You have to choose only one premade 'hood to play. Which are you choosing and why?
Of course you'd have your subhoods, but I'd also be very curious to see how you would play with only the main hood available (and a university, probably - I feel like those are non-negotiable.) Mine would be Strangetown. Veronaville is so appealing to me, but I can never really get myself into it. Strangetown stimulates my imagination the most of all of the Maxis 'hoods, and I'm able to really clearly conceptualize how I would continue designing and expanding the neighborhood - a military base, some retro suburban looking streets, motels, a dingy bar. I have trouble enjoying the supernatural in more normal neighborhoods, too, but I feel like anything goes in Strangetown. It gives me a kind of early Supernatural feeling.

I've been playing my BACC with the Strangetown terrain map based on the EA premade one because the EA premande towns can get corrupted awfully fast and the terrain map version is clean.I only have the main town so far and a campus won't happen until after a few generations though a shopping district will be needed much sooner because the town will run out of space for building fairly quickly.

I LOVE Strangetown as well !
Maybe b/c I have put so much time and effort into the story for it.
I've kept the name for it but named the 3 shopping districts "Fallout", "Event Horizon", and "Paradise Falls".
The Downtowns are "Apocalypse" and "Ruins".
The main playables are survivors and rebuilding their lives after the "Apocalypse Event" and learning a trade and barter system; as cash is now worthless.
(Although the bills keep on coming and I haven't modded them out.)
Many of my residents have saved and scrimped their belongings or home made items to barter for a solar panel or two.
Also I have an old-fashioned windmill that helps to defray energy costs.
Nervous Subject was renamed Logan and met a lady named Annie Howell (I got that from reading the early versions of Strangetown and it was a girl he liked in the psp version I think ?).
Together they had two children.
Loki and Circe have kept their name but that is all they've kept !
They were evicted for sundry insulting 'experiments' to Logan and now live as squatters far down the road towards the edge of town in Strangetown and survive with a small garden and scavenging the garbage can.
The Grunts were renamed "Gunnar" and the boys grew up and moved to "Apocalyse" which is a permanent winter in the games' main default Downtown.
Buzz remarried and keeps his dead wife's tomb in a little flowered shrine and is haunted now and then by Lyla.
The Curious brothers have passed away for now but not before they each gave birth to a daughter; the three girls live in the same lot as their dads but remodeled it to reflect the current unrest in town and to keep watching their telescopes.
PT9 and Johnny passed in the nuclear meltdown but Jill and Jenny have rebuilt the house into a simple cabin and Jenny met a new man who helped them rebuild their lives.
He (Jose Barrrera) lives in a little trailer on the property.
The singles family (MeetMe2TheRiver renamed these sims correctly, so it's Erin Beaker, Kristen Loste, and the two aliens women Lola and Chloe Curious have been consigned to the cemetery in Strangetown for now, "Boot Hill".) moved to Ruins and live in the town there.
Ajay Loner is a townie and has had a bit of a makeover to make him look a bit older and not so boyish.... now he sports a goatee and slicked-back hair.
Ruins ---the second downtown is built on Psychosims' Harbor SC4 with is skyglobe and water effects.
I can recommend it !
Sorry for the long explanation... I'm so wrapped up in my sims lately.
Can't go anywhere so at least my sims get to go on trips !
I like your idea of some motels and a dingy bar for my Strangetown !
I'd love to see some pics of your Strangetown sometime !

Been using Pleasantview for ages as a setting for stories (but I haven't played much with the premades), so I guess that one, purely for the looks. I have little to no interest in playing out the Pleasantview drama, though.
If it was for the purpose of playing premades, I'd choose Strangetown. I like Curious household, and I've always had an interest in the alien aspect of Strangetown (especially the "area 51" look). It's the only hood where I've felt I can just run wild with the aliens and other strange sims. Besides, my little green baby sims need a place to park their UFOs when their parents are busy abducting the Curious brothers or Bella...
The others I've barely played, mostly because I haven't had too much interest in the premades. I've always prefered to make my own sims.

I'd have to say Pleasantview since I like the characters the best. I played Sims 1 a couple of times as a child,s o I was interested in the "sequel" to the old Sims 1 neighbourhood. And well, the characters are arranged in such an intriguing soap opera drama that it's easy to get swept up into it.
Strangetown would be a close second, since I also like the characters and enjoy the desert setting. And, of course it's the only neighbourhood that has alien characters, so that gotta be a plus.
And those two are pretty much the only two premade main hoods that I play.
I've hardly ever touched any of the expansion hoods. I don't really have anything against them, but there just never seemed to be any time. And Veronaville could be swallowed up by a giant sinkhole for all I care, it's the only neighborhood I dislike, both because of the architecture and because it really doesn't live up to its premise as a modern Romeo and Juliet interpretation.
And Veronaville could be swalloed up

Taking an extended break from Sims stuff. Might be around, might not.

I mostly (90%) play custom hoods, but if there was only an option of the pre-mades I would play Strangetown. I guess because it's quite different from what I would make myself.

As much as I love Veronaville, I feel like it only shines with subhoods added so there's more than 3 families and the town's family tree doesn't become a wreath within two generations. I'd choose Strangetown, I like every single family enough that I'd probably play all of them.

Strangetown. I have made many experiment hoods and Strangetown caters easiest to that in my opinion. Also loved playing Sims 2 PSP my second official sims game I owned after Castaway. So that definitely influences my idea of what Strangetown is like.
All the mayhem of the unnatural variety and antiquated history with the town basically fuels my decision.
of course my own game is a monster of mashed together all premade hoods and Sims so there is that too.

I'd definitely go with Strangetown! I love all of the different ways the stories can go and I've just always loved the premades.

It’s a toss up between Pleasantview and Desiderata Valley. I love the drama and characters of Pleasantview (Lilith is my fav) but I also love Desiderata Valley for one reason and one reason only - NATASHA UNA. I adore that sim.
I love the characters of Strangetown but to be honest, I don’t like the desert that much. Veronaville I can take it or leave it, and same with Riverblossom, Bluewater and Belladonna.
You can call me Diddy (or Eve, if you want to go by my real name) :)

I think you'll all know my answer without even reading this post. Of course it's Veronaville, which I've been playing since the day I first started up the game. I love the town and I love the Sims who live in it. I've posted two quite wordy explanations of why I love Veronaville recently (here and here), so I won't bore you all by saying it all again. If I'm honest though, it's my CAS Sims, and some of the ex-townies, who are the biggest attraction, rather than the pre-made playables. And I do like the old Tudor-style houses which give the town its character; I'd like to live in one. :lovestruc
Adding CAS Sims and making some of the townies playable did it for me. I'd fallen for the town long before I got to know the pre-mades. I play it with sub-hoods now, but I was enjoying it long before I added them.
Tarlia's Veronaville is a bit of a problem as it lacks the townies, so you get almost nothing but Montys and Capps fighting each other. I did try it briefly to test something, and it was deadly. If you want to play it, I'd strongly recommend generating townies, or, better still, you can download all the proper Veronaville townies from my LJ. I play the original Maxis Veronaville (I've never stopped playing it), and I love its townies.
The sub-hoods attached to our Veronaville are Downtown (Maxis), Bluewater (Tarlia's) and Monopoly Game Town (d_dgjdhh). The latter I have renamed "Monopolis". I added the empty version of it when I was taking part in d_dgjdhh's Monopoly Game Town Contest.

I'm going with Belladonna Cove with an addendum - no apartments! I never used to play it because I don't like playing apartments. Now I've taken them all out and replaced them with houses, I absolutely love the town and all it's different levels and areas. I've got a kind of class system in place and mini societies within the big neighbourhood. People get to leave their little farm and move to the city without having a bunch of sub-hoods, and I can have party towns and beach lots and all these wonderful things. I love it!

Pleasantview. Because that's the promise I made about 10 years ago. "I'll be back, as soon as I find and test the most perfect mods that are available for this game."

If I had to pick, my choice would be Belladonna Cove. Simply because it would be a nice change of pace to see how things progressed for premade sims other than the usual popular ones that we always see or hear about in the simming community.
I'd most likely renovate the entire thing though, and turn it into a full-on metropolitan area with lots of lit-up deco buildings, mini-shops for community lots, functional food trucks for eateries, and only rental homes and apartments for living areas.

Emerald Heights.
Then I'd make clones of all the premade Sims from other hoods and move them in, because nobody said that wasn't allowed.

That's a tough one! I like Belladonna Cove, Riverblossom Hills and Strangetown. I'd probably pick Strangetown, though, as long as it includes all the features of AL and Seasons - as others have said, it feels like an anything-goes kind of place where you can let your imagination run wild. But if I can only have the features that came with the hood, I'd pick Riverblossom Hills, because I like weather and gardening too much to go back to playing without them.

No contest - Strangetown
To be honest, it may be a bit unfair.
Just a tiny bit But then - the Curious boys are so damn cute. And then you meet Olive and the Grunts and the PT himself.

I'm assuming you mean with all the premade Sims. I've been playing Veronaville for 10 years but without the original Sims. If I had to choose from the remaining, with the premades, I'd probably go for Pleasantview for the interesting characters, followed by Belladonna Cove, which I've only just started playing and have taken an interest in the de Bateau family.

I've played in the terrains from Riverblossom Hills and Pleasantview without the sims which was fun though I did play the premande towns when I first started playing to learn about the game though I quickly moved onto using the empty templates and building my own communities from scratch and moving my own sims in.
I'm loving the drama in Dodge with my BACC there and enjoying watching my first settlers there struggling to get homes built and to get settled in before fall arrives. It was also fun watching the Jankowskys struggling through a long harsh winter where they almost ran out of food before spring arrived.

Well there is a Sims 2 version of Sunset Valley. I'm still amazed at how much work it must have taken to re-make that neighborhood from scratch for Sims 2.
https://danies-simsational-blog.tum...s-sunset-valley
I think I would try Desiderata Valley. I've only poked at it a couple of times briefly and found it boring back then. I would challenge myself to actually play it this time and make an effort to make it NOT boring.

Right at this very second I would have to say Premade Pleasantview but I do have new characters there in fact. I only have two main hoods in my game all other are out Pleasantview and my Custom hood Shanghai ( All Asian hood ) I did add Only UV and Downtown and Bluewater just to Pleasantview but rarely go there. I "did not" add all of that to my Custom hood accept I did add college town to my custom hood I love my custom it have everything within the community. Never had interest in Strangetown so I never play it nor do I want to Veronville I played many years ago I no longer have that hood in my game. So it comes down to Pleasantview and my Custom hood Shanghai that it.
