There is a bug using the GUI version (v3) of this mod with GTW, it can push the option to take paid vacation time off from the phone for sims with careers that have an additional phone option (e.g. negotiations). Until I can figure out a fix, it's probably best to just use the older cheat command version of the mod.

Version 3 Update - This update is REQUIRED if you are running the latest game patch (March 26). The old cheat command version is still compatible. Be sure to delete the old version of the mod when you update.

Version 2 and Later Includes a Career Fix - This can be used to fix the career branch for a sim who quit their career and rejoined it later. This bug can cause problems with future promotion and unlocking promotion rewards. Open the cheat command window and enter the command sims.patch_career_branch A message will appear indicating whether the patch was successful or if the sim's career branch was not bugged. This command is included in both versions of the mod.

Both versions of this mod are script mods, even though there's also a package in the full phone-based version, so make sure you read the install instructions below if you feel you must skip my wordy (but well-intentioned) introduction.... **sniff**

Change Career Branch Mod

The Sims 4 won't allow sims to change their career branch once they have chosen one. Once my professional gamer sim got tired of playing games and wanted to start up her own tech business, she insisted that I do something about this. So, not wanting to disappoint her, I poked around in the game to find out why changing the career branch isn't allowed even with testing and debug cheats. Because that's what I do -- and do my sims even appreciate all that work?!? Of course not! I have yet to have a single sim thank me, and they continue to take a break from entertaining me to do absolutely stupid things like....

I digress... my apologies...

This mod works by carefully making a sim quit their career (for a few milliseconds), erasing their progress in their current career branch, promoting them to the top level of the original career and then promoting them AGAIN so that they can select a new career branch.

Simple.

Okay, maybe not simple. But at least I made it simple to use! The full version adds a "Change Career Branch" menu item straight onto the sims' phones, so even a stupid sim can now change their career branch.

The choice will only show up on a sim's phone if they have a career that can actually be quit. If they haven't progressed far enough to be on a career branch, they'll spend a few minutes on the phone only to be yelled at by the boss saying they can't change their career. I mean, you can understand the boss's anger at being asked to allow them to change from being a journalist to an author when the sim isn't even a journalist to begin with!

If all is well, the sim will be fired, docked a month's pay, and promoted back to the point that they can choose a new career. (No, they don't really get docked any pay!)

For the braver soul (or those running an old version of the game), there is also a cheat command version that adds a sims.change_career_branch command to the cheat console. This isn't available with the normal version, but you can always install both versions of the mod - it won't hurt anything. The end result is the same whichever version you use.

Installation Instructions and Compatibility

For easiest installation, I strongly urge using The Sims 4 Mod Manager by Raxdiam for a fully automatic install, or you can install manually. Manual installation is only suggested if you are familiar with combination package/script mods. See below for more information.

Princemajik also covers the manual install process in a mod review on YouTube. Although this video is for the SimLotto mod, the same technique is used for this mod.

Script mods must be enabled in your game options for this mod to work properly, even if you install with the mod manager.

This mod was written and tested on Windows for The Sims 4 version 1.4.83.1010 (February 3, 2015), but should be compatible with any version since 1.3.18.1010 (December 16, 2014) when the interface for the phone was changed.

The cheat command version should work with any Windows version since 1.0.732.20 (October 1, 2014).

This mod will likely not work on the Mac unless it is updated to version 1.4.103.1210 (February 20, 2015). This update is critical for Mac users anyway, see Issues with Mods and CC in The Sims 4 on Mac for more info on this patch.

No XML files were changed for this mod, everything in the package is new and the script injects the new XML into the sim's phone. As such it should not conflict with any other mod, even others that modify phone menus.

Manual Installation - Phone Version

The zip file you downloaded should contain a package file and a zip file ending in _Script. Place both files into your Mods folder, but do not unzip the zip file ending in _Script -- that should end up in the Mods folder still zipped.

The mod will only work if BOTH the _Script zip file and the package file are in your Mods folder.

If you wish, the package file can be placed into a subfolder, however the script file must be placed directly in the Mods folder.

Manual Installation - Cheat Command Version

Just put the zip file containing the script into your Mods folder. Do not unzip the file and do not place it in a subfolder, but directly in the Mods folder.

Both versions can be installed if you wish, they will not conflict.

Hi, there seems to be a problem though: I'm not getting the career rewards items as I go through the promotions. Also, I am not able to buy them in the Build Mode even though I've completed the career.

Any ideas/fix?

Same here. I stopped using this and the "reset career branch" from MC Command Center works perfectly.

I followed all of the instructions and Change Career Branch is now on the sims phone but nothing happens when I use it. I also get an error when I try to use the command. Something about the career not being bugged. His career is athletic and I'm trying to change it from bodybuilder to sports.
Thanks

Hi,

First I'd like to thank the creator of this Mod!

So...I'm getting the exact same issue that Gneeh described here - My sim is going down the 'Professional Athlete' branch but I actually want them to go down the 'Bodybuilder' branch.

Is there a reason for this?

I installed via The Sims 4 Mod Manager by Raxdiam method.

I tried the phone method but nothing happened after my sim was clicking on his phone.

I entered the command sims.patch_career_branch and I got 'sim does not have a bugged career branch'

Please help - many thanks!

Does nothing on my end (version 1.40 of the game). I've tried both the phone option and inputting the cheat command in the console - nothing happens at all except for some phone dialing animation. I do have the mod and scripts .zip directly in the mods folder, no subdirectories.

Hi. Same here, doesn't work anymore. The sim do the animation on the phone, but nothing happens.

EDIT : After a few research, i found this mod : http://modthesims.info/download.php?t=562008.
It gathers the cheat codes of the game, and add the change career branch (with allowed of the author of this mod) with a version which functions correctly.

The career code in the game has changed quite a bit, so it will likely be some time before I'd get to updating this. It may even require a complete rewrite.

I just found this mod after a bit of searching, and was quick to download it. Much to my disappointment, it wasn't working. After checking these comments to see if it was something wrong with the mod itself, or just on my end, I realized others had the exact issue. The selected Sim would complete their animation, pulling out their phone and poking it for a bit before putting it away again, but nothing would result. No pop up, no notification, nothing.
I then attempted to download the above linked mod (leading to me to a "Cheater Mod"), which also did not work (I could not find any of the shown interactions from that mod's screenshots).
I then tried to test the Command only V2 of this mod, ran the sims.change_career_branch command as shown in this mod's description, and it immediately brought up the branch selection popup, resulting in a branch change.
In conclusion, the Command version of Change Career Branch (V2) seems to work perfectly even on version 1.56.52.1020 of the game, while the Phone version (V2) seems to be broken.

I had the same experience. V2 worked just fine.
