Some poses are from the game, but many are made from magazines and photos of actors, or models. And no, poses aren't required, but pretty much all who entered used them anyway, cause they add more artistic touches.

I do understand not wanting someone to cut and paste their sims to a Star Wars poster in Photoshop or something. I understand wanting it to be about the game (though I don't think a few lighting enhancements in Photoshop would hurt anything).

My only point was the claim about "fairness", in terms of who has more advantage (for the most part) in knowing how to use mods, and who doesn't, is the same as claiming those who know photoshop have an unfair advantage, over those who don't.

1. The mods and CC that some contestants may use are Sims game-centric mods. That is, they are created for the SIMS games. Photoshop is not.
These contests are about the Sims game and/or images from the Sims game - something we have screencaptured from our open Sims games.

Photoshop is not a mod (let alone a Sims mod). It is software that you are suggesting we should be allowed to use AFTER the fact.

2. Knowing how to use game cheats and mods is a skill that can be learned, like painting or quilting.
Would you claim that your Great-Aunt Mabel has an unfair advantage in a local quilting contest just because she's been quilting for 40 years?

These contests at MTS provide fun for the participants and the viewers, but they also spark people to learn.
Someone sees a winning image one year, and learning that the winner used buydebug lighting or Pose Player, they might be
more inclined to try those out. Sometimes seeing the results of a mod in use is enough to give someone the motivation
to download that mod and try it out in their own game.

p.s. You might have noticed the name of this site: MOD the Sims?

Photoshop is actually a modification program.

"2. Knowing how to use game cheats and mods is a skill that can be learned, like painting or quilting.

Yes, now you get it! it IS a skill that can be learned, Photoshop is too, and it doesn't take years to learn the basics either, just some YouTube tutorials, (which is how I learned how to use mods actually).

"p.s. You might have noticed the name of this site: MOD the Sims?[/QUOTE]"

Yes, I have, which is why I find it a bit odd you are so against Photoshop, because it is also a modification program. If this was the official Sims website asking for no Photoshop, that might make more sense because they'd rather not promote creators there, but here, it's about creators and modding the game.

Look here, you can be offended by what I say all you want, and I could keep going in circles, but I won't. Again, all I'm doing is pointing out a hypocrisy in this contest that is a fact. Continue on ignoring it in the future if you want, it's completely your choice.

I'm glad my response helped you to finally realize that MTS members using mods
and game cheats are not taking "unfair advantage" in these contests, after all.

I hope someone here will be able to explain to you the difference between a game mod,
and a graphics editor. Because Photoshop is not a mod; it is a graphics editor.
It does not modify any game coding. It changes the appearance of an image.

You might try one of the help sections.
(You'll find them under the word 'Help' in the bar across the top of this page. Just click on that for a menu.)

Welllllll...now that the contest is over, probably time to close this thread up.

Mymobilename, you might personally feel there is hypocrisy in the rules but none of the members who actually participated in the contest appeared to have any issues. Perhaps revisit the issue next year if the contest continues.
