I answered this question once, so I guess I can answer it again. There is a program called Wings 3D that is easier to use than Milkshape, and it's free. The SimPE website has a link on it that leads to video tutorials for using Wings 3D to create objects. Only caveat is that you can't use Wings 3D to make body meshes.

Wings 3D:http://www.wings3d.com/

Video tutorals website:http://www.artistichabitats.com/index1.html SimPE website:http://sims.ambertation.de/ You will need SimPE for the tutorials.

Hope this helps...

I don't wanna sound retarded, , but what is SimPe, is it another program to create objects? I'm really intrested in creating objects, Which program is easier to use, and that has a tutorial (it maybe in here or at another site), also does this programs require Uni.( because I don't have it!, :weep: ) ? because I found a tutorial by JWoods, it used Milkshape, it's easy to follow but it only says how to do a boom box (or something like that ?!), I wan't to create more objects like plants, specially, beds, sofas and loveseats, etc. so I want a program easy to use, but with the one I can create nice detailde complex objects, also that doesn't require Uni., and that it's FREE ! Thank you.

programs to create meshes NEVER require uni since they aren't part of the game. It's all a question of the base object.

Generally speaking in order to make new objects you need at least four programs I can think of off the top of my head.

A 3d object editor like Milkshape or Wings3D.
A paint program to make textures in.
SimPe, or something like it that allows you to tinker with the internal data of a sims file.
And, the Modthesims2 mesh tool to import your 3D object files into a sims file.

There is no way to run program that does it all with the click of a few buttons. No such program exists yet. Creating new stuff isn't that easy. If you still want to do it, there are tutorials here that take you step by step through making a lot of different things. You will have to figure out how to use 3D editors, and paint programs on your own though, if you don't already know how. SimPe, and MTS2 mesh tool both are explained thoroughly in the tutorials.

For a fast esay way try this its a little outa date iv not had the time to do a new guide.

It may help if you want to cheat. ( Cuts out the linking that get people stuck ) and work well for Newbies.

You will Need: SimPE http://sims.ambertation.de/

Paint Shop Pro

(Or some kind of paint program)

DDS_Utilities

kamyk,
little update
you don't actually need the Mesh Tool anymore,
since the newer versions of SimPE import the obj. files straightaway

but you are right, there's no easy way to make objects. there's no tutorial for every type of furniture
once you know how to make one thing, it's generally assumed that you'll figure the rest out yourself
a table isn't really that different from a boombox.
and detailed complex meshes are never easy
trust me

*Blinks*

You don't? Will all of the tutorials for objects, clothes and hair work as presented if I skip the steps involving the Mesh tool, and just use the import funtion on SimPe?

Note: I am currently working on a new object tutorial that uses the upcoming version of SimPe. I am aiming to finish it when Quaxi releases the new version which has a new beautiful interface that the tutorial reflects on...

The new tutorial does not use the mesh tool but yet the object import/export in stead...

The tutorial I need is how to mkae textures. I know how to make them, but how to make them nice.

A good texture is produced by good UV mapping skills mainly... If you sift through the "Quick Color Enabling" object tutorial pot's you will find an in depth text explination on the subject there...

How do you convert 3DS or MAX files to OBJ files?

i wanted to get SimPE before but after i heard it is still i it's beta stage that if not careful this may ruin your sims 2 game or your whole computer. so i don't wanna get it until it is fully developed because i don't want to ruin anything on my computer

C'mon. The chances are one in a million. And don't forget, SimPE will ALWAYS be a beta.

Bballplaya, there's several in-built safety thingies in SimPE (boy, that sounds professional)
it's not like it's gonna blow up your computer
hasn't done that to mine, anyway
just make sure you back-up your files before you start fiddling with them
if the worst happens, just reinstall the game
people have been needing to do that, even without playing around in SimPE

On the Wings3D website, it says OpenGL is required. I've heard of it before, but Im not sure where to find this program. Is it also open source?

OpenGL is something like directX and open source. Wondows and Linux normally have it.

BTW, as SimPE doesn't support clickable areas, I'm now using a combination of SimPE (import as XZY, export as XYZ) and meshtool (reimport als XYZ, fixing clickable areas) now.

So does this mean I'll already have it on my computer? I have Windows 2000. Sorry if this a dumb question, I don't know too much about open source programs.

Thanks
