Default Foster Care Challenge!
I wanted a house full of simkids and a challenge to feel accomplished, but the Orphanage Challenge is overwhelming and the Legacy Challenge takes too long... so here's a little something I cooked up for myself! Let me know what you think and if anything needs adjusting, or post about your own foster homes!

The Foster Care Challenge

Storyline:

Your sim took one look at the overcrowded state of Sim City's few orphanages, and immediately swore to do their best to help out! They can't open an orphanage of their own... but maybe they can provide foster care for a few kids.

Permitted CC:

Custom content is allowed, provided it doesn't make the game or the challenge significantly easier! (stuff that actively makes you money, makes skilling easier, etc.)

Challenge:

Create a sim with any personality and aspiration you like. Find a house that's within their budget, and furnish it with at least 3,000 simoleons to spare.

Call social services and arrange to adopt. Since you have an empty household, a fresh sim, and 3,000 simoleons, your sim should be approved for adoption.

From now on, whenever you have enough money and less than 8 sims in your household, your sim is compelled to call social services and adopt. Your sim cannot get a full-time job away from home for fear of leaving their kids alone, but they might work part-time on community lots, paint, write novels, or depending on your expansion packs run a home business, farm, dig for treasure, etc.

Roll for aspiration as per Legacy Challenge rules whenever a child becomes a teenager. Teen jobs are fine. Teen romance is fine. Teens may go to University (if you have one) three days before they become adults, but not before then. Teens who grow to become adults MUST leave foster care.

Points:

+5 for every child adopted
+10 for every toddler adopted
+20 for every infant adopted
+5 per skill point earned
+20 bonus per skill maximized
+10 for every toddler skill mastered (including nursery rhyme)
+5 for learning to do homework
(+5 per talent badge earned)
(+10 per gold badge earned)
(+10 for every "life skill" mastered)
(+20 for every hobby maximized; put the plaques somewhere so you can keep count!)
+5 for happy birthdays
+10 for platinum birthdays
+10 per outside friend
+20 per lover

-5 for motive failure
-10 for aspiration failure
-5 per skill point lost
-20 for death on the lot
-20 for getting pregnant/married! You could have used that household space for the kids who need it more! (keep this in mind if you like Risky Woohoo/Teen Pregnancy hacks!)
GAME OVER if the social worker takes your kids; you're unfit for foster care.

Variations:

EASY MODE
- Sim City gives a grant every week you have more than four foster kids. Each Sunday, you may use "kaching" once.

HARD MODES
- Have your sim befriend and adopt stray pets as well (if they exist).
- Start on a big lot.
- Use a hack to increase your possible family size.

Started taking this for myself; ran below 3k at three kids, but earned enough the first weekend fishing to get a fourth on Monday.

Progress:
Micah Foster (Founder)
++ 20 for 4 skill points (cooking, cleaning, logic)
++ 10 for two talent badges (bronze/silver fishing)
+5 Rhianna Foster (adopted as child)
++5 Learned to homework
++5 for 1 skill point
++10 for two talent badges (bronze/silver fishing)
+10 Jamie Foster (adopted as toddler)
++10 for toddler skill (potty trained)
++10 for toddler skill (nursery rhyme)
++10 for toddler skill (talking)
++10 for platinum birthday (toddler > child)
++ 135 for 27 skill points (Creativity, Logic, Charisma)
++20 for skill maxed (Creativity)
++20 for skill maxed (Logic)
+5 Dante Foster (adopted as child)
++5 Learned to homework
++5 for bronze fishing talent badge
+10 Stan Foster (adopted as toddler)
++10 Toddler skill (potty trained)
+10 Family Friend (Kathleen Chapman)
+10 Family Friend (Jessie Fox)
+10 Family Friend (Benjamin Burton)
- - - - - - - -
345 total, end of Week 1 in-game. Rhianna's about to become a teen since she was the first adoptee, and I think Jamie's got stuck Smart Milk, so he's been skilling instead of fishing.

There is one thing that needs clarifying. Are we supposed to try and adopt the whole starting group at once, or one kid/toddler/infant a day?

As far as I know, one per day is the fastest you can go.

I didn't know, because I've not really used the adoption feature before.

I have a house that should be empty in a few days from another Foster Home-type Challenge. It may have enough room for all the Sims once I kick out the original owner and send the last 2 children to college (once they grow up to Teens). Is it ok if I use that same house or must I build a new house totally from scratch?

I also have an aging and University question:

1) I normally send EVERY Teen I play to University and then move them back to the base neighborhood (I can wait for the 2 day rule to avoid being penalized seeing as I am gonna need those Teens for helping with the babies and toddlers, which I am skilled at playing and growing them up in Platinum. Toddlers are FUN LOL). Am I allowed to pick and choose who gets moved back in to be one of the 4 adults in the house?

2) Teen Aspiration: As all the children are spawned, when they transition to Teen, does the game give them a random Aspiration? Or can I roll for them Legacy style (or Prosperity style)?

This sounded like a really fun challenge, so I had to try it.

Meet Natasha Dobryi.

Natasha recently visited Sim City Orphanage and saw how crowded and unhappy the children were. She decides she will adopt as many of these children as possible to give them a better start in life. Even though she lives in a small house and only has 3000 simoleans to her name, Natasha believes that she will be a good foster parent for these children.

Natasha adopts her first child, Merissa.

Merissa is happy to have a new home and a new foster parent. She has been in the orphanage since she could remember. Merissa loves to paint, draw, and play piano. In this photo, she is reading Natasha's arts and crafts magazine.

Merissa and Natasha get along splendidly.

Natasha and Marissa are spending more time together each day. Natasha plans activities for Marissa like fishing, playing games, and going shopping. In this picture, Merissa and Natasha are enjoying a good game of chess.

Natasha adopts her second child, Cory.

Natasha is now the foster parent of a toddler boy named Cory. She will have to take more responsibility to care for him because he needs more attention than Natasha's first foster child. The first thing Natasha does is to teach Cory how to talk, walk, and use the potty. Who new taking care of toddlers is so much work?

Natasha adopts her third child, Isis.

The social worker brings Natasha's next foster child, a baby. Natasha named the baby Isis. Natasha thought taking care of toddlers was the toughest job ever. Wrong. Taking care of a baby is much harder: awakening to screaming at 2:30 in the morning, changing dirty diapers, and fixing bottle after bottle. A foster parents job is never done.

Cory has a birthday.

Cory is now a child. Now Natasha can pay more attention to taking care of Isis. Cory like to play games and listen to music. His favorite game is "don't wake the llama" which he plays with Merissa every day.

Isis is now a toddler.

Isis has finally grown out of her baby phase. Natasha couldn't be happier, so she throws Isis a birthday party and invites Merissa's and Cory's friends over. Now she must spend time to teach Isis how to walk and talk and use the potty.

Natasha adopts her fourth child, Drake.

Natasha decides to adopt another child to keep Cory company after Merissa has her birthday in a couple of days. Cory is really smart and friendly. He loves anything to do with nature like hiking, camping, fishing, and gardening. In this photo, he has just reeled in a big blue catfish.

Merissa is now a teenager.

It's time for Merissa's birthday. A party is planned and Merissa becomes a teenager. She likes to take care of her little brothers and sister. She feels that even though they are not related, she loves them like she would love her siblings. She keeps pestering Natasha asking her for a car, but money is tight at the moment.

That's all for now. I'll try to post updates later.

I do have one question though. When does the challenge end? When the foster parent is an elder or when she dies?

What am I missing? Is the challenge just to see how high you can score before the founder kicks the bucket, or is there a way to "win"?

This sounds fun, starting a fresh 'hood on a brand new laptop, so could be a good way to bring in some fresh blood, since my CAS population tends to be a little polished to look at :P

Gave this a shot, to help populate my new hood.

Four happy adoptions, my founder is finally making a bit of money as a writer when tradegy strikes! It's a typical morning, all the children are off to school, when Anna decides to fix a little hardware issue in her PC, to save the cash it costs to hire tech support.. Few seconds later, she's on fire and there's noone home to save her Q___Q

The children return to an urn and big piles of ash. Now I'm working on getting all the kids through college, and they'll carry on their mother's good work, by becoming adopters themselves. Perhaps not as compulsively as their mother

Good kids all of them, with a little bit of everything from the random Maxis pool. ^__^ Including a pretty, dark-skinned girl with carrot hair and green eyes. Gotta love the random genetics!

Anyway, good challenge - unless your founder catches fire (not recommendable)

Default The Elderly Parents Challenge
In this challenge, the purpose is to create an elderly couple straight from CAS and play them, but you may NOT give the couple the family aspiration. When the elderly couple has been plopped into the neighborhood, it's time to build them a home and try to make them earn enough money ($3000), so that the social worker will accept their request to adopt children. To make the challenge even harder, you may start with only one elder sim. It may be harder with one than two, because it may take a little longer trying to earn enough to defeat the minimum requirement to adopt children.

After you adopt your first child, you have to adopt more children by adopting children on each consecutive day until there is not enough room in the house. The maximum limit of sims per household is 8, so that means you can adopt up to 6 or 7 children. You may adopt babies, toddlers, or children. The younger the child is, the harder it will be.

If the adopted sim is a baby or toddler, you must teach the little one to learn ALL the toddler skills of walking, talking, and being potty-trained. For training children at a faster pace, you may want to use smart milk and thinking cap. Children must be taught how to study by their elderly parent(s) before transitioning onward. Teens have to strive to be overachievers and super-learners, even though their aspiration cannot be Knowledge or Fortune.

When a teen grows up and moves away from home, and there are younger children in the house, you must adopt another child as soon as possible to fill in the gaps. However, if none of the children leaves home for college or settling elsewhere, that means that by the time the youngest child grows up, the challenge would be game over.

You have access to all aspiration rewards. Please note that this challenge assumes that you are playing the game with the EA-established game mechanics.
Doing all the things, and *mostly* not failing.

I think this will be perfect for poor Kaylynn the maid in my game! She was raised in the foster system after being given up by her parents long before she could remember. She'll never know that she's the baby a teenage Nina gave up after Don got her pregnant at the prom. I'm going to download some interesting looking sim kids and toss them into the foster pool and see which ones she gets.

Okay so I'm starting this challenge. Noelle and Arianna started adopting kids today. I've got a weebly site up for the progress along with some other characters i do. I'm supposed to start another challenge as well but I have to redo all the couples for that since my hard drive died and erased all my progress.

EDIT: I so far have six children adopted. Three kids. Three toddlers. One toddler grew up from a baby yesterday.

I have mods for any number of people in house, and adoption is always allowed (& child shows up the same day). This is OK because it will only make me crazy? But what about having pets to make money?

Stand up, speak out. Just not to me..
