Edit: So... this is the 3rd sim day where either parents won't leave their toddlers when Tim is standing outside staring at them (you can't click on the parents or toddlers until they drop them off so there's no way to "accept" them) OR having invisible toddlers dropped off. Tim either gets the missing work moodlet (when the kids don't drop off their kids) or can't click on the toddlers cause they're invisible (and using Twallan's debugger makes them teleport home and the rest of them become unclickable ie: "You don't know this toddler's family well enough"). And I have perfect careers. Crap.

Ugh, my game has decided to up and die on me. I can't enter build/buy mode without it freezing. I don't even know the last thing I Installed content wise, so I'm trying to work backwards to see if I put in any bad cc. And everything was going so well... Heh. I forget how fragile this game really is.

I like Cali's take on the possible rule enhancement, not using the aging rewards until after goals have been completed. I, personally, will also not use any of the money rewards, as that is the biggest challenge when starting out (I have Property Mogul on GEN 2 and have no idea how I'm going to pull it off - but that's why it's a challenge) =)

Kiwi - welcome to the thread! I too love RH, but for sone reason it lagged terribly for me. I will try your new version and see if it works any better. Perhaps if I roll change of scenery I can work in moving to a new town. =)

I have decided to start a blog concerning my legacy, which nobody seemed to notice when I announced it here, it got a bit eclipsed by the age reducing rules thing. o.O I haven't any pictures up yet but I am about to play. In my legacy, the oldest living vampire in my town was born in generation 1. He appears as a teen in my blog in a scene where Foster Enmity is having an autograph session. At that time, my gen 2 heir, Jasmin, was also a teen.
That vampire just turned elder when I was playing yesterday. I'm in generation 7 now, with Gen 8 just turned teen.
So, a vampire heir would have several generations of time to complete their goal, along with a skill bonus that would make maxing careers and achieving LTWs related to skills easier.
We could make a rule requiring that vampire heirs must complete goals before the next heir takes over, but even that could be subverted, as the long lifespan means a vampire can put off breeding that heir until they've completed their goals.
Even a rule requiring vampire heirs to complete goals before they turn adult would still be easy on the player, as the vampire YA stage is longer than a regular Sim's lifetime.

I roll the next generation when my Sim is pregnant. As Buckley said, if you end up with Random Traits or something that needs to start before the heir hits YA in your roll, you need to know that.
Some people roll several generations ahead.

ETA: The vampire issue is tough. Some people really love them, and they are a major feature of LN, so it would be a shame to completely cut them out of the challenge.
I like having them as side characters, but I hate the fast-skilling and ridiculously long lives, so I won't play a vampire heir. The one time I did have a vampire heir, in my previous legacy, I changed her to human as a teen rather than waiting for her to hit YA because I was working too hard at not allowing her to skill so she wouldn't have such a huge advantage.
Vampires can be compelling characters, so I can see why someone would want to have a vampire heir at some point, and I'd hate to deny them that. Obviously if someone wanted to use that to exploit the challenge, they could. I can't imagine what fun someone would get out of that, but I do know some people approach challenges with that mindset of finding a loophole to exploit to make the challenge easy. But I don't want to ruin the storytelling aspect of things just to shut down a loophole someone might exploit. I mean, let them exploit it, what do I care? At least, that's how I feel about it.

I just realized that I lost the challenge. :cry: I rolled hobby or obsession, and neither of my sims have been doing their hobby. For 2 weeks.

Epic fail.

I just got so caught up in playing that I forgot. And, it was such an easy goal too! Lol. I figure my choices are as follows:

a) Go pout for a few minutes and then continue playing my current legacy.
b) Pout for a few hours and then start a new legacy. Or...
c) Pout for a few days while my indecisiveness gets the best of me.

One the vampire aging thing, I think most people would be more interested in starting their new generation once the children become YA than carrying on with a vampire for a ridiculously long time. I know I'd get bored eventually. When I'm playing normally I usually move the child out as soon as it becomes YA and play it as my active household.

@Flameturtle, that's how I feel about it. The one legacy I can think of that did have a vampire heir, Becky's Sacha, used it in a very non-exploitative way, and she moved Sacha out when her human spouse died, leaving the human heir (who was born vampire and changed as a teen to human) to carry on.

Buckley, I think you should choose A. In the long scheme of things, the misc fun isn't a deal beaker (for me at least). I was late several times on getting Morand's tattoos, but just got myself caught up. So if your hobby is to make a new friend a week and you haven't done it for two weeks, then make two friends this week. =)

Cali, I have been thinking about what you said about the vampire thing, and I completely agree. I think your statement could also apply to the aging issue. If people want to exploit the aging rewards and stuff, who cares? It's their game, so whatever. But I do like your idea about amending the rules to specify when you can/can't use those rewards.

And haha. Extra obsessed.

I'm still pondering though... It makes me feel cheat-y. And Red, it wasn't a miscellaneous fun. It was the generation goal... So yeah. I definitely screwed up.

And on a separate note, my heir looks like a clone of my founder. I am not kidding. I took a picture of them in CAS dressed identically with the same hair, and I honestly couldn't tell them apart. It's creepy how identical they are!

My third gen, Storm Chance, was sick of her grandmother and father's obsession with ghosts. Not to mention being woken up every night as her dead grandparents floated through her room... so as soon as she turned young adult, she stole 20 bucks from her dad's wallet, stuffed her note pad in her pack along with her grandmother's guitar and seed box (both presents from her dad for her birthday) and bailed on the sleepy beach town. She moved to a farming town where ghosts were not a real issue.

Unfortunately she had to live in the park and mooch food from the sims she met there. Still she spent a long time working on her writing; she submitted one of her short stories and it got published! So she kept at it and before long was able to start building a shack on an abandoned lot just outside of town. When she was picking up some lumber one day she met a sweet guy who came home to help her put up the last wall for her bathroom. She asked him to stay for a while and even though dinner was just apples that she filched from her neighbor, he didn't mind.

That first shared meal was a long time ago. Storm married that guy and the fish he caught didn't add much to the budget but certainly kept them from starving in those early days. The house grew as the family did. First was Duncan who's daredevil traits caused problems because he would change all the vegetables in the fridge to flame fruit and occasionally set the house on fire.

Then the twins, Sandi and Randi. THEY couldn't have been more different. Sandi was a snobbish slob who hated her sister. The doctor said that her superiority was a front to cover up the inferiority that really felt after the fourth child, Bella was born. Sandi hated Randi because things seemed effortless for Randi. the reality is that she worked hard for her grades and spent time with her family to build the strained relationships that Sandi resented.

Sandi was sure that when Duncan graduated and moved out that she'd get the attention she felt like she deserved. I guess things didn't change enough for her because she became anorexic. She would only eat when I forced her to do so. Then one night she went to bed hungry and didn't get up to eat. She died in her sleep, of starvation. (seriously.. never saw a sim do that before. I didn't make it happen either)

It's been a traumatic time for everyone. Randi is devastated and her grades are slipping. She wakes up grumpy and is starting to resent her father for moping around the house and sobbing constantly. Bella took on the evil trait as she grew into a child. Perhaps it's related to watching her sister die in the room with her. We may never know the reason but it's not like Bella was all that put together anyway.

They say that Randi, the new heir apparent, looks like her world famous ghost hunting great-grandmother Tee Chance. Maybe that's why her Mother never liked her. Either way, she is seriously looking forward to getting away from her parents. They don't understand her.. never really have and they don't listen when she recommends echo friendly options. Now with her unbearable evil little sister and the gloom that shrouds the house... leaving is all she thinks about.

On the vampires thing, I really don't care. I'm quite happy for them to stay how they are. In fact, the only (new) thing I'm putting an outright ban on is Mobile Motive. We could perhaps put some Vamp. "guidelines" under Optional, but the problem is, we restrict vampires, we set a precedent. I'm also quite happy to lift the ambrosia ban, it was a "side effect" of an old rule that's been abandoned anyway.

As Melissa said, it's not like we are in competition, play the game however you want *shrug* Now lets get on with Simming shall we?

It's an incredible amount of fun for me following the stories in Riverblossom Hills. I was glad to see Sheila-May Yokel get some love! Somehow just seeing the characters played and enjoyed by other people makes me extremely happy.

Personally I enjoy having vampires in the story, especially since mine works a lot with lore and magic. Ella is particular is like the fountain of knowledge when it comes to magic and all that. I'd hate to have to lose vampires. I say just treat them like spares. Move them out shortly after the next gen takes over. (Which Is what I've been doing.)

I don't actually have a list, really. Let's see:

- Added more homeless Sims/Service Sims.
- Fixed some niggling issues with lots.
- Fixed the aging bug so that all Sims now age.
- Removed celebrity status.
- Fixed some typos.
- Added Generations content to some houses.

- Made Cog's entrance into a door, instead of annoying elevator.

- Forgot to add a fridge to Parsimony Vamp's lot.
- Forgot public marker in elevator shaft of Perseus Griffin's house. (Fix this if you download, it could cause lag).
- Forgot a door in public bathrooms of rest home, but they all have individual showers, so no biggie.

iirc, I changed the ID files, so the game should think it's a whole new world (Aladdin starts playing in his head). It *shouldn't* affect previous saves.

Yeah, I'm quite happy with that. It was a leftover side effect of "Death Eater" anyway. Originally you couldn't make it without rolling that. I don't think I ever saw anybody actually do it anyway.

I went with the fast as well for the sake of a story I was writing (and then switched to immortal)... it definitely lives up to its name. ;)

Mayhaps something happened between then and now. Although, I'm still having issues with sims using cameras... after they take a picture, they always get stuck and reset doesn't do anything. *shakes fist* Ah well.

To have your heir make and eat Ambroisa. The spouse could as well, but no one else. I know of two instances where it was used in a story.

It's been that long?

RC, the only way I have found to fix the camera glitch is to switch households. Just pause the game, switch to playing the neighbors for two seconds, then take over your legacy family again.

The glitch comes back every few generations for me.

We believe we know what it is...google c-diff, it's definitely not something I wish to describe to the squeamish. My mom works at an adult special needs home, so she deals with a lot of bodily fluids and stuff and that's how this is contracted. It's stupid though, this woman who has the original case of c-diff is probably going to die because she's already weak and yet they took her out of the hospital and back into the home, which is when my mom caught it. Another worker caught it too, a couple weeks ago, and she's still off work (without pay I might add) They need to be sued some badly!

My mom works at an adult special needs home, so she deals with a lot of bodily fluids and stuff and that's how this is contracted. It's stupid though, this woman who has the original case of c-diff is probably going to die because she's already weak and yet they took her out of the hospital and back into the home, which is when my mom caught it. Another worker caught it too, a couple weeks ago, and she's still off work (without pay I might add) They need to be sued some badly!

Oh wow. My boyfriend had that about two months ago. It was horrible.

BE, error 12s happen when you don't have enough RAM to save your game. One thing you can do to help is cut down on the SP elements you are using. The more active your town is, the more that has to be saved, so getting rid of the personalities modules might help. I had to abandon my first legacy because I was getting error 12s after trying to save after just 15 minutes of play. It made it unplayable.

I'm really pleased she already takes after her mother, but she and the doll will be a handful. It's gonna be fun having no choice in the traits department. That is one advantage of Famous Heir, before I started playing that rule every child was "groomed" to be the heir from birth, meaning they all turned out very similar traits wise. Now though, as I already know who the heir is going to be, if I do get to pick the traits, I just randomise them for all the spares.

Which reminds me, I keep getting $500 from Lily's (my heir's) father. Story progression ran a child support scenario, and as her father is wealthy it keeps putting $500 in my family funds. It's annoying cause every day I have to remove it. Maybe I should fool around with SP settings, but I've been too lazy.

I find it funny though because Morty (Lily's dad) keeps buying expensive new cars and missing child support. Then he gets thrown in jail. Hah, what a deadbeat.

Emma, try getting this: http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html and using "Advanced" mode to uninstall the base game. Delete all the leftover files and registry keys, then reinstall base game and use the super patch.

TLS did the same thing to me, wouldn't install, and broke my uninstaller, had to use Revo to clear it out then reinstall the base game.

I feel like i'm living the sim equivalent of Groundhog Day, if i have to go though the same two days of these characters one more time, i'm gonna kill a groundhog!... Yeah i have Saver, but i don't like saving when in vacation towns because World Adventures hasn't worked properly for me from day one, which why i rarely have any of my characters travel, which is annoying cause i really like the tomb exploration. Usually when i save in a vacation world the save goes all wonky and i end up having to go back and start from a previous one. Oh well, looks like my characters can't have a wedding in France after all :(

Here's Noam and Nero. Noam is already an adult, and Nero is still a teen, but ages can be modified pretty easily so I'll stop worrying about it. =)

I changed their hair to base game or ambitions, and took the custom pattern off of Noam's shirt. If anyone without Generations tries to install these sims I think it would just assign them different clothes.

I went and browsed, and I really like the looks of "Dear Prudence"! It is so so SO cute, and my family should be able to afford it soon if I make a few minor modifications. Are you sure you don't mind if I use it? (Warning: I tend to get random urges to renovate and redecorate. I love the way it looks right now, but eventually I might change something. If that bothers you, I will refrain from using it for my legacy. :) )

That house has a large bit of yard to the side, I like to build a detached garage with a second story studio/workspace there. Not that you have to do that too, lol, but that's an easy way to expand the functionality of the house.

Knowing about hair is one of this issues where I have major gayfail. I know nothing about hair, except that it's keratin, it's not living and can't repair itself, and so almost every shampoo and conditioner ad that claims anything beyond a detergent + slick coating is lies and propaganda.

The box says my hair color is Golden Chestnut. I don't think there's a color my hair hasn't been. Except that I've stayed away from greens and blues. My favorite was the Flamingo Pink.

Greens and blues are terrible... I dyed my hair a pretty blue and it faded pretty fast into a grey/green color which was hideous. Mohangany/burgundy was my favorite though... but that eventually faded into an awesome purple color :) and same, when my legacy gets far enough if anyone wants anyone feel free to ask :)

Ooh I am so jealous! I have always wanted to dye my hair pink (well, at least my tips). I work at a pretty upscale, conservative place right now (we aren't even allowed to wear dangle earrings or paint our finger nails *sigh*) so no flamingo pink for me. But someday, I will.


And OMG, I feel like a kid in a candy store! I want everyone! The only folks I've got in my family bin are some townies I modified from Barnacle Bay... Not the most attractive lot if you get my drift.

Actually, I went husband hunting earlier when my heir became a child, and I got lucky. Some elders adopted a couple of boys at the last minute, so I *may* have found my next spouse. His hair color was some awful shade of puke green though (like pond scum). No idea where he got it from as NONE of my sims have that color, but I changed it to black and blue. Much better now. :)

But OMG Emma, Thorne is such a hunk. If it isn't a problem I would love him for my bin, and maybe for my town later. I am trying to keep my population as natural as possible, but I also want to try to keep inbreeding down so I will probably be adding a few people down the road.

The pond scum hair is a genetic "mutation" that EA decided to add. It's horrid, Roxie had it, but I changed it to a regular ol' brown I had in my color bin.

Brooklyn Heights is such a beautiful town :) Even though it's pretty much Bridgeport, it's organized so much better... and if you live on the hill, your sims won't take hours to get to the grocery store!

But if you have mods I can coach you to make him a vampire through cheats (NRAAS -> Intermediate -> Occult -> Vampire -> ok). I currently have him with the "Family Oriented" trait so he should be spouting kids out left right and centre.

My vampires can't STOP having babies. I'm actually adressing my huge vamp population in a few generations.... its insane. Ella and Celeste both had twins! On the same day!

Okay, I got Thorne and a grown-up version of Skye (Thorne's son with Rosaline). Note, Skye only has two traits right now because I aged him from a tot to a grown-up in Edit In CAS. So, try your best to fix that, otherwise he's going to be a super grumpy and charismatic guy XD Or risk trying to make him a toddler again, I wouldn't try it though, I've had crashes from trying that!
I think Skye looks a little better then Thorne, though they're kind of similar. :P I gave him Rosaline's blue eyes (because he looks freaky having the exact same hair colour/eyes), gave him Ned's hairstyle (which looks really cool with the red hair), and made his chin smaller :) I forgot to take a picture though, but since I saved Y/A Skye to my game, I'll try and add a picture tomorrow. (though I make no promises.) If you don't want two male sims in your game that look similar, change Skye into a girl, he's named after a transgender friend of mine anyway :D I want to see what s/he looks like as a girl :P
Thorne requires Generations to look the way he is. I made Skye's hair and stuff base game, though he probably has clothes from all the games or something. Also, I didn't do anything to Skye's clothing, so he probably looks really lame :)
Unless you have all (or at least most) of the MTS sliders, don't try fixing them. It could morph them into creepy pudding things, who knows! 0_o
Also, Thorne and Skye are both grumpy, so if you put them in the town with a SP, they'll make enemies with EVERYONE. I didn't know being grumpy meant a sim suddenly become a b*****d, isn't that what the mean-spirited trait is for?

Adrian Starr has the family oriented trait so he'll probably start spitting out kids with whomever you pair him up with (heaven forbid you just let him loose in your poor town. He'll knock up every (fe)male sim he sees!)

Gabriel is still a teen but thats easy enough to change. AND HE IS BEAUTIFUL. I was soooo amazed at how he came out as a teen. <3 Just such an attractive boy. He's Neurotic, Eccentric, Neat and Absent Minded.

Daniel is Ella and Matthew's.... seventh child (And Abbie's older brother). He's got some cool genes (Purple hair AND eyes) so even though he was only a toddler in game I still uploaded him as YA. I think it worked.

And to jump on the hair bandwagon that started yesterday while i was MIA, my hair's purple, bright purple. Unfortunately not naturally, but i haven't had my natural black hair since i was about 14. Reds, blues, greens, neon pink was my favorite. Although out in the sun in summer time caused people to cringe away when my hair was seen, really, you needed sun glasses thanks to my hair glare lol.

Really, my last chapters haven't been very linear gameplay-wise. Scarlet's concert and Ryder and Denver's separation actually happened after the triplets' birthday party.



Am I the only one with hair coloring trauma? My hair started to darken when I was about twelve and my mom made me use a weird camomille "shampoo" that supposedly preserved the blond highlights... I only used it once but... well, you can guess the results. It took years for my hair to grow out of that unnatural, odd shade of gold. It's been my natural dark brown color ever since (plus a few whites here and there now).

Gah, I've been so busy the past couple days with RL, I haven't had the chance to do much but pop in here at odd hours when no one seems to be around. Anyhow, I've finally managed to finish the next chapter.

I also figured I'd follow the trend and upload some of my guy sims in case anyone wants them. They're all packaged without CC. And for anyone who's not familiar with the males from my legacy, here's their mini bios:

Alucard (or "Luc") is a very old vampire. He can be an arrogant bastard at times and he is absolutely ruthless if anyone messes with what he considers to be "his". Deep down though, he's not such a bad guy.

Adrian is a sweetheart. He's always wanted a big family of his own, but his career has kept him busy. He's as loyal and loving as they come.

Devon has always been a bit of a dreamer. He's a writer and often loses himself in the worlds he creates. He was turned into a vampire against his will but, with the help of his father, Alucard, he's managed to come to terms with it.

As Reya mentioned, you'll need to make Alucard and Devon vampires (if you so desire) because saving them makes them into regular sims. Also, I have a bunch of sliders in my game, so I don't recommend trying to adjust anything unless you have most of the sliders found on MTS. And I have the slider multiplier set on 5.

And though I'm a bit late with this, for the record, I'm a redhead although since it's such a weird shade I've been called anything from strawberry blonde to brunette.

I think the kids will be fine because I believe the only thing that happens without the sliders is that certain features will "snap" to a certain position if you try to adjust them. And sorry, by multiplier I meant I had the slider range multiplier set on 5 (it's an option in SP and AM). Basically, it just allows you have a greater range when using sliders. And that shouldn't affect any kids either.

I think that as long as you don't modify the child, they should be fine. I'm not 100% though, but I don't think Thorne and Skye have too many sliders on them anyway, they would be genetics from Nathalie's sliders anyway, and they didn't inherit too much from her. And really, the majority of her sliders were to make her have a heart shaped face :)

When I first introduced Jett into the story I didn't realize his name was something completely different in game. For some reason it was Jett in my head, so I renamed him in my game to compensate for the mistake. =) Now I don't even know what his name used to be, but unfortunately makes his parents look somewhat uncreative as he has a brother named Brett.

Emma, I certainly hope I don't have to go that route as some of my disks are in storage 2400 miles away...

When I downloaded the Generations patch I had to re-download all my disks as well. If you were there I'm sure you remember how long it took me to find all my disks and activation codes. (Those fucking codes... thank you internet!)

Heh, I don't have that problem. All my game disks are only ever used once, to rip an ISO onto my Hard Drive. That way, the disks don't get damaged, and in the case of HDD failure, I still have the originals.

lol, all of my computer game discs go on my bookshelves, so I always know I have them and where they are. Before I had bookshelves though... goodness. I'm also super anal about keeping my bookshelves organized. Everything is divided by type (classic novels, other novels, graphic novels, games..), and then those are all alphabetically ordered. So you can reroll that. It's also an optional rule, so you can choose an heir if you prefer.

Yes it is, it's refusing to lock in to the number of children rolled. Which is a PITA. I know how to fix it, it just means a major rewrite, and I really don't have the inclination to do it right now.

So, I packaged up a few of my Sims to share. I chose them for interesting genetics (At least, I think they are interesting).
I've stripped them of Store/CC content, they do have a variety of EP and possibly SP stuff on them. When I've replaced outfits that were store/CC, I didn't spend a lot of time choosing replacements. I asume anyone who is using them to add to their town (rather than just keeping them in the bin for SP to use to spawn immigrants, etc,) will dress them better.
Again, my slider multiple is set to 2 and I don't have custom sliders.
This zip contains Autumn Enmity, Darius Enmity, Corinne Enmity, Meadow Enmity and Dulce Enmity.
Some credit must go to kiwi tea, as some of these Sims are born in game and descended from his created Sims.
As always, feel free to use them in any you wish, changing anything about them for your own use.

Red: I'm afraid my PM would be no good to you, as it turns out my game was f***ed as well. I ended up having to uninstall my base game and reinstall it to get it to patch. I highly recommend using Revo to uninstall it though, so all the dud registry keys are cleaned out. (AFTER you've retrieved your codes of course).

Plus I've patched now, so can no longer supply the right files.

So I was playing a bit today and got a message saying Ella and Matthew were expecting again. Okay, whatever. Big deal.

They had twins. Again. Preston and Ida. Now their total is up to nine biological kids plus Johnathan. (Kori, Thomas, Zoe, Lily, Trinity, Abbie, Daniel, Preston, Ida). I think its about time I flip the "NO MORE PREGNANCIES" switch on them, eh? THEY'RE LIKE BUNNIES!

But yeah, family tree has been updated yet again and I believe is fully up to date. Celeste and Thomas are also getting the no more babies button. Cause they had another set of twins, two boys.

Anyway, I'll update tomorrow sometime. Louna's generation takes over the update after next.

Yeah, a LOT of people on here are ridiculously talented and have amazing legacies. It's awesome though, because they inspire me to improve my own writing/blogging. But no worries. I can't wait to read yours!

There's no set amount of chapters per generation, it's just whatever works for you.

My chapters continue until I'm done telling the story. They get posted when they're ready to present. I play and update when I have time.

There is no standardization between the challengers, though many of us have borrowed ideas from each other because they make sense or we like them or whatever. For example, I've noticed most of us started putting "new? start at chapter 1" on the side of the blog.

Ch. 65! Wedding Additions. Louna takes over next update so if I get enough written out tonight I might just update again this evening. Serenity's generation took WAY too long cause of my vacation. It just sucks that Louna's heir is her last child so we'll be on her generation for a while too. xD At least I know I'll have fun with her.

Probably won't update for a while. I've got two updates semi-ready and waiting in the wings, but want to work on that WA world XML mod I mentioned. I'm tweaking a few things. Giving the Sims a few friendships, that sort of the thing. I hate how they're a whole town and don't know a single person outside their household.

My sims are always very introverted. xD I guess thats just cause I use Story > Game so I only ever let them do their own stuff when I'm not directly using them in a plot. As you'll soon see in my later updates with Gabe. xD

Has anyone else realized through this challenge just how much of a control freak they really are? Or is it just me?

Flame: Don't worry, that happens to me, until yesterday i had 5 extra chapters of just pictures with no writing at all. But then, my chapters dont have too much writing anyway.
