Default Is there a way?
To just play the game like a regular sims game?

After you've completed an ambition, you can chose the quest "Free Play" (with or without responsibilities), that's about as close as it will get. The social system is less robust than the normal sims, and with the lack of aging and inability to change the shell of buildings there are limits on how close to a regular sims game you can get.

Thank you. I can't figure out how to get upstairs in the first scene of the game. It was money wasted for me. I thought it was a sims game set in medieval times. Oh well. Glad you guys are enjoying it, though.

It is... sort of. It's more of a very scripted adventure game using Sims 3 engine. Doesn't have the sandbox freedom of other Sims games, but it's a fun game by itself.
I don't understand what you mean about not getting upstairs. You tried PgUp/PgDwn?
